Heres a game you never really ever here about much these days and with GTA 5 to be released later this year everyone is geared toward it, wich is great since its one of my must get games, but when or will there be a Red Dead Redemption 2 i sure hope so cause lets face it who dont like going back to the gritty west. This was a very good idea and really was way better then anyone expected and a game i still play and although you can compare it to GTA its different and now its all but forgotten Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 open world western action adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on May 18th 2010. It is the spiritual successor to the 2004,s Red Dead Revolver,

The game most of it anyway starts in 1911 during the decline of the wild west frontier, and follows you the protagonist John Marston, a former outlaw whos wife and kid are taken hostage by the goverment in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring three of his former gang members to justice. The game has some very interesting moments and is really cool in the fact that you can hunt various wildlife and skin them to sell for money or to make items etc, the world is huge and if you can see it you can go there, you can also witness or take part in random events that pop up as your traversing the land like public hangings, ambushes, please for assistants, encounters with strangers, ride by shootings, and dangerous animal attacks, a good example you ride up on a group of outlaws stringing up a woman to hang you can ride on by and ignore it all together or you can save her by shooting the rope and then shooting the men stringing her up, but then theres consequences you could miss the rope and she gets hung anyway or you get shot dead by the men etc. Thus is an open world where you can do anything and like GTA you can go into a town and just start shooting but they will post a bounty on you and depending on how bad you are give star ratings for you to be captured.

The game also allows you to duel certain characters in a dead eye showdown to where you and the character goes into a gunfight which was popular for the time period, you can also participate in mini games like Texas holdem poker, liars dice and a slew of other mini games, theres stores in towns to sell and buy supplies and sell furs etc. You can find wanted posters in some towns and take a quest to hunt down an outlaw and if you bring them back alive your reward is bigger then bringing them back dead, and another thing is that this gane has some funny acheivements one i found funny was tieing a woman to the rail road tracks right before a train comes WTF is that!!!  Lol anyway Red Dead Redemption makes use of a morality system for your good and bad deeds which effects the way people see you in towns and the game in general.

Combat which are mainly gunfights are a major gameplay mechanic in RDR, the player can take cover, target a specific person or animal, blindfire and free aim, individual body parts can also be targeted. The other very good thing about RDR is the multiplayer with a maximum of 16 players per session, has both team based and free for all will begin with a mexican standoff. Survivors of the stand off will be able to move to any part of the battlefeild in preperation for respawning enemies. Theres a capture the flag mode, and an open world mode which is very good i might add.RDR spans two fictitious United States counties and a fictitious Mexican State: New Austin, West Elizabeth, and Neuevo Paraiso.

Graphics: are spectacular very bright especially the skys at night filled with stars moon then the sunsets are breath taking and the character animation to the enviroment are done very nice and remenant of the old west.

Sound: has some of the best voice acting in any game i have ever played and you can tell they Rockstar took there time and hired some very good actors, the soundtrack was mainly composed by Freinds of Dean Martin member Bill Elm and ex-member Woody Jackson along with additional contributions from various musicians. The sound effects from the horses galloping to the gunfire was done excellent.

Gameplay: is very intuitive and easy to learn from riding the horses to firing the gun to traversing the terrain was done great the auto targetting can get stubborn sometimes but for the most part works good, same with the camera sometimes it gets stuck or positioning is funny but again these are only minor issues.

So bottom line this is a fantastic game and if you have never experienced this masterpeice then your doing yourself a great injustice and need to get it, i personally consider this one of the best games ever made on the 360 and highly recommend it.

My Score:  4.5 out of 5 excellent

You are absolutely right. This is a true classic. I love it and the Undead Nightmare DLC too. Only game that comes close(but still pales in comparison) is Gun. Rockstar took the a genre and created something unique and legendary. The best western game ever created and I do hope they do another one someday.

People were skeptical about this game at release cause no one ever attempted an open world western and as good and as popular as it was im very surprised that no other developer has attempted another western actually i would like to see a western rpg now how cool would that be.

I have been on the fence about this one for a while. But for $20 new at Wallyworld may have to snatch up a copy.

Best Rockstar game by a mile. Among my favourite games. That said I have really high hopes for GTA V.

I am the Walrus, and I approve.

Really, I've never played it, but it actually does look more fun than the GTA games to me, even if it's mostly just a change of setting. THat's odd, cause I don't usually go for westerns, but I think they've grown on me, and good to know the voice acting sells it.

Was the 4.5/5 you gave this taking a cue from Snee's recent blog about perfect scores?

No actually i didnt even read the blog until you mentioned it, but you should know from all my reveiws very and i mean very few have ever got a 5/5 score i am still a beleiver that there is  no such thing as a perfect game but with that said theres a few thats close enough to warrant a 5/5 score.

Ok, that's what I thought, but I saw his blog right before I read yours so I was wondering if maybe there was a connection. But it makes sense that it's just a coincidence.

I also notice, I rudely forgot to say good review. Good review, sir! lol

Red Dead Redemption is an awesome game.  Surprisingly, I only played through it once. Cool

I enjoyed Red Dead Redemption more than GTA4.  It was a great free roam game and one of the only blue sky experiences I had on the 360.

My four year old nephew loves the game because you can just play it by tapping the A button to ride the horse aimlessly around the desert.  More games need this kind of simplicity.  My mom spent a bunch of money on Skylanders for him to play and he couldn't figure it out because the game is telling you to do stuff.  He hasn't touched it since x-mas.  It's ironic that games intended for kids aren't actually accessible to kids because of the handholding.

Agreed 100%! Red Dead Redemption is an instant-classic, and certainly a strong contender for 'Game of The Generation' for me. From the quests, to the massive, beautiful world, to great soundtrack, and a strong narrative that NEVER wrenches control away from the player, I seriously am dying for a sequel on next-gen systems!
