Duet of the Keyblade Masters

From: Kingdom Hearts II

Remixed by: Uboichi

I haven't played Kingdom Hearts II so I don't know anything about two keyblade masters, but this remix does feature two pianos and is pretty darn awesome. It starts quietly and mysterious with just one piano before the second comes in and they do a lot of dark noodling that is, again, mysterious, and then hit a bunch of runs. Things continue to pick up from there with a lot of impressive technical wizardry in the arrangement and the song hits a number of highs and lows over its 6'10" length. What I really love is that much of the song is based off an asymmetrical division of the 4/4 time signature—1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +. It's really cool and lends the song that extra bit of rhythmic oomph, making this a difficult song (at least for me) to listen to just once.

Nice song Philip. I never played KH II. I did play the first one a little bit, but I couldn't really get into it. I don't remember why.

I played the first KH through to completion a couple years ago and liked it well enough but never played the second one because I wasn't willing to spend the money to get it lol. It's got great music, of course. Yoko Shimomura never disappoints Laughing

This is a really cool piece. I enjoyed the first game, it had some nice music too. Tried to play the second game but all the mystious giant zippered hoodies and overly serious mood just got a bit rediculous and I quit after about 2 hrs. May have to hunt down the soundtracks at the very least though.

I have the soundtrack to the first game on my computer but I suppose I've never listened much to the second (never played the game either, though I did like the first one). I guess I should hunt it down too lol

I also played a bit of the first game. I liked it, I think I got to Tarzan. Maybe a bit further. This though, this is awesome.

Glad you like it! There aren't many remixes that employ multiple pianos like this, which is a shame.

The first Kingdom Hearts is definitely a classic of the PS2 era, even if the series has wandered far afield since then. Maybe the we-actually-know-it's-coming-now-for-sure Kingdom Hearts III will redeem all the spin offs. We'll see.

I think I played and enjoyed the second one as well. Did they both have the Gummi Ship? I forget.

I haven't played the second one but yeah, pretty sure it's got the Gummi Ship too. I remember reading that those sections were much improved lol

a nice piano piece. I don't know about the game much either myself but this could be played at any piano recitie and I'd consider it a classical work.

Yeah, you're right. Makes me wonder if the remixer wrote out the sheet music.
