Stuff I've been Doing

Darn, last time I posted a blog was... May 14th. I really should be keeping up appearances.

Anyways, a lot has happened over the past month. One of these includes me graduating middle school! That's right, from here on out I'm oficially a high-schooler! I don't really think it will be that bad seeing as my sister will be a senior while I will be a freshman this coming school year, but nevertheless I'm still excited.

Another thing that I recently got was the Sonic Sega Genesis Collection. That has, like, 50 retro Genesis, Mega Drive, and arcade games on it. I haven't gotten to play much of it, but I was able to play a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which now holds the title of cutest video game title screen ever IMO.

Look at adorable Tails' fist!

Look at Tails' tiny little fist!

Because of this, I've also become a huge Tails fan hence the new profile pic and the Tails drawing I put on my Facebook page. Like seriously, my Ipod touch's background is now this:

Tails and the pie!

I've also got to play the first Streets of Rage a bit, and let me tell you, that game is the epitome of retro. I'm thinking of getting a few buddies over one day and just having a retro jamout where we sit and grind through Streets of Rage 1,2, and 3. I think now the Genesis Collection goes for about $20 and for that I believe it's a great deal. I would recommend it to anyone. Plus, this is one of the only games I can think of where the trophies are not just given out; you have to earn them, which speaks to the difficulty of the games I guess.

Streets of Rage

I've also been reading a bit. I began reading Farenheit 451 and I'm loving it. I'm about halfway through and I'm absolutely loving it. I believe I'll finish it by the end of this weekend. I've also began reading Gone with the Wind. This book is HUGE. I got through about a quarter of it when I just gave up. The main character is a whiny b*tch who complains about everything. it's just an extremely annoying book to get through. I gave it to a friend of mine who I'd thought would really like it. she is a really good friend of mine and she is leaving so I thought I'd give her something to remember this place by. Plus she really likes romantic stuff and it's a classic so I thought it would be good. I fell really bad that I'm just giving it away; it was a copy from the 1960's and it's still in great condition so I think it would be worth a lot on Ebay or something, but I guess I just gotta let go.

In the music department, our grade choir sang I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz for our graduation ceremony. I think that we performed really well but my dad's recording of it was not that good. I'll ask around if any of my friends has it recorded.

In the music listening department, I've gotten a few new albums on my Ipod. A couple of days ago, I asked my sister if she had any CD's that I could put onto my Ipod and she pointed to this one drawer in her room. It had albums from Michael Jackson, Beastie Boys, Lady Gaga, Diana King, TLC, Panic! at the Disco, and Hillary Duff ("Don't judge me!" my sister said!) She also had these two unused Itunes giftcards worth 40 dollars. She let me buy them from her for $30. I also bought the Journey Greatest Hits album from a thrift store for $3 which was worth every penny. With the Itunes gift cards, I bought the new Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories, one of The Black Keys newer albums, El Camino, which is great and has this southern rock sort of feel to it, and the new Justin Timberlake album, The 20/20 Experience. I'm not sure what to get with the last $11. Any suggestions? This month I hit the jackpot in terms of music.

I've also watched the entire nedw 4th season of Arrested Development on Netflix. This season was great, but it was a bit darker than what was expected. This season was a bit hit and miss with more hits than misses. I agree with the general consensus that the G.O.B. episodes standed out. I've also began watching Archer and Wilfre, both of which are great shows that are on FX vurrently. This isn't the ffirst time I've watched an FX show though, I've watched almost all of Louie. Why does FX have this thing where their shows are named after the main character? I guess it's not really a bad thing. Well, I guess it's only those three shows on FX that I actually watch, it's probably just a coincidence.

                                         Louie

So, That's about everything that's happened to me this past month. I was going to do a recap about E3, but just about everything that needs to have been said has already been said. I'm super excited for Kingdom Hearts 3, even though I know it's still a long way off. I'll guess mid 2015 at the earliest, but that's a bit of a stretch. I think I'll hold off on any future console purchases until I play all the really great games from this gen.

So, any plans for the summer? I'm not going anywhere, so it's going to be a long summer of reading and playing games!

Good luck with high school. I will graduate this year and so far, while in ocations difficult, I say that it ain't a bad experience.

I really like Sonic 2, but my favorites of the Sonic Genesis games are Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Counting the two because at first they were intended to be a single game and I don't remember the name, but there was a Genesis accesoty that connected the two games. Also, not only cute, but Tails is also a competent sidekick. I liked him in Sonic Colors.

A bit late and off topic, but its me, Alex from 1up. I finally created an acount, though you might had seen me here.

Haha, yeah, I recognized your profile picture, it's great to see you back. I haven't touched Sonic 3 or Sonic and Knuckles yet, I'll have to do so soon and I'm debating on whether to get Sonic Colors or Sonic Generations.

I haven't played Generation, but I own Colors. As far as I know, Generations has a few things similar to Colors with the boost and speed, so maybe you should start with that..... and also because Colors is fantastic.

My now 16 year old nephew, when introduced to Sonic's UGC, commented "dang, old games are hard!"

As for what I'm doing this summer: I work, because I am an adult and have no choice in the matter, lol.

Yeah, those old games ARE hard lol. As for the summer, I guess I have to enjoy my freedom while it lasts.

If you like Fahrenheit 451, you should read George Orwell's 1984. Similar topics and its one of my favorite book's ever. I can't believe Sonic 2 came out over 21 years ago. Wow, I'm old or I feel old. My plans for the summer are working which I'm about to do in 20 minutes from now.

Tails is WAY cooler than Sonic.  He's my favorite SEGA character, alongside Ulala and Ristar.

In terms of coolness, I'll have to say Sonic is cooler, but in terms of awesomeness, Tails is definetly the winner.

There's a difference between coolness and awesomeness? :)

As great author Lorraine Peterson said,

"Anybody can be cool-- but awesome takes practice."

I hope you enjoy high school, I hated it with a passion. The only thing I miss about it was I didnt have to have a job or pay bills during those years. It sucks being an adult some times, lol!

My summer will mostly consist of games, reading, working, and spending time with peeps and bf. I will also prolly be half way through being drven mad for the PS4 to released once summer is over. Hope you have a great summer!

I can't wait for school to start, it seems so exciting. Like I said before, I guess I gotta enjoy my freedom as a kid Tongue Out.

Hope high school treats you better than it did me. Sonic 2 might be my favorite of the bunch, 3 is close though. I wish they'd release the original trilogy for download on my Android, I've been tired of Sonic CD for quite some time now.

Fahrenheit 451 is great, forget if I read it in middle or high school. Once got in an argument with a girl about its ending, but she won me over to Ender's Game having a better ending. I doubly agree with that now, but overall I like them both.

And I'm not judging your sister, I like a lot of those poppy bands on the CD she let you borrow. lol

Is Sonic CD worth it on IOS? I have $11 in my account and I'm not sure wether to get it or not.  And as for the music, they were all fine, but the one that I was disturbed about her having was Hillary Duff. She says that she used to be a big fan of her. Go figure. Tongue Out

It was worth the $5 I paid to have a go-to for when I find myself in waiting rooms, but I find it too easy and not particularly interesting after about the third or fourth playthrough when I unlocked everything, and I've since beaten this thing one-hundred or so freaking times, but more cause I'm bored and broke than that it's that great. I think it's ok, and it has enough content, including the option to play as Tails and pick between Japanese and American soundtracks, but I'm not suggesting you go out of your way or anything.

As for Hillary Duff, yeah, that's one of the ones in that list I never listened to, but I at least know who that is, unlike with Diana King. I can't judge your sister though, I liked Avril Lavigne's singles when I was a kid.

Ah, high school. Enjoy your free time because life only gets busier from here (man, I sound old lol). I like Panic! at the Disco's most recent album, Vices and Virtues (or is it the other way around?). Good stuff!

As for Sonic CD (saw you mention it above), I've heard the iOS version is very good. They also completely overhauled the iOS version of Sonic 1 recently and vastly improved it. So if you'd rather have that in your pocket, it'd be a good choice too. If you just want something fun to pass the time, I'd suggest Super Hexagon, Scurvy Scallywags, or Polara. There are tons of great iOS games Smile

I didn't have any of the Sega systems growing up ( I was lucky just to have my NES & SNES) so this collection was a must have. I had the smaller collection they released for the PS2, but I let a freind barrow it and he lost it. He gave me his Midway anthology to replace it, not really a fair trade but its the thought right, lol. Farenheit 451 is a personal fave and I agree with Vice's Assistant if you like this you would probably enjoy 1984 too. As for music if you like retro metal -hardrock check out The Sword's Apocrypha. Funky eclectronic R&B Little Dragon is a little known band from Sweden that are great. Progressive expirimental pop you should check out Deerhoof.
