What I'm Playing!

Exclamation marks are fun. I think I'll use them in every title. It makes my blogs seem more exciting, even when they're about completely mundane shit. Mundane is a stupid word. It should have an 'i' in there somewhere. Anyway... These are the games I've been playing, and what I think of them.

Deadpool

If you don't know who Deadpool is, go and read a bunch of his comics, NOW! He is an utterly insane character who knows he's in a comic and thus deconstructs various tropes within it. Except now he's in a game. So he parodies the shit out of video game tropes. At one point he comments on there being a progression system, and asking why, since he's already a complete badass. The voices in his head then respond "It's a video game, you need this shit." Also, the tutorial is "Press this button. I forgot what it does, try it anyway. Oh it does that? You'll never use that, don't worry." Oh, and the plot of this game is Deadpool forces High Moon Studios to make a game about him. They send him the script, but it's too lng, so he doesn't read it and just scribbles on it crayon. Because Deadpool is fucking awesome. But then he doesn't know what the plot of the game is and he spends most of the game being confused by what the fuck is going on and it's hilarious.

Ok, so the writing is awesome. A little misogynistic, but then again it's Deadpool, he started out as a parody character of comic cliches, and this adaptation is pretty darn faithful. How is the gameplay? The combat system is pretty solid.  It's not amazing, but the combos are nice, and it feels meaty. Unfortunately, the level design is a bit meh. There are some awesome moments, like when Deadpool blows all of the games budget so it becomes an isometric 16 bit game like zelda, but otherwise it's fairly generic. Which is a shame, even if Deadpool rips it apart at every chance he gets. "Man, those textures are ugly." "Really? I have to fight these low level thugs again?" etc.

Ultimately, if you're a Deadpool fan, you'll love it. If you're a fan of comedy games, you might enjoy it. If you want to play this game for the action... maybe wait until it's on sale.

Magrunner: Dark Pulse

It's Portal with magnets and Cthulhu. The puzzles are amazing though, and a lot harder than Portal 2's ever were. Finishing some of these puzzles make me feel like a genious. I'm not that far into it, but it feels challenging already, and it doesn't hold your hand in the same way portal does. It's not as funny as Portal, but it's still worth trying!

Trials Evolution: Gold

I bought Joe Danger 2, but it just made me want to play this. This game is amazing, and I love it. This is like my 5th playthrough of HD, and first of the Evolution stuff, but I utterly love it. I WILL GOLD EVERY LEVEL!!!!

So, what have you guys been playing? What games are you looking forward to? I'm looking forward to Dark, the Vampire stealth game. Looks badass!

I like exclamation points too!  I'm intrigued by Magrunner, but I will probably wait for a Steam Sale!  IT looks pretty neat though!

It was on sale the other day. That's why I nabbed it. I'm sure it will be on sale soon in the summer sales on steam. If you're a puzzle fan, it's definitely worth it!

First time I heard about Deadpool was in Spider-man Shattered Dimensions and all the crazy stuff he does was all I needed to be a fan of him. He was pretty hilarious, he reminds me of Freakazoid which is why I like Deadpool. I wanna play it but don't think I wanna pay full price for it, I may wait for it to be on sale. Plus, High Moon Studios did a great job with Transformers War For Cybertron with the source material so no doubt they did Deadpool justice.

Yeah, wait for a sale. And yeah, he is a lot like a more adult Freakazoid... never thought of it like that!

Not a big Deadpool fan so doubt I'll get that. First time I was exposed to him was Marvel Ultimate Alliance where he was annoying as fuck and I never was able to get over that. I should replay Ultimate Alliance though, that was a really good game.

Oh I hated how he was portrayed in that game. Since he's my favourite marvel character, it made me fucking despise that game to no end.

I didn't know Deadpool was even out until I saw one of my friends over XBL playing it.  I hadn't seen a review on the game yet.  It looks like should enjoy it.

I'm playing through Mass Effect (360) again.  I was playing Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3).  I put in about 2hrs and I just couldn't do it anymore.  It's been years since I played any MGS games and I have no idea what's going on and MGS games kill me with the freaking long cut scenes very 10min of play.  I'll just have to play through the whole series again, so I'll wait for the legacy version of MGS to release on the PS3 and just start all over.  I'm also playing Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (DS).

Yeah, IGN gave it a 6 which I think is a touch undeserved. I'd give it a 7.5 or something.

Deadpool sounds like an awesome little distraction, maybe I will play it in a month or so when  it drops in price.  Still working my way through the NES classic, Faxanadu.

It's worth playing... worth paying 40 bucks for? I don't think so.

Deadpool sounds like when people make something to parody tropes in their medium, but end up repeating those tropes; calling attention to re-use of thugs and ugly textures doesn't make your re-use of thugs and ugly textures any better. But then, I do like Deadpool, and that is an awesome concept for his game, plus you make it sound like fun, even if it's generic, so if I ever get the chance, I'll definitely give it a shot.

It's one of those games that if you see on sale I'd say buy it immediately. It's the funniest game I've played this year.

I was excited about Deadpool yet have mixed feelings about Highmoon Studios games so I'll probably wait till I can get it through Gamefly. Back in Borderlands 2 and really enjoying the Tiny Tina DLC. Its everything the other three campaigns should have been. Georgeous and eleaborate new enviroments, completely new enemies, and tons of easter egg tributes to everything from D&D to DarkSouls.

High Moon Studios made Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. They kind of kick ass at adaptations.

Yeah, I got addicted to Borderlands 2 for a bit. Then I got really bored of it.

The Tranformers games they did were good, but they just felt too linear to me. Looking forward to seeing how they do the third game since it will obviously take place on earth.
