Question: What game would you use to convert a non gamer?

For me, it would probably be Mass Effect or The Walking Dead. And Skyrim. And Animal Crossing.  Any thoughts?

Tough one, man. Mass Effect was a good choice on your part though. It's complex enough to make a person think but easy enough to understand so as not to frustrate them. We also like to feel as if our choices in a game matter & Mass Effect is good for that.

For me I'd choose Persona 4 or Y's 7. Y's 7 is good old fashioned action rpg fun in a similar vein as secret of mana and Persona 4 has a good story, interesting blend of modern day supernatural elements, and lovable characters. Then again, maybe Persona 4 would be "too weird" for some initiates. Y's 7 on the other hand is easier going down!

I'd shy away from JRPGs outside of FF to begin with UNLESS i knew that they would be able to tolerate it. I'm buying a Vita just to play Persona 4 golden btw. I've never played a persona game, but they look so good!

If you like Mass Effect you should like Persona 4 Golden,Blake. Odd as it is they share many similarities. (Well, except for their diverse  cultural overtones and their completely different combat systems. lol.)

Oh I fucking love Mass Effect, but that's mainly because of the rich and detailed universe. BETTER THAN STAR WARS!

I tried converting my girlfriend with Brain Age on DS. She played it all of ten or fifteen minutes. No dice.

I got my college roommate's girlfriend into video games with Yoshi's Island.

Whoa... You trying to steal my Community Poll!?
lol, just kidding.

I'd probably use Castle Crashers. It's cartoonish, adult/child oriented (Adult themes were hidden, but still child-friendly!), funny, and also easy to pick up and play! It's actually what I used whenever I started to get my Wife into gaming!

Castle Crashers is a hell of a lot of fun. And yes I am! Got a problem? :p

Some good picks there. I would like to add any of the Lego games.

Super Mario Sunshine is relaxing and fun, but I don't know who it would convert. Still, I guess that's what I would try.

I am not quite sure.  Mario always seems to be a good place to start.

If it's for plataformer, Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros. 3 are good starting points. For 3D plataforming, Super Mario 64. For something of relative big scale before Fallout or Skyrim, Ocarina of Time and/or Twilight Princess.

Oblivion got quite a few of my friends into gaming at high school.

I used Animal Crossing (GC) to get my wife more into gaming.  Mass Effect worked well too.  She's currenting finishing up ME2 and will be starting ME3 right after.

Mario Kart. It's so easy and fun really. Maybe 2D mario games. I saw a kid in a game store playing Mario on WiiU and he was amazed by the racoon suit. He couldn't really jump or run or anything, but he was having fun. Ahh memories...
