What I Am Playing...And Watching!

Hello Pixlbit! I thought I’d have a quick check-in on what games I have been playing.

Because of the PSN’s ongoing summer sale, I’ve been buying more than I would normally would because everything is digital, and I’m more of a physical copy guy, but the prices are really good on the stuff I want so I can’t complain.

Fight Night: I’ve played through the Main Story Mode where you lead a boxer through your typical boxing story. It would make an interesting Made for TV movie, I do like having checkpoints in the last fight, because that guy was tough. I also started the creat a fighter, to lead him to the top mode (I have no idea what the name is). I might restart it because I want to start at the lowest weight class and just move up when the option is presented to me. I think I bought this game for $5.

Alice: Another game I’ve been kind of interested in, and after a half hour, it’s nothing like I thought it would be. I thought the beginning was really slow, the art style was interesting, and the actual subject was an interesting take. I also bought some random add-on, for a couple of bucks but I have yet to try it. I think this game was $7, $9 with the random download.

SW Force Unleashed II: I haven’t tried this yet. I’m holding off on playing it until I actually get around to playing the original on the console (I beat the PSP version, and I like it).

I’m probably going to buy another PSN card because tomorrow there should be more games I find interesting/cheap enough to pickup. It’d be nice if PSN threw some love at the Vita.

So last Friday I went on a little trip around the usual spots to check out what things made the clearance bins.

The top four games were found at K-Mart. Now this K-Mart hasn’t changed much since the mid-80s when it opened. It still smells the same, and the only difference is that the little snack bar is gone. Their sales are randoms (I miss the Blue Light savings and the cart with the actual blue light)

Top Spin 4: I need to get used to the way of hitting again because the button pushes are metered, and if you hold on too long, your shot goes wide. This is different from the EA Tennis game I played last, so I have to get used to this again…or change it in settings.

I played two Exhibition matches and this feature cost me a set. I jump into playing this probably at night before bed. I think this game was $10.

TDU 2: The developers need to figure out what the vision for this game is. Is it a sim? Is it arcade? It tries to be both, and doesn’t do either very well. The car feels like the entire racing surface is ice, with controls that are way too sensitive. I had trouble with the final license mission, until I realized that if you drive like you normally would in real life, you pass with ease. The odd thing is that you get rewarded for driving like it’s an arcade, and when in actual races, driving like a mad man gets you nothing but wins. I do like the open world and seeing other actual drivers roaming around. I beta tested the original and had a lot of fun. The one thing I didn’t care for is one overzealous player who wanted to race me. I said no, and he proceeded to follow me and try to race me still. I wish this game was like GTA where you can pull people out of their cars, and take them. Anther $10 game.

Yakuza 3 and Tiger I haven’t opened yet, but I will probably do so later on this week.

Heavenly Sword: I found it at GameStop, and to my surprise it was complete, and the former owner took care of it. It looked a hell of a lot better than the copy I almost bought a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t played it yet either, but I’ll give it a run later on.

While at the GameStop I almost bought this

Yeah I know it’s terrible, but I’m still in my Game of Thrones mode, and I figured I would play it for a little while until the show starts back up.

TV Stuff

The Newsroom is back. This is one of my favorite shows (HBO is killing it with original content) Love this show, and I know actual newsrooms aren’t as crazy but it’s fun to watch. The one thing I’m blah on is the little newsroom love story. It’s a shameless ripoff of Jim & Pam on the Office. If it wasn’t there, it wouldn’t be a big loss.

The Challenge: Rivals II is back. Bill Simmons calls it America’s Fifth Professional Sport, and its fun to watch. I’m rooting for CT/Wes because CT is nuts, and for the Women’s teams, Cooke and her mystery partner (it’s the worst kept secret who her partner is, but I won’t spoil it).

Well that’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I tried a little bit of it when it first came out, and quickly called it Lady Kratos. I'm starting to go into Hoard mode with the PS4 coming. I know the games I want will soon be hard to find so I'm starting to pick them up.

that's a pretty good haul of games.  Never played most of them.  Top Spin interests me.  I heard HEavenly Sword is pretty good too.  Never played Alice.

Thanks. Top Spin is fun, I just have to get back in the swing of things *rimshot

I haven't fully jumped into Alice, but it's interesting. I think if you can find it cheap, it's worth a try

You're getting quite the collection this week man!

I love the Fight Night series as well, with Round 2 being my all-time favorite of them all. Fight Night Champion was fun though, I enjoyed it quite a bit for what it was worth!

Thanks!

Loved Fight Night Rd2. I got into the series with the old Knockout Kings on the Original Playstation. They're fun games. Out of the series I played the PSP Rd 3 the most. I don't know how many fighters I made, but that was my go-to game on the PSP for a long time.

I've been meaning to buy that fight night game and GoT game, but always leave them behind. As a Star Wars fan, I've never played the Force Unleashed games, shame on me!

The Challenge Rivals I have to admit I do watch and I've watched all of them in the past. CT/Wes I expect will implode at one point. The games are so much fun to watch!

I think as a SW fan, you have to give Force Unleashed a try. The story is interesting add-on to the universe.

Love those Challenge shows! It's always the same compete, drink, hook-up, drama, rinse and repeat. I think it would have been an epic team if they had CT and Bananas as a team, but they'd probably kill each other in the first episode.

I do like the Star Killer character actually. Sam Witwer, the actor who plays him is such a cool guy and a big geek himself. I watch Being Human on Syfy, which he happens to be on, and I'm always like, "Hey it's the starkiller tv show!"

Challenge II is such dumb fun. Some of the girls get mean and nasty as much as the guys sometimes. I like how CT is causing drama by charming the girls and causing jealosy already.

I did not know the voice actor was the guy from Being Human. Interesting.

Challenge is dumb fun. I enjoyed last night's episode, and this is one of the few franchises on MTV that I am willing to watch (actually it's probably the only franchise)

Good job with the clearance bins. I finished Yakuza 3 last year, it's enjoyable

Thanks! Good to hear about Yakuza 3. I've played a some of the original, and 4, and if it's like that, I'll enjoy them

I'd argue real newsrooms can get pretty hectic, it's just that in those times it's probably more along the lines of the beginning of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead (not because of zombies, just the general tense atmosphere in the control room), and people are way too mad to let a full-on Sorkin-written monologue go on unchecked by anyone in the room. At least, my experiences as a Radio/Television undergrad would have suggested that; not an all the time thing, but hot heads are hot heads.

Still, as unrealistic as it is compared to the way people actually talk, I loved watching the first episode on Youtube a while back; wish I had HBO, as I'm too paranoid to download anything. I've heard Game of Thrones is awesome as well, for different reasons, obviously.

That's pretty cool to hear from someone who's experience a newsroom, and you probably have some interesting stories. It's interesting to see how the stories develop and what goes into putting on the news, and the politics behind it. The Newsroom cheats a bit, in that episodes will usually revolve around one big real world news event per episode...I do love those Sorkin monologue's. There was a good one in the latest episode.

You gotta get your hands on the DVDs of Newsroom and Game of Thrones. Both are REALLY good shows.

Well, a college studio control room and like one trip to a news room in I think Lufkin, TX that was probably sanitized for students. But I imagine real newsrooms would have MORE tension, not less, so that's where I'm getting this notion from ...

I do love a good Sorkin monologue as well.

And I know about the HBO thing, but DVDs and such aren't really happening, as I'm planning on going for a Master's, and don't exactly have any winning lottery tickets lying around. lol

Nice, going for a Masters, nothing but props from me. You shouldn't be watching these shows anyways, you're gonna be busy with school Laughing.  I hear ya with the winning lottery ticket. If it wasn't for the HOA here (cable and internet is included) there would be no way I'd pay for HBO by iteself

Great pick ups. Alice was a really cool game. A shame more people didn't play it.

Thanks, so far its not a bad game, and at that price, it's a shame more folks to give it a go.

The Newsroom is a great show. Hard to go wrong with an awesome cast like that one. Hits it out of the park most episodes. You found some great PS3 games. I think we are entering the "sweet spot" now as the new consoles are coming.

Yup, it's a great show. I do like how they can weave real news into the storylines, and watch it develop.

I agree about the sweet spot. When the PS2 was hitting it's stride, I bought a bunch of PS1 games, many were super cheap, and I see it starting up with the PS3. I'm going to pick up my "Must Haves" before they become hard to find in an acceptible condition.
