In my previous blog I wrote about playing Metal Gear, the MSX port to the PS2.  My first Boss Battle was with The Shotmaker.   Now I am at my second Boss Battle in the game and it is with

The Machinegun Kid!

*all photos courtsey of GH*

Is this really the end of the line for Snake?   Of course not but the Machinegun Kid is no Shotmaker.

Anyway. I am having so much fun with this game. And it is so awesome to see how so  many things that happen in the playstation game Metal Gear Solid started here in this game. Here is another example I found tonight.

Infared Goggles.

In one area I kept setting off the alarm but no one saw me and I didnt see any cameras?  Yet the alarms kept going off and alerting the guards.

Who Set Off The Alarm?

So I back tracked and found the infared goggles and went back to that area and when I equipped the goggles?

Laser Beams!

Very clever.  But not clever enough to out fox Snake!

I'm three hours into the game and I believe I still have a long way to go. One thing that is slowing me down is Health Rations. I run low and then I have to try and back track to find them.

And also something that I did not know that I learned the hard way and so did James aka jgusw to save your data (game save) You Must Be In an Elevator!  You can save at any point in the game but dont be fooled....when you load it up  again you will be in an elevator way before you saved.   Just a heads up.

So, I've beaten two of the Bosses and I cant wait to fight some more. How is snake gonna get out of this mess?

Stay tuned for more updates.

It's too bad you couldn't smoke a cig to detect those laser beams. I remember the first time I figured that out in MGS. That was such a neat touch and it kinda blew my mind. This game looks like it would be fun. I played the first Metal Gear on NES but never the MSX one. I heard that it's a lot better.

Aaron:  I rarely used the cigs for the laser beams. but now that you mention it, Snake has cigs in this game and I already had them, I just didnt think to use them.  I also heard the Nintendo changed the game  a little when it released it for the NES.. I also remember Hideo Kojima wasnt pleased with the NES version either.

Good to see you're staying out of trouble and off the streets. I think I may give MGS a try after I finish Tomb Raider. Of course, I'll have to get back and finish Tomb Raider first. I need a couple of days off where I don't actually have to be doing something other than what I want to do.

Tami:  yep, Im staying indoors in my bedroom with a window A/C.  That's why Im playing my PS2 all the time, my PS3 is in a room thats a little too big to cool off.  Unless you try for everything in MGS, you can beat it in one sitting or a good weekend at the least.

I am also surprised at just how much was in this original game. Nice.

Joe:   Me too.  I've probably used the cardboard box more in this game than in all the previous MGS games combined!  What I dont find in this game I expect to find in MG2.

I still havent played the originals MGS, but I was always fascinated by how much they are referenced throughout the series - 8 bit flashbacks :)

Jonathan:  Yep, they keep reference back to this game and now it all makes sense...or does it?  hahahahahah

It is very interesting discovering the origin of now famous parts of MGS lore. Kojima is a genius and anyone who doubts that should play Metal Gear. Way ahead of it's time....
