I think I'm going to hell for how much I laugh at the pain of others. Mild spoilers.

In case the video still isn't working when you get here. http://youtu.be/glGKAKYFVwA

yeah I saw this. Or most of it anyway. I couldn't finish watching it. It was too depressing for me. I watched it mainly because I was interested in seeing more of Michelle Williams's stuff. She was great in My Week With Marilyn.

Still haven't seen that movie. I guess I should have known you had though. lol

This is kind of my problem with depressing pretentious indie films. My life has plenty if difficult hurdles as it is so I'm already partially jaded. I don't think I need a push to be twice as cynical. (Aka, I want at least 50% of myself to be a hopeful optimist.)

Also, what's the point? That relationships CANNOT WORK on a particular budget? Seems a bit classist somehow. Btw, the director comes of as an evil narcissistic twit who is willing to cause suffering to others just to make his movies more "genuine". In my humble opinion he can fuck off and die.

Regardless, glad you got enjoyment out of it,Joe! I do have a black heart too but I think it works a bit differently. This movie would simply bore me & make me feel miserable about living. lol. At least you got that across so thanks for warning me through your in depth description.

There's more than just a particular budget, there's also alcohol and just plain growing apart, but yeah, I'm not sure why this was made other than to depress people or make us two sadistic assholes laugh, like I said.

On the other hand, the director literally had to pay TO get it made, because apparently it came down to they were short whatever his director's fee was, so he took that money and put it right back into the project, meaning he still had to pay taxes on it. So he really wanted to make it, whatever the purpose was. It actually has really good reviews from both critics/audiences on Rottentomatoes, I doubt for the same reasons I gave, so I guess there are a lot of people that just like the message of "things don't always work out." It's a very true message, but why you would want to be reminded of that, I don't know.

For me "Things don't always work out" has been ingrained into my mind since I was young. Aka, I never was delusional nor did I ever believe all life's tribulations played out like a fluffy Disney movie complete with happy endings. lol. It just seems as if they're trying to throw something in our faces most of us know already. (Though I wouldn't show Blue Valentine to kids. It would ruin them!)

I felt the same about Super. When Ellen Page's character got her head blown off I felt as if the director was screaming "See?! This is the grim reality of being a vigilante or a super hero!". To which my mental reply was "No shit,Sherlock! Most comic book fans know this already! Showing me Ellen's fake skull fragments and brain matter isn't giving me an epiphany. Thus if that was your goal you failed miserably."

I find it kind of hillarious when these pretentious movie makers try to shock us. As if anything could be more grim or upsetting than real life. Tongue Out

Dammit Broken, I didn't know that happened in Super. Spoilers, man! But then I let a couple mild spoilers about Blue Valentine go, I guess, so I can't be too mad. lol

And I guess depressing stories have their place, and I can appreciate lessons of "it's not always just going to work out" being taught, but I prefer my redemption stories and happy endings, nonetheless. Of course, I DID just give this a positive review, let's keep in mind, so there's something to be said for what I think is "so much of a trainwreck it's funny" material.

Sorry I spoiled Super. I just had the feeling that would be a movie you've already seen. Despite me giving away a part of the film it's still worth seeing. I liked it overall actually.

Nah, it's alright. I've heard people talk about that in a similar way to what I said about Blue Valentine, but I appreciate dark comedy, so you didn't totally ruin it for me I don't think.

I really like this film. I thought both Gosling and Williams were superb in it. It is depressing as hell, but sometimes relationships end up that way. I just thought they had tremendous onscreen chemistry. The whole thing worked.

I honestly can not disagree with anything you said, but I just found its depressing nature a bit surprising in a humorous way.

It's even worse than "The Room"

I shall avoid this movie like the plauge. If not because it's that despressing but I don't want to laugh at something that is suppose to be horribel but turns out too funny. I already do that whenever I read/watch the news.

No no, it's nothing like The Room. The Room was also hilarious, because it was made by an incompetent jackass (a jackass I actually really like, because of his eccentricity and his movie is kind of an "Ed Wood" case to me, but still an incompetent director in every way, technically). This is hilarious to me because I have a jaded sense of humor that doesn't know how to react to certain bad situations except to laugh, but was made by a passionate director that definitely knows what he's doing, and how to get great stuff out of his actors

In hindsight, I should have made more clear just how well-made and well-acted the movie is beyond just the one line where I say that, but if people legitimately like this, they're liking a very well done film, I just ... I dunno, it was hilariously depressing to me if that makes sense.
