5 Things That Pleased Me At This Year's E3

1. Final Fantasy Versus 13 not becoming vaporware- However it is rebranded as Final Fantasy XV, which probably bother's most FF fans. Since it takes a action adventure approach instead of the usual turn based gameplay. Gameplay shown is a lot more cinematic and faster than the previous gameplay video from two years ago. Noctis now joines Nathan Drake and Lara Croft in whatever place they enter; its all going to come crashing down. Damn videogame characters, stop breaking shit. However the game is no longer an exclusive for the Playstation platform, it will a release on the Xbox One as well. On a minor (pfff minor), Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally anounced; I wonder if Tetsura Nomura will finally close out Sora's story. Hmmmmm.......

2. Gotta have a lot more Faith, the return of Mirror's Edge; but this time the game will be a prequel/reboot. After replaying the original game on the PS3, I'm hoping that they focus more time on the combat. It was decent but not really that enjoyable to tangle with enemies; especially when you fought those runner cops in the middle portion of the game. Being able to counter their attacks would have been a nice injection to the gameplay. One of the most interesting facts is that the game is going to be open world. I enjoy the open world stuff, just as long there is something to keep you interested in running around that space. As previous rumors suggest, Mirror's Edge 2 will not be Xbox One exclusive.

3. The Smashing of the Bros- Megaman, The Villager and the Wii Fit Training Lady are the first, newly announced characters for Super Smash Bros.for the WiiU and 3DS. Not to sure about the 3DS version because I just don't like holding my 3DS XL. Its too damn square and after playing Tekken on the thing, it really felt uncomfortable on the hands. The console version is what I'm mostly looking forward to; hopefully this time, Nintendo will learn from their mistakes and make online a better experience. Not once was I able to find a match, I just ended up gambling a few times on other players.

4. Infamous: Second Son- I just finally wrapped up on good guy playthrough on Infamous 2 and I'm excited that Second Son is launch title. This time you won't be playing as Cole but a new guy with smoke powers. Not sure how that's going to turn out since the first two games revolved around electric powers and how easy to recharge around the city. One of the reasons why I enjoy the Infamous series is the cool superhero/shooter/platforming. The morality systems wasn't the best, but the gameplay was pretty solid. However I didn't really like how Cole tried to cling towards objects; especially if you were in a hurry and suddenly he'll start pulling himself towards grabbable objects when you didn't reallly want to. They just gotta give Delsin Rowe more flexilibility in how he gets around.

5. Super Mario 3D World- I wasn't so sure to include this in my list, considering it's nowhere near a evolution from Super Mario Galaxy. However I was sold on the mulitplayer aspect of the game; plus Princess Peach is a playable character, which is something that my niece will love. Then I hear that the game will be a offline experience; which seems to upset a few people. Since I don't really play online because most people that you meet online tend to ruin any gaming experience; maybe the game missing an online mode isn't so bad.

Now on the subject of consoles, I've already placed a pre-order on the PS4. That is mostly because of their stance on DRM and the price point. Sure Microsoft reversed their stance on DRM as well but that's just it; they thought the consumer was dumb enough to fall for that. They would have fucked over anybody who doesn't have a stable internet connection. Who cares if you were able to share games through cloud saves and what not. Nothing matters if internet connection breaks for 48 hour period and all you have is $500 brick that you can use to watch television and spies on you. Sure Microsoft had better games exclusives like Titanfall (which lacks on single player mode so didn't make my list) and Dead Rising 3 (I love my zombie games). Sony was smart to reveal their plans at E3 although PSN Plus is now required for online play. However it does bug the hell out of me that both consoles don't support backwards compatibility. Considering how Microsoft just dumped all support for the original Xbox, it kind of makes me wonder how long they'll support the 360. Sony was good on support for the PS2 for a while until the took it out of the recent models. Not sure about the streaming games part of the PS4, it just seems so much to swallow for somebody that has 70 GB bandwidth cap. Anyways, that's all for my "what captures my interest from E3" blog; othergames that I'm too lazy to get into details are The Division, Dead Rising 3, Destiny, Batman: Arkham Origins (Blackgate), Super Mario Kart 8, Deus Ex: The Fall, Sonic the Lost World, Bayonetta 2, and how could I not forget Metal Gear Solid V.

Laters...

I think the current gen models will still receive support for the next 2-3 years. Their install base is too high and both companies know that. It'll happen eventually but not as quick as MS did with the first Xbox.

Yeah, I was surprised to see that Mirror's Edge was back on the map with a sequel. I enjoyed the first game and am looking forward to this one!

The other thing about titanfall is that it will be on the 360.  Why should I get a One if one of the only games that intrigues me is also on the 360.  I will agree with your 5 picks.

I can't say I disagree with anything here. Good blog.
