Just Went on a Date!

Hey guys, if you read my drunk blogs you'll know that I was talking to someone the other night who was really awesome, and we made out and had been texting ever since. She asked me out on Wednesday (My birthday, I turned 21) and I said yes. We went out for coffee, because we're classy bitches.

I think it went well overall. To start off with we were both like super shy and didn't know what to say, especially since we text a lot, so I had no idea what to say that I hadn't already. Once we got talking though it was good. She might be a bit too academic for me... she's taking five units of history, and is really into it. I've only taken ancient history in high school, and studies of religion here. History - not really my thing academically. I love reading up on it, but not for a job or whatever. She might get my ass into gear academically though, idk. She's not a gamer, but I'm an expert at conversion so who knows? It's not that she doesn't like games, or thinks they're bad or anything, it's just that she just doesn't have time for them. I don't know, maybe she'd be a better friend than anything, but I'll keep talking to her and see what happens

The worst part of the whole thing is my sense of humour. I kept wanting to make jokes but in the back of my head I'm like "That is so inappropriate. Seriously Blake, a Holocaust joke on a first date?" I made a few stabs at Christianity after I found out she was an Atheist and she laughed, so maybe. Idk, maybe I should have just went with it. I mean, she's going to find out about eventually right? I'm a fan of laying quirks out and seeing if people can take them. If they can, great, if not, meh. I told her straight up: I like games, and I like metal music. I don't murder people, and I don't live in my moms basement. She was fine with that though, she's not into either of those things, but she thinks both are fine and don't indicate any serious personality flaws apart from gaving awesome taste. She didn't say that last part, I did.

Finally, she is really nice, she's kind of cute, in a geeky way. She seems like an awesome person, and I'll see where things go from there!

Glad it went pretty well. If you date again in the future, definitely make a Holocaust joke. Chicks dig it.

And happy birthday! Not that it matters since you're Australian, but now you're of legal drinking age in the U.S. Which really just means if you were American, you could be louder about it, because virtually no one follows that law, but hey, happy belated birthday! lol

Means if I'm ever in America there's no excuse not to have a beer with ya!

 Thanks man I appreciate it!

Haha, well I'm sure you will find more things in common. She likes Arrested Development. Everyone likes Arrested Development!

A lot of people hate Arrested Development. I don't think she's watched it tbh lol.

She's really big on ancient and medieval history. She's taking linguistics and learning ancient languages as well. It's cool you're such a History buff. It's something I'd love to look more into if I got the chance, WWII I only know bits and pieces about, and I know that from high school and watching Band of Brothers lol.

Sounds like she already knows she likes you. I wouldn't worry about still trying to win her over. Just be you and make sure you guys have fun together, the rest will fall into place. Let her lead as far as the type of humor to bust out. Keep it PC at first but if you see her poking fun of more darker issues then go with it.

Got it. Keep the abortion jokes away until the fourth date :p

No, I'm pretty sure she likes me. She asked me out. Unfortunately we were both tired when we went there so it started really awkwardly. Ended a lot better though.  Thanks for the advice though!

She's a rare (in collectable terms hahaha) if she asked you out. That means to stick with her. I sure would, as she seems to be quite interesting.

And stop texting for f**ks sake, face to face communication is key. Texting, or simply using the phone is good for errands/emergencies/staying in touch because of long distance.

I can agree with that.

Unfortunately I have unlimited free texts and kind of text people until we run out of things to say. With other friends though, we still find things to talk about. And yeah sure, I could try that, but the only thing she really seems interested in is academic stuff so far, although it is her second week at college, so she might loosen up. She is really nice though.

Good luck.  Oddly enough, I once dated a girl who asked me out first, was interested in linguistics (got her masters in that), and had no interest in video games.  We're still together after almost 10 years, so I can honestly say there might be some potential!

Fair enough! That's some good incentive to try lol!

Crusader Kings II, talk about that... History and games combined..heaven! I find formal dates really awkward, I've only ever been on a few, they never led to anything other than uh... you know! Good for you man, atheists are the best, no pre-conceived ideas about celebacy etc... I jest! I'm not that non-PC!

Bahaha it's ok. Jokes are fine. It's not like she's going to read that anyway. They also have no problems with abortion or protection...

Glad this all gained momentum and became an actual date! She does seem really nice and it's really fun to be around someone who can appreciate intelligence & a sense of humor. It's a shame you two don't share many common interests but I don't think it's necessary for a relationship to work. I know a lot of people with different backgrounds & different hobbies who get along splendidly! Laughing

Yeah Idk. The problem is I haven't found ANYTHING outside of Academia she really likes. She watches movies, but wouldn't tell me which ones, which I'm guessing means she has shit taste lol. Oh well. I'll see where thigns go and if it doesn't work out she'd make a good friend.

I really don't know what to say here, but good luck man! I hope she can handle your dark sense of humor lol.

If not the relationship would suck more than a toothless hooker.

 Thanks though Aaron!

Nice to see everything went fine with her. Maybe if the relationship doesn't develop that much, you can still be friends.

Blake Turner Staff Writer

07/13/2013 at 03:39 AM

Exactly! I'd be happy with that. Adding to my steady list of friends. Dear god, I've friend zoned 3 people in two years. I don't think I deserve to have a penis!

If you run out of stuff to talk about, boot up one of the Assassin's Creed games and let her have fun ripping the inaccuracies apart, lol.

Cool, man, good luck. Getting to know people like that is always exciting.

BTW, in that second to last paragraph for just a moment I thought you said she was okay with murder and living in your mom's basement, even though she doesn't do those things lol. I soon realized my error but those would have been some serious red flags Tongue Out
