Updates, Critiques, and Other Non Sequiturs

Hi there folks. I hope all is going well. I can't say the same for myself though. Been a rough last few weeks working and with family. Took a lot out of me. Anyway, there's something I've been meaning to ask people for opinions about and that's about critiques. I've been thinking about the stuff I've wrote recently, I really don't like the quality of what I've written. I want to improve what I write and definitely minimize the bad stuff. I was wondering what are the best ways to get critiques or feedback? I ask that question because I do ask for critiques periodically in my blogs but I don't get much of it. Its weird that I'm taking writing so seriously, even when I don't really have much interest going professional, but I just love writing and getting better at it. Its kind of like how I am towards fighting games. I enjoy the challenge and getting better at it. Its weird.

Another route I was thinking about for looking for critique was opening up a twitter account and posting links to my blogs. I see a lot of people do that. I'm curious to those who do that, has it helped you with critique or just introducing more people to work? I'm always afraid, especially with my fighting game blogs, that I'll open myself up to trolls. But then again any blog could do that. I kind of want a twitter account to see what people think about my stuff and see where it ends up. But then again, I'm not really into self promotion too much.

Wow, this blog is kind of melancholy. So, here's a funny British man playing around with a NEC Turbo Express. It's a lot funnier than its sounds.

See, that was fun. I think. I don't know. OK, later!

I like your blogs.  I don't keep up much with fighting games really but I always read your blogs.  In my experience, the chill thing to do is just write what you feel, and then the universe will sort it out.  That's what I do.

I'm on twitter, and I tweet my articles and blogs, but I don't know if that has any effect or not.  Twitter is like... just twitter.

Overall, I wouldn't worry about quality so much. Just write what you enjoy writing about, and people who share that interest will find you. Never overanalyze your writing too much, that's just a dead end.  I just go with it and deal with it later.

I guess overanalyzing kind of comes natural to me. Sometimes that helps me see new viewpoints and other times it can kill my stride. Its hard to dictate because I never want to sound upety or looking down on people. Thanks for the advice Matt.

Late but...Yeah you should relax a bit and..If you haven't,to focus on a 'voice' or I guess a 'style' of sorts to play around with, things inevitibly change over time, mostly slowly..I think my older blogs at 1Up would attest to that..:P Haven't had much time to read and write here much admittedly...But that's sort of what I go by,at least as I think about writing an 'article' of sorts..~(In the not-to-distant-future..) Oh and I have also noticed some folks use pictures and stuff to accentuate or exaggerate thier points within certain types of posts.(Sometimes all thier entrys..) But it's more..Something of a 'cosmetic' choice for the author..~

I wouldn't worry so much about the quality of your writing. The day you do is the day that trolls show up. I asked some simple questions on 1up and had to deal with the consequences for months. Don't take blogging too seriously. You should write for the fun of it. Your blogs are fine.

I've only had one troll to date so far, and I'm not sure it was even a troll. Just a guy who left a mean sounding comment on my blog and that was the only post they ever made. Anyway, thanks for the advice Abobo.

Honestly, I don't think your last blogs were bad. They had good grammar and you were very informative and showed your knowledge about the fighting genre.

As far as tips go, just write what you like. I think things like grammar and maybe text organization are things to improve, but as far as content and what you would write, just let it out. Just remember to be organized and have time.
