Death Is Fun - More Progress In Dark Souls

Last night, Dark Souls once again made me its bitch....and all by my own hand, as has come to be the norm in this punishing title.

After killing the Taurus Demon a couple days ago, I picked the controller back up last night and played for about an hour, which is about all my son would allow me...he really, really loves Bob The Builder.  Who am I to deny him?  Anyhow, I'd already gotten the drake sword on the same night I killed the Taurus Demon, Sunday I believe.  I shot a few arrows at the big red dragon perched atop the entrance to the Undead Parish, drawing him to my location...and promptly high-tailed it across the bridge and to the bonfire located right inside the Parish.  After levelling up a bit I ventured to the large gear/lever inside the Parish and opened the door.  Down the corridor was a huge boar with armor...I snaked his sorry ass with my Soul Arrows, ducking into the tiny alcove available for cover.  I nearly forgot to mention - I'd also saved some souls and made my way to the blacksmith down below Firelink Shrine, and purchased another Soul Arrow spell to fill up one of my attunement slots.  Now able to fire 60 Soul Arrows without recharging, I feel like I can do some damage.

Yeah, right.

After killing that big boar, I duck into the alcove again to discover a ladder leading down and a spiral staircase leading up.  I chose up.  Bad choice.

Atop the staircase was a black knight, the second I've encountered thus far in the game.  As soon as he sees me he gives chase, stopping only to swing that huge black blade he wields.  I ran back out to the bridge, only to find myself confonted by a cadre of skeletons with crossbows and swords.  Add another death to the tally, as running into a group of enemies in this game equals a YOU DIED screen.

I attempted to best the black knight a few more times, meeting my death each time.  One time I even lead him down the stairs and then jumped down to the area at the end of the ladder I'd mentioned previously, to be greeted by 3 rats who poisoned me.  Oh yeah- the knight followed me down to this area as well, finishing me off with a quick sweeping swing of his blade.

Delicious punishment it was, and I turned the game off too quickly for my taste; but hey, gotta keep the toddler happy!

I'm liking writing about this game, so I think I'll turn the Death Is Fun title into a blog about my exploits in Dark Souls.  Who knows - maybe I'll make this one my first platinum trophy!!!!

Oh man, is that what I'm in store for, lots of Bob the Builder? My son is turning 1 next week and right now we've got Qubo on infinite loop. Not that the TV is always on, it rarely is, but when it is, it's Qubo. Alfred the Hedgehog has permeated my brain, as has Jane and the Dragon. Nothing is as heinously bad as Pearlie or Willa's Wild Life though. I digress...

In any event, I kind of want to check out Dark Souls, but I just hated Demon's Souls so much, I don't see it happening. Skyrim will probably come first - if I can ever find the time. Doubtful these days.

I'll be following along with this blog though as I love hearing about this game despite my general lack of desire to really play it!

the first time I played this game could only be described as demoralizing. Now, grinding is the name of the game...overpreparation seems to be working for me.

I must admit, these blogs are enticing me to get to this game earlier than I think I otherwise would. Still need to get through Mass Effect 2 though...too many good games.

Each and every enemy you fell in this game produces satisfaction. Never played a game that requires such apt attention and methodical approach before. Seems like it's better this second time around.

I feel like I need to pick this game up when I get the chance. Though my catalog is full (read: wallet is empty) from me going back and playing great games that I missed on the Wii. I've had my fill of Skyrim and Gears and Uncharted and Call of Duty ect.... I've been trying some of the sleeper hits that came out for the Wii. No More Heroes was surprisingly enjoyable and Little Kings Story is making me reminisce about Pikmin, with its cuddly presentation and deceptively dark-ish story. Of course Skyward Sword is also taking up a good chunk of my sleeping time.

I'll be looking forward to your progress blogs for Dark Souls.
