Mario Kart has always been one of my favorite racing games besides F-Zero, but it's kinda hard to get excited about Mario Kart ever since Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed set the bar high and changed the kart/arcade styled racing genre. Seriously, check the game out if you haven't, it's one of the best racing games this gen. However that doesn't mean I'm not excited about Mario Kart 8 I saw the trailer:

One of the things I liked about the game right off the bat was how the game looked, I never seen a game that looked that good. Sure maybe because I never seen an HD Mario Kart game but to get a game looking that good so early in the Wii U's lifespan just amazes me. I thought they were gonna half-ass it like they did with Mario Kart Wii like how the characters didn't looks as good, I tell you that Double Dash looks much more better than MKWii. Heck Mario Kart 7 looked better than MKWii.

Also the anti-grabbity feature and yes I know I didn't spell it right (thank you Garfield and Friends). But judging from the new gameplay, it could of easily passed off as an F-Zero game. Also the anti-grabbity to me that is just Nintendo ripping off ASRT's transforming cars, but we all know which one will sell better but we all know sales don't equal quality.

Aside from pretty graphics and grabbity, one thing they have kept quiet about is the ammount of tracks and characters they are going to have. I'd personally love to see an entire cup with all the Raibow Road levels, that would be cool. Nintendo has a chance to make this the Ultimate Mario Kart game, so we'll see how that goes. I'm interested to see how many characters they are going to have, and howe many unlockable characters will there be (unless they use dlc). There are some familiar faces I want to see as well as some new ones, here are those choices:

 

Nabbit: His first appearance was in New Super Mario Bros. U and the dlc known as New Super Luigi U. He is that guy who steals stuff and then you try to catch him to get it back. He is a new character that Nintendo has brought out in a while so giving him more exposure like let's say in Mario Kart might do good to boost the popularity of Nabbit, and sales for people who haven't tried out NSMBU. See, everybody wins.

 

R.O.B.: Mario Kart DS was the first Mario Kart game to use online and to have a non-Mario character in it's roster. He was my favorite character to use there besides Mario. I'd love for him to make a return but the problem with R.O.B. is that he has no legs. That is a big problem since Nintendo is bringing back bikes to MK8. Not sure how they will make him work but I'm sure they will. If not, he can be a cameo like in F-Zero GX.

 

Funky Kong: The coolest of the kongs, he is the definition of cool in the DK games. While he may not like going on adventures (which is probably some bs Nintendo made so he wont have his own game) he does like doing cool things. Like surfing, helping the kongs, and stuff. Racing will just add to his ever growing list of cool things Funky Kong does. He has been playable in some games, so having him return  for MK8 would be cool

 

Stanley the Bug Catcher: I don't know much about him other than he was in Donkey Kong 3. We haven't seen much of him outside of some Smash Bros trophies. Wouldn't it be interesting to see him in a game again? I doubt he'll get his own game but having him in a game like Mario Kart would be nice. I wonder what would happen if he saw DK racing?

 

Pauline: The original damsel in distress from games (atleast from Nintendo) has been in some games as of late. Mostly in the Mario vs. DK games but I think it's about time they break that mold. How about have her as a playable character in Mario Kart? The game could use some more female racers in it. Plus it would be the perfect chance to get back at DK with the Blue Shell.

Toadsworth: You may be thinking, Toadsworth? Why in the world would you want him in the game? Well for starters, why not? His first appearance and probably his biggest role was in Super Mario Sunshine, and later on in the Mario rpg games. He was playable in Mario Supper Sluggers and he was pretty good. It would be really hilarious to see him race. But he's not the only old man I want to see in the race track...

 

 

Cranky Kong: Known as the original Donkey Kong and probably the original Game Master, Cranky Kong needs to be in a game where you play as him. You will probably tell me how in the world is he going to race if he's old? Well he was actually a playable character in the game Donkey Kong Barrel Blast for the Wii and he had the best stats from all the Kongs. Plus he can probably make some potion to make him race or something. 

 

 

Kirby: I'd love to see some non-Mario characters in Mario Kart for a change and the perfect choice in my opinion is Kirby. Why Kirby? Because he is the most flexible video game character ever that's why. I've yet to play a bad Kirby game. I mean any play style just works for him, make him into a platformer, it works, put him in a puzzle game, fine, put him inside a pinball game it works. Make the game all touch screen controlled, it just works naturally for him. And it could be good testing waters to see if non-Mario characters work. I'd love to see Link, Samus, Olimar, and Captain Falcon in the game and Kirby will be the first stepping stone for the idea.  He was denied as a guest character in ASRT because it wasn't a Nintendo idea, Mario kart is a Nintendo idea, if they still deny him then Ninty is just being difficult.

 

Rosalina: Everyone that knows me well knows how much I like Rosalina.  From all the Mario girls, Rosalina is my favorite because she isn't in distress and she actually helps you. I really liked her in Mario Kart Wii and was surprised to see her back in MK7. Sure I only added her because I like her more from Peach and Daisy. It could be because of Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 or it could be because she is different, I just wanna see her playable in MK8. Not sure if it will happen but make it happen Nintendo!

 

Sonic: This would probably be the last choice you'd hear from me. Why Sonic? Remember the first Sonic All Star Racing game? Mario was going to be on the Wii version but the idea was scrapped. Then they wanted him in the sequel too but it also got scrapped. Sega has a partnership with Nintendo that any and all Sonic games are exclusive to Nintendo platforms for this year or a whole year. That and there is a rumor that a Mario and Sonic Crossover racer is in the works, could it be Mario Kart 8 or a new game? If the crossover idea get's scrapped, have Sonic be in MK8, plus Sonic had transforming vehicles, MK8 has some kind of transformation going on so he would be a perfect fit. Plus if Sonic isn't in Smash Bros, Sonic could atleast be in MK8. My brother is really rooting for Sonic in Smash but we don't know next to nothing on that, but hope he is in too.
