I was not quite ready to dedicate my next 40+ videogames hours to Xenoblade Chronicles, and I have been in the mood to actully play Mirror's Edge.  So, I decide to try it on Tuesday evening.  By the time I put the controller down I had finished the third chapter.  Upon realizing that I only had six more to go, I decided to finish the game before jumping back into Xenoblade.

Things that I loved...

I loved the art style and the game's use of colour.  It is a very beautiful, clean and white world that has very bright splashes of colour strewn throughout the levels.  The blues and reds and yellows are just gorgeous on an otherwise white world.  That probably makes no sense, just go with it.

I loved the gameplay and how they handled gunplay.  The game sticks to platforming with a little gunplay sprinkled in for good measure.  It is extremely satisfying running and jumping and doing all of that parkour stuff.

I loved the chase.  There are parts of the game that let you explore a little, and they are nice.  I though that the most thrilling and wonderful parts where whenever you had the enemies on your tail.

I loved the length of the game.  I spent about 7-8 hours with Mirror's Edge.  It was the perfect length, especially with so many games out there that have a lot of padding.  Sometimes it is nice to have a lean and mean game.

I loved the main character, Faith.  I loved her so much that I felt so bad whenever she died.  I did not mean to let her die so many times.

Things that I did not love... as much

I did not like disarming enemies.  That is probably because I had forgotten on of Faith's moves until I was nearing the end of the game.  How am I supposed to remember all of the things from the tutorial?

I cannot say that I was the biggest fan of the cutscenes.  I wish that they would have done them a little bit more like the actual game...  it is a minor gripe.

Final thoughts

Mirror's Edge is a brilliant game.  I think that it is one of my new favourite games.  The gameplay is solid and the length is perfect for a long weekend.  I highly recommend it.  Also, I am sure that I will pick up the sequel/reboot on day one, or close enough to it.

On a non-gaming topic.  I am about half-way through Neuromancer.  Such a great book.  I have been doing very well with the books that I have been reading of late.  They have all been awesome.

Mirror's Edge is especially odd considering that it is from the worst company ever, EA.  why would they ever take a risk?

I haven't started Mirror's Edge yet but I've hardly touched any games this week. Played maybe an hour of Shin Megami Tensei IV and that's about it. Been very busy. But I'm glad you liked it and I think the length sounds great. I don't want fluff in my gaming experiences anymore.

Neuromancer is definitely a good book. I need to get back to reading. That's another thing that's fallen by the wayside of late Undecided

I hear that is what I have to look forward to in a couple of years, saying goodbye to philip-time.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Mirror's Edge. It really is a great game and so under appreciated. I put a ton of time into it doing all the time trials and speed runs and hope to go back and play it again someday. The upcoming sequel is one of the few games that might convince me to buy a PS4 at this point.

Had I realized what I missed, I would not have waited 5 years after the game was released.  Games with a short completion time are the ones that I come back to on a regular basis.  I hope to add mirror's edge to the same pile that has metroid fusion and super metroid, games that I play once a year.

I want to try this game. I have to admit I was scared off from it when I heard it was a bit hard in trying to get use to FPS platforming. Gave me the feeling of Ultima Pegan's jumping. Might give this a try if I can find it on the cheap, did you play on the Xbox 360 or PS3 version?

I downloaded it off of Xbox Live because it seemed to be the best deal at 15 and having it instantly.  looking at best buy right now, you can get a used copy for 8 on the 360...
