It’s been a while huh? Hey don’t cry, I’m here now, wipe away those tears, I’m back and I’m not going away. So real life once again gets in the way of blogging time, it’s tough to find the time, or more likely, the motivation to write sometimes. I’m juggling a lot of projects at the moment; volunteering at the radio station, working on a low budget film and a lot of job interviews. It all adds up to not a lot of time for gaming. Luckily it’s been a while since I last posted anything meaty or worthwhile so I can give a quick update on the games that I have been playing recently. And begin...

State of Decay – This is a weird one. It’s possibly the best zombie game I’ve ever played and yet it has so much wrong with it. You could quite easily slap the franchise ‘The Walking Dead’ on to this game and it would be the most faithful game to the series. It has a lot of technical issues that no game should have and the repetition of certain tasks does infuriate me at times... but there’s something about this game, technically a mess but still it has something that keeps me hooked. If you’re even just slightly interested I’d pick it up.

The Witcher 2 – This game is amazing, the fact it’s currently on STEAM for £3 is an absolute steal. I got it for 360 for £12, which I thought was a pretty good deal. I’ve already completed it twice. Now playing it through a third time on DARK difficulty, which almost adds a dark souls like appeal to the game and arguably makes it better, in my humble opinion. There’s a lot to love the graphics, story, combat system. It’s nailed all the ingredients. I was slightly worried about its slightly linear approach to world and story but that was unfounded, each area and segment of the game is vast and deep. <Insert vagina joke here> I got so soaked up in the story and world of the Witcher, that I bought ‘The Last Wish’. I’ve only read the first short story so far but it’s really engrossing and pretty fucked up, for lack of a better word. All in all this game has got me so hyped for The Witcher 3, which was probably my favourite game from E3.

Red Dead Redemption – The announcement of GTAV and that really REALLY awesome game play trailer has me ploughing through Rockstar’s catalogue. Red Dead is easily my favourite of the bunch. Quite possibly a perfect game, dare I say it (come at me internet). It’s just the perfect blend of game play, story and atmosphere. At the end of it, isn’t that the triple threat we judge most of our games on? I went through Undead Nightmare for the first time, whilst really fun, it wasn’t really a scratch on the main game in terms of quality content but still this has gotten me really excited for Rockstar’s next instalment, GTAV. I love bank heists!

Deadly Premonition – Look I bought this knowing its cult status and its misgivings. I really wanted to like it but I just can’t get into it. IT has its charm, sure! But the game play, mechanics and graphics are just too bad. I really want a twin peaks game and so far neither Alan Wake nor Deadly Premonition has delivered on my dream. The dream lives on...barely!

Borderlands 2 – I did a review on this game a while back on 1up but since all the DLC has come out and new character classes etc, I feel it deserves a revisit (TBC). The game is incredible, my favourite from 2012, in fact I’m surprised more people weren’t going on about it when game of the year nominees were being bandied about. The fact I’m still playing this game consistently for about the last ten months, more so than any other game, shows how highly I rate this game.

Other ramblings

Noticed a new Pixlbit group on Steam and followed by a flurry of friend requests, which was very much welcomed. Just to warn you guys I don’t PC game a lot, mainly because my laptop just can’t handle most current gen games. That said I have finally managed to get hold of DOTA2 and have been doing the training scenarios for that. I really disliked LOL so it’s surprising that I’m really digging the mechanics for this game. Time permitting; I’d be really interested in setting up a few play sessions of DOTA with you guys, thoughts?

Picked up Hotline Miami for £1.74, in the summer sale! Really fun game, digging it so far!

I've probably missed some stuff out, that I wanted to say and games I wanted to talk about but that can wait. Thanks for reading... add me on the following:

I bought Deadly Premonition whenever it first came out since it was so cheap and I heard a lot of good things about it. However; much like you, I just can't get into it for some reason.

I may force myself through it one weekend but then I could just spend my time playing games I enjoy...

i feel the same way about DayZ -- it's a crappy, effed up mod, but it's the best zombie game I've ever played, and I can't wait for the full release.

Red Dead is a damn fine game.  I'm working on Witcher 1 now, will eventually make it to Witcher 2.

I'd be interested in trying out DayZ if it weren't for the lack of a decent graphics card in my laptop, all the other specs are pretty decent! I bought the Witcher also, yet to play it, will wait till I upgrade my machine. You'll love Witcher 2 though, easily one of the best RPG's I've ever played.

What type laptop are you working with? Hotline Miami looks fun to me, but I'm just not sure how much of anything really my old XP-running Dell D620 can handle. Obviously nothing next-gen is going to happen, but maybe I can reactivate Steam and get a couple indies before this thing finally craps out.

pentium dual core 2.3 ghz, 4 gb RAM, Windows 7 64 bit, intel integrated graphics. It can handle a lot of my video editing, if i decrease the quality of playback during edit but it doesn't do games very well.
