Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Operation Flashpoint: is a military simulation game ( not a typical fps shooter ) and this is alot of the bad reveiws this game gets problem, reveiwers need to under stand a sim is real no quick scope shooting here this is real you take a shot i.n the head and your game is over and the quicker you understand this the better. Now that we have that cleared up, on with the reveiw. The first game Operation Flashpoint a PC title only was first developed by Bohemia Interactive Studio. the second Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and the third Operation Flashpoint: Red River were developed by Codemasters.
Dragon Rising: takes place on the fictional island of Skira, in May of 2011 after the global economic crisis causes mass unemployment and political destabilization in China. The PLA or Peoples Liberation Army, seize control of Skira and secure the newly aquired oil feilds and after the Russian peace talks fall through the PLA secure and build up defenses on the Northern Island of Skira. So per Russia and the United States Peace Treaty the US deploys troops to Skira to help her allies retake the island and so our story begins.
So the gameplay mechanics is simple and easy to navigate. the island is a little over whelming at first and from the minute you get off the chopper you start feeling tense cause just like in real life if you know one well placed shot or explosion can end your game then your on edge and to me this is good because it makes you very cautious and aware of your surroundings. The controls are mapped out very good and easy to access once you get use to it, the tutorial does a very good job of explaining the controls to you, you can call in artillery strikes which is really cool to watch i might add, its good that the controls are mapped so good cause there are moments when just trying to order your squad to take cover is very stressful, it really gives you a sense of how our troops must feel when all hell breaks loose and you have to try and remain calm evaluate the situation and issue orders accordingly.
The graphics are actually average there not bad at all but not like Battlefeild or the likes up close it was pixleated and at a distance looke good, the music score is right on par with what you want, and expect the voice acting is done very well and very beleivable i was very impressed with the voice acting especially when your riding in a chopper or hummer in between extraction points team mates will have conversations that are touching and humorous. The gameplay and mission designs are a mixed bag some missions are done very well while others appear broken and designed poorly, glitch wise i found none through my single player or online playthroughs it was solid with no framerate drops of any kind. Overall the game is solid and it is what it is its a military simulation and done very well and i would recommend it to anyone who likes military or history, the story although shallow is told well and if you like Fps games you will enjoy this one, but do note if your a Call of Duty fanboy this maybe a little to tedious and slow for you to enjoy, but i enjoyed my time on Operation Flashpoint and will be playing Red River soon.
My Score 4 out of 5 Very Good
