My week with pictures

Well the highlight of my week happened at work on Tuesday. First my four and a half month contract which was to end on August 30 looks like it's being extended, maybe for another year. (fingers crossed).

The one of the Supervisors came into my cube with this:

new core i7

It's a Core i7 HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook. i7 3517U, 8 Gigs of RAM expandable to 32. 128 GB SSD drive which isn't big but it boots up in a flash and I have a 320 GB in a USB 3.0 enclosure courtesy of my PS3 so I've got lots of space.

It has a full HD screen on it which is really nice and even though it's Windows 8 I have Classic Shell installed so when I don't want to use the touch screen I can just use it like Windows 7. Start menu and all. Classic Shell is highly recommended for those trying to navigate Windows 8 on a non touch device. It's on sourceforge.net.

What follows are my recent finds from Value Village. They've been cleaned and played and they all work brilliantly. I love finding stuff like this

Sonic 3

Yes Sonic 3. I know it can be found on a million compilations but this is the original.

6 Pak

More games that can be found on comps but I couldn't resist.

Arcade Classice

It's got Pong on it!

Dynamite Headdy

This was in the box with my Pikachu N64. Since I paid 5 bucks for the whole box and sold the N64 for 50 is stands me less than nothing.

X men

It's X-Men. Why does Cyclops fight with a stick? At least I think it's Cyclops.

quackshot

This is Quackshot. Didn't know what it was until I cleaned and played. It had Donald on what is left of the label. How could I say no?

Oh I also found a brand new copy of Time Stalkers for the DC. Plastic wrapped and everything for $2.99

Anyway that's my week. Working from home tomorrow on my brand new laptop. How's your week going?

Nice laptop. I miss the one that fried, this one is such a step down, but it was free. I have those first two Genesis games, bought them new a long time ago. As for my week...long. Not bad, just long. Recovering from the stress I was under last week.

Yeah, I missed commenting on your blog about your friend passing. I just read it now. That sucks . Hope you're feeling better. If I'd had to pay for a laptop I certainly wouldn't be able to afford this one. I think it's cool that someone sent you a free one. :)

The guy with a stick should be Gambit. lol. (I know comic book trivia. Tremble at my greatness!)

Gambit seems to be the concensus then. Silly me.

Nice pickups Pete! I have been wanting Sonic 3 (and Sonic and Knuckles) for a while now even though I already have them on compilations. I'm pretty sure it's Gambit that fights with a bo staff in that X-Men game.

Thanks to you and Ben for setting me straight on Gambit. I couldn't really make out the character I was playing as and then my son suggested it might be Cyclops even though that made no sense.

It is thin and the screen looks great. I've never seen so much detail.

Cyclops is on the bottom right of that cover shooting lasers out of his eyes ... come on, man. lol Nah, I guess those of us more familiar with the old cartoon show know more about him, since he has only been in Origins: Wolverine as far as the movies. So it's not like you committed a crime.

I wish someone plopped a free laptop like that on my desk. Maybe once I move into the new position and actually have a desk, it will come.

Yeah I am somewhat familiar with the X-Men but those Genesis graphics aren't the clearest and it was my son who said, "Is that Cyclops, why is he fighting with a stick?" So I went with it. :)

If memory serves me right, Quackshot is great plataformer. With the extra feature of starring  Donald Duck, it is easy to say it's a great purchase :)

I love me some Donald Duck. :)

I want computer. That is all. Always wanted to go SSD but they are so costly. But the speed of boot up must be worth it. Also wanted the sega six pack but cound never find one anymore. Those carts are getting hard to find.

You can get one of the smaller SSDs for well under $100 these days and really all you need is space to install the OS with a bit left over. Here are some sub 100 drives at Tiger Direct. They are mostly 64 GB and there is an 80 in there too. Plently big enough to install windows on which speeds things up considerably

That laptop sure does look nice, congrats.

It is really nice. I may even upgrade the ram on my own dime because the video ram is not discrete which is not optimum for playing anything on. LOL But it is after all a business laptop so I shouldn't be doing that anyway. Innocent

Nice! That is one sweet laptop there. I want to find that game Quackshot, never seen it before. I did find X-Men the other day, with a case.  How do you clean your Genesis carts? I know there is a kit you can buy for NES/SNES carts. Do you take them apart to do it?

Nope, I normally just clean off the connectors to make sure it works. I use a Q-tip with alcohol on it (not the drinking kind. Laughing).

If I need to clean the outside of the case I use a towel which I dampen with a little water. I try to avoid the labels because you can do more harm than good.
