Denpa Men: They Came By Wave!

Platform: Nintendo 3DS

Price: (around) $10

 (repost from 1up.com)

I feel a faint Heartbeat in this game. (heh) With their roots and my newfound love of Genius Sonority (of Dragon Quest/Pokemon fame) I am thrilled to be spending an afternoon spinning around the town netting myself a few good men.

What I originally brushed off as an overstated game mechanic, the claim of "Denpa Men live in radio waves." is surprisingly true. They are found via available Wi-Fi networks. This means that multiple players hunting in the same area will find the same Denpa Men. This consistancy is welcome, especially since you may need to catch the same Denpa Man again if he happens to die in a dungeon (and is not revived before you leave).

I've become surprisingly attached to these lil' guys. Not only do they have different colors/attributes/strengths, they have personalities. ("When I shout, the Earth moves!" is my favorite declaration so far.) They will be happy when healed, they will scoff at you or sob when you take their equippable outfits off and it's this attention to detail that really gives this game oodles of charm.

I've been told that there's about 15 hours of gameplay. Not too bad for $10. For a quirky dungeon crawler, I think Denpa Men - They Came By Wave is worth every penny.

I'll probably make another post about this when I get further in the game and really get a bit of time to digest the game mechanics. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the game and brush off the odd looks from the masses watching me pirouette to catch the perfect Man. ;)

I liked the demo, but it was just too odd for me to consider purchasing. Maybe I should retry this game again. The augmented reality portion was kind of weird. I hated losing the Dempa men in dungeons. Quirky title.

Looks like an interesting game but unfortunately I don't have a 3DS and I don't see myself getting one any time soon.  I'm glad you're enjoying it though.

This game looks nuts.  They cry when you change their outfits?  Good to see the 3DS downloadables are getting love these days.

It's honestly worth the price of download and then some! Playing a bit further into it, I'm still really happy- I thought the game was shorter than it was, but then more islands unlocked! Still fighting to see the end. P4Golden and Ragnarok/Ecolibrium are kind of eating all my time atm. x)

I have been on the fence on the 3DS. Have a hard time justifying buying when my old DS is still alive. If the Dragon Quest 7 remake comes stateside I won't have any choice though, it as good as bought. This game sounds interesting though. I get the feeling that the hunting part works like that face ball game. If so that is realy cool.

It is like Face Raiders! In Denpa you shoot nets at them. I always found it hilarious that when hunting in a public place, you literally are spinning in circles or creeping up to strangers that they "land on". Ahh, the odd looks are priceless. x)

Sadly, Denpa men are tot incredible and manly for me to compete with them. I hand over my red and pink PJs to Denpa # 14, my worthy successor!

May have to try it out. I like quirky! Nothing wrong with that at all. Quirky can sometimes mean true fun and innovation. Face Raiders was cool,so why not?
