New Interface Additions

The next generation of systems is adding some nice features in how you operate it and move around within its menu. I am happy the PS4 is making a change with a new menu called Playstation Dynamic Menu and Microsoft’s is supposedly built with advertising in mind. Not something I would boast about. I do like what Sony and Microsoft are doing with their new interfaces which I find important how complex gaming systems have become. As for what I like, its new additions like recording footage to show, the ability for others to watch as you play and able to help others or be helped by giving your game to someone else through that one hard segment.

PS4 Interface

I like that I will be able to suspend my game which is similar to what you can do with the Vita and speaking about the Vita I find that it offers a lot of what consoles are doing. Xbox One uses a feature called snap mode that is actually really similar to Vita’s menu system but takes it a bit farther by allowing all those windows to stay functional without having to close what you are doing within certain windows. It is something that the PS4 can seem to do at least to some extent but Sony hasn’t elaborated much on its interface.

XB1 Interface

5 THINGS I WANT ON THE PSN AND XBL

With all the new additions, there is still many more that can be added. I had enjoyed for example the leaderboards on XBL. It would be awesome to see that continue on Xbox One and added on the PSN but also expand the leaderboards? With that I mean a leaderboard that keeps tap of who is overall leading across the board in games. That would add another layer on top of the scoreboard to keep tabs on.

Personally, I am big on putting myself out there. I love being a gamer and love to share what I have and give my opinion. It would be cool if they have expanded bios but not just that but integrate a blog page for people to update via PC that can be tapped into on our consoles.

When it comes to sharing, it’s great to boast about what we done in what games via achievements and trophies but I like to be able to say I beat such and such game. It would be nice if there was something that acknowledged that the game has been beaten. In some games you can get can 20% of the achievements and trophies and beat the game. It doesn’t seem like it though considering the small count that you racked up.

We are getting our friends list count up to 1000 on both systems. That is a lot so it would be nice if we could categorize our friends. For example but all our friends we have on Pixlbit in one group, family in another group, or school friends in one group and so on that way it’s easier to keep tabs on them. If you have a clan, well there is another. I don’t know about you but I won’t remember 1000 people and I would be closer with them if I can recall where they came from.

Another aspect is Calendar Map so you can organize what you plan on doing with fellow gamers. It can be used to input your work time or simply your gaming hours, what you will be playing and when. This will make it easier to plan times to game with friends. They see when you want to play and you can input you want to play such and such game on what day. It will make it nice to organize events and make it easier for Microsoft, Sony, or third parties to sponsor events of their own.

Those are my top requests I would like to be added now or in an update down the road. There is a lot more they could do beyond what they have already done. Sony now has the obvious inclusion of cross game chat now, Microsoft Challenges to achievements, and I might be in the minority but I like the ability to thumbs up you people. I like staying connected to gamers like this because I don’t have them around be here so having away online to have the ability to stay a little bit closer to guys and gals is a nice touch.

Is there anything you would like to see added to XB1 and PS4’s interface? There is a lot to learn about such as the Avatars with XBL and PSN’s Home. There are questions to be still answered, do you also have some?

I'd like to be able to share videos to wherever I want, like if I want to post a video onto Pixlbit that would be awesome.  I don't know yet how this is going to work, but posting screen shots and videos of games really interests me, I just don't know how it's going to work.

It will be cool to see how it works and the differences between how Sony and Microsoft accomplish it.

Nice article. I hadn't put too much thought into the interface of these systems, other than I don't like the current ones. I'm a little tired of the cross-media bar on PS. I don't like the button avatars on PSVITA too much either. Actually, I kind of really like the Steam interface right now. It has alot of the features you mentioned, I would know because I just created a group for us, and they've added tradable playing cards as well. I really like the Wii gamepad interface too as well as 3DS.

PS4 interface looks really slick. I hope they don't clutter it up with ads like MS now or on Xbone. The blogging idea is interesting. Actually, I thought it would be really cool if they can remake playstation home, but actually make it work this time. I have to think about it some.

Thanks. Wii U's interface is nice and they came up with some cool ideas but not pratical for gaming such as looking around on essentially like google map. I wish they would do more integral things to the gaming community. Posting drawings is a cool thing and its nice to have those clubs. I would say that is pretty cool. The layout is very similiar to the Wii's interface. I think its cool to be able to browse on netflix.

I really like the ideas of categorizing friends and acknowledging whether games are beaten. I'm most interested on recording gameplay personally. I would love if this could give me an easy way to get gameplay clips for video reviews on YouTube, always wanted to do those.

Matt Snee wants it, you want, I would like to have it, and I am sure many others would like it too. I don't see why they wouldn't have considered that at least. It would help promote games and it would work hand and hand with a blog page if they could have one integrated on a website where you can go to for your videos and then edit them and such like on Bungie net for Halo games.

I just want to be able to play games.  That's all.  Finding new games on the download places should be easy to find, too.

I'm really hoping that the PS4 UI is simplified. The PS3 UI is difficult to navigate if you're not familiar with it, and now that I'm more familiar with it I still have a hard time locating what I'm looking for at times in the menus, lol

Most everything I want is always up front since I only buy the latest. If I don't get it within the first week, I likely won't buy it later. I am sure though its different since the whole system looks different and now that it will understand your interests and what you like that maybe things will be more up front without doing much looking. Who knows. We will see.
