Exit Musings, A Random Collection of Questions

Exit Musings.

I think that I am going to try something a little different.  Firstly, Metroid is a series that I can replay over and over and over again.  I have played through the main series so many times that I have lost count.  That being said, I had only played through the Prime Trilogy once before.  I am ashamed to admit that because Retro Studios is one of my favourite developers, ever.  I love lists, so I have decided to look back on my most recent play through of Metroid Prime 2:  Echoes and list off the things that I loved and the things that I did not love quite as much.

Things that I loved...

The soundtrack is as wonderful as ever but at the same time it is a little more subdued.  There are plenty of areas that used quieter songs that really helped you feel isolated and alone.

The gameplay is virtually unchanged from Metroid Prime.

The boss battles are awesome.  At least half of the bosses are gigantic, and I felt as though the odds were stacked against me most of the time.

The suit designs.

Things that I didn't love... as much...

The use of a somewhat bland colour palate.  This is only when comparing to Metroid Prime.  It works well for the environments that they used in Echoes, but Prime was very colourful.

I probably would have wasted an extra 3-4 hours wandering about not knowing where to go if it were not for the hint system.

In reality, I cannot think of anything that I truly hate about the game.  It is nearly perfect, as was its predecessor.

Some Potentially Unanswerable Questions

What ever happened to Sega Spectrum?  Was the date, 2013/6/12, actually December 6th instead of June 12th?

Is Valve still working on a Steam Box, or is that going to end up like Half-Life 3?

Who makes the greatest IPA?

How can Mario shoot fireballs underwater?

Why does the Dude hate the Eagles?

Why didn't Nintendo release Mother 3?

What the heck is with Microsoft's and reversing nearly every single Xbox One Policy?

Who am I?

I'm really interested in the Steam Box. As for Metroid Prime Echoes, Samus's armor looks great. (Not that you see it at anytime accept cutscenes) However, like you I prefer her traditional colors for nostalgia sake even if the dimmer colors make more sense from a realism standpoint.

I am not quite sure if it was made from a realism standpoint.  The story played off of the themes of Light and Darkness, and that is why they went that route.

Maybe he's hiding some welding tools under his outfit.

I feel as though I remember seeing this video somewhere, but it is still really cool.  Just like the vidoe I saw of people dumping lava onto ice.

Echoes was great but it was also really hard!

I remember being proud of myself when I finished it, but cannot quite remember the difficulty.  I did play it as part of the Trilogy this time.  From what I understand, they tweaked some of the difficulty spikes in Echoes.

Not sure if it's the greatest IPA, but I enjoyed this one quite a bit: 120 Minute IPA - Dogfish Head Brewery.Their 90 Minute and 60 Minute varieties are also quite good.

I was told about a year ago that Dogfish Head does not ship to Milwaukee.  Luckily, I have a brother who is currently doing work out east, and if I remember to remind him he will pick me up some of their beer.

I believe I have an answer to the last question. You are transmet2033, that's who you are lol.

As for the Sega Spectrum, it would be really cool if it existed, but Japanese date notation is year/month/day (thanks wikipedia!), so it's probabbly just some well done hoax. Either that or Sega postponed it.

I really liked the first prime a lot. I had some issues with Echos, mainly consumable beam ammo just seemed taboo as hell to me. That and the doors could be some what unresponsive. I even liked the multiplayer mode which I know a lot of people did not. Best IPA? Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA, super hoppy but not too bitter.

Marios fireballs? Its magic man...

Only played the first Prime game but never warmed to it exactly. Too use to the traditional FPS controls than what's offered on the GC I guess.

Answers:

Don't know. We are still waiting on word on PSO2 for PC though sega!

Still unknown to me but I don't give much for Steam given the aforementioned game. (I still have Half-Life)

What's an IPA? (I know that's not an answer but...)

His balls of fire are so hot the water can't cool them in time. Science?

thier the Eagles. I hate the Eagles and I don't even know who they are.

Nintendo didn't think there was a big enough market to warrant it's release. Though the other games did well, it wasn't well enough for the bottom line (moar monies)

After hearing the strong backlash over the original Xbox One's policies, I think this is how MS's Xbox division reacted

And in their panic, did what they did as we known it. I would too if my eyeballs were falling out of my head....

India Pale Ale.  The Metroid Prime controls worked perfectly for Metroid, but they did take a lot of getting used to.
