Screwattack Shenanigans

So yesterday, I attended brentalfloss's FAQ session, after the opening ceremony with the Screwattack guys, and BlackNerd doing a Reggie Fils-Aime impression I thought was pretty funny.

In the brentalfloss line, there were guys in safari gear (brentalfloss asked them my own question of why safari gear: it was Team Fortesss 2 cosplay, apparently) behind us all the way from Norway! And here I am not 30 minutes from home attending for free, thanks to a friend who lives about three hours south of Dallas. They, like my friend, came prepared with plenty of crap to sign; I didn't feel like lugging that much crap around yesterday and/or chasing people down, since signing sessions are today anyway. Speaking of which, my schedule is ridiculous, but we'll get to that.

Anyway, there weren't a lot of people there, mostly cause Death Match or something had a panel next door, but he did perform part of a new Street Fighter song he's working on, and it was a good time seeing his Q&A; he got a bit cranky when they thought he could only do 30 minutes, but they (staff) corrected themselves and let him go the full hour.  He said he was being a bit prickish because of nerves, and I can totally relate. Whenever I've done stand up, I've been pretty nervous, and I can be a bit of an accidental asshole offstage because of it.

Then I took a nap, cause I had been awake since the night before at that point, and frankly did not know anyone until Spoony's Q&A later on anyway. There were a lot of Final Fantasy questions, and at the start of it, he threw his red balls at us. Might have him sign the one I got as well as my Cinema Snob DVD.

Technically, I would have been the last question, but I asked if he had any actual plans to do a "Bored Volturi" series, which he had joked about doing in one of his Twilight reviews. He said it would be beating a dead horse/old joke at that point, and I kind of agreed and said I just thought the character was funny, then just sort of apologetically gestured to let the guy behind me go, cause he probably had a better question, and luckily he did, cause I admit mine was a bit lame for a last question. Dude behind me was even cosplaying, ya gotta let him go! Don't know what he was though, he had a gas mask on. I'd like to think Gas O from Bust A Groove, but likely not.

Other than that, I played a Ouya game someone asked me to, and saw Adam Sessler walking around at a brisk pace. Cool to see these guys, but when they're walking like that, I imagine it's cause they have somewhere to be/they're not really in the mood to talk, so I'll bother him today at his signing.

As for the Ouya game, it was just a button masher where you chose out of four differently colored bubble things in four corners to fight or block or grab items. I'm pretty sure I won, even though I had no idea what the hell I was doing, despite the guy's instructions. They gave me a disc with, presumably, the game on it. To be honest, it wasn't much, I think it could easily just be an online Flash game, but more power to them for making their own game.

I also briefly sat in on a "So You Want to Work in the Games Industry" panel, but the advice was pretty similar to what I got as a Radio/TV student regarding portfolio and degree helping you, and I don't have a gaming portfolio, so I hopped in and out.

Today, I'm going to get brentalfloss, Spoony, and Sessler's autographs; if possible, AVGN's as well, but there's a bit of a conflict there, and the lines have been insane; Spoony's and Sessler's are already one right after the other, even if they are an hour apart.

I'm also going to more panels, but I can most likely see those online later, so my priority is meeting these people in person and getting signatures.

Anyway, talk to you guys later, got a full day of line waiting ahead of me. Sorry if I bored you to death, but I'm having fun, and really that's all that matters, screw you guys. Just kiddin'.

Be back to regular commenting and whatnot tonight or tomorrow.

that sounds like fun. I didn't know they did little cons like this, but I'm sort of out of it.

I guess this stuff is going on every where now, but I haven't been paying attention to see what kind of stuff like this goes on in Phoenix.

Hell, i had no idea what it was until my friend asked me to it. Apparently, it's been around a while, and they were able to get kickstarter money to do it again.

It was a damn good time though, the musical events capping off last night were incredible.

I wouldn't mind meeting Brentalfloss or buying some of his cds. I used to go to Screwattack all the time, but I don't really anymore. I think it's because Nathan Barnett went off to do his own thing. That dude was hilarious.

I got brentalfloss to sign his cd that i bought/Bits of Me, my Starry Knight Batman shirt, and got a picture with him and his gf/wife later (forget if they're married or not).

I really wish I had known who Nathan Barnett/Keith Apothecary was, I would have gotten him to sign something, because his show was awesome. He hurt his ankle jumping off a balcony before his set, but I thought the limping around was shtick, but the talk of the town was that he really did hurt himself. Brentalfloss was after him, and joked about him being like Steve Irwin: wrestle enough crocodiles, eventually some other animal will sting you when you do this shit. XD

Even though I could've gotten in for free, I didn't go to the ScrewAttack convention because my weekend is too full as it is.  Plus I looked at the schedule and didn't see anything I had to do there, plus it's over an hour away for me, etc.

Well, I had an awesome time, but I definitely understand where you're coming from. I got in free, had no other plans, and like a lot of the people who were there quite a bit, so I was kind of opposite of you.

Hope you get and autograph of Spoony or Brentalfloss.

Really wish I could go to those kinds of conventions, but because I live in Colombia, where something like that is unlikely, I can only dream.

Got theit autographs on a few things, including Spoony signing my Snob DVD as his character, and crossing out Snob's name in the title. XD Plus pics with both.

I hope you get to go to something like this one day. I've never been to a convention before, but definitely fun.

I tried to watch of Spoony's Q&A along with his panel but I just couldn't get into it. Was it funnier in person than on the internet? The only panel I really got into was his riff on FF Unlimited. (DON'T PLEASURE THE MUSHROOM MONSTER!)

It was a lot of Final Fantasy questions. And the FF Unlimited was funny, but the rest of that panel I was honestly too tired for.
