This is the review of the game modes of the game. I plan to do a separate character/fighting mechanic blog later on. Dynaty Warriors is a series that has been out for a long time and Ive been playing it since DW3. Its never gotten old and its not looking that it will any time soon. I know some people think some series should be put the ret after so long but DW has always kept my interest and its one series I dont want to die out. It prolly will one day or it will might become one we dont get in a lot over here in the USA. We aready dont get special editions for the game which Id throw my money at instantly but for now Ill enjoy what we get and take advantage of it while I can.
*Unfair I say....*
Dynasty Warriors isnt a game you wanna play for story, dont get me wrong. The story mode for the game is normally pretty time consuming. It however isnt its key feature. Its key feature is the fighting. The battlefield fights whether their going good or horrificly bad send adrenline flying through your veins. Especially when your commander is being attacked/possiably murdered in a minute and your way off on the other side of the damn map -_-. Yes, its happened a fair share of times through this series for me, especially during story mode battles. While I said that the story isnt its biggest draw most times DW8 story gameplay is done great this time. You actually have some choices to each battlefield instead of one pre decided one like DW7 and they brought back being able to run around your camp and speak to people. Not every battle has that though, some event scenes cut straight to the fighting but plenty of ones have you start in the base to where you can free roam it and speak to other officers and soldiers. Not all can be spoke to of course but they put enough in there to where its enjoyable. If I had to talk to everone, Id get annoyed before long. Some of the battle also have objectives that if meet will open other options up in the storymode for each faction. I feel is spoiler like for me to say what excatly because it was a nice surprise for me to find what it was. The thing Im most disappointed of in the game is while Im happy 2 player is yet again an option for story mode, they did it in a fashion Im not fond of. I was expecting more from it I guess. If you play 2 player, the second player cant roam the camp with you. It can only be you and they duplicate the officer they play, which I find ridiclous. They should have atleast kept only one verison of each of the officers whether a second player was playing one or not. It might be something petty to be disappointed in to others but I guess I was expecting more from Koei with 2 player being re added to the story. Overall though Story mode got a A- from me!
Free mode is well ^_^ practically every DW fans best friend. When it was removed in the previous games it was severally frowned upon and the game developers redeemed their mistake! Free mode is what I lose myelf in when Im not up to story mode or have beaten it. It keeps me entertained even though the story aspect has been conquered! Freemode allows players to replay previous battles fought and you can choose which side you would prefer to fight on, maybe you wanna be on the opposite fraction side and help them to victory? Free mode lets you do that! I put most of my game hours there since it gives me a freedom to play any character in any battle on whatever side I choose. Free mode got an A+!
Ambition Mode is the new extra mode they threw in. If you played DW7 you must remember conquest mode, there is no way it can be forgotten, it was quite massive. Instead of bringing it back they tryed omething new wich I give them kudos for. They didnt just throw it back in with it updated and new things added. They tryed something else. Ambition mode has you building a "Tongquetai Tower" which is a social base for the peasants and encourage the emperor Xian to visit you. You did this by taking part in battles, there are Skirmish, Raid, and Great Battles. Skirmish give you materials for building up your base easily. Raid increases fame which you need to be be able to recruit the most officers, and Great battles are big battles that have a lot of officers for you to recruit. Normally they have actual characters that are the playable ones in them that if you havent unlocked in story mode you can unlock that way. I still have a long way to go on this but Im enjoying it so this mode gets an A+!
They also included Gallery and Encyclopedia which both have been great add ons since previous installments. Gallery lets you look at officers, movies, events, weapons, wallpapers, animals and etc. The Encyclopedia actually gives you history info for the characters as well as other officers that are npcs in the game. I enjoy reading that type of stuff so some people might not like it as much. I consider them bonuses so they dont get a grade but their very nice bonuses!
Im enjoying this game a lot. Im happy we got it here state side and I hope we get the future installements if they do them like DW8 Extreme Legends or Empires. If you havent tryed Dynasty Warriors in previous games DW8 will be a great start point. Its out for both the PS3 and 360!
Once I can Ill do the second blog part to this, Thank you for reading ^_^
