I was wondering if anyone on Pixlbit is into any Anime? I used to be into Anime in the 90s, mostly what was played on Toonami weekend nights, very late at night early morning. I'm talking about Cowboy Beebop, BigO, Ghost in the Shell, Gundam Wing, Evangelion. These shows I listed are pretty much my fav Anime shows but I haven't really had interest in Anime until maybe Full Metal Alchemist, New Ghost in the Shell and maybe Death Note. I watched the latest Evangelion films that were recently remade and they are still awesome. There is also more new Sailor Moon in development. I read a lot of buzz around Attack on Titan and checked it out and completely love it like my favorite old Animes. I would say it is one of my favorite new shows this year really. I'm glad I love Anime again. Brings back nostalgic feelings.

The show is about a walled city that gets attacked by giant humans, or Titans. Soldiers using special harnesses can grapple and fly around the city like Spider-Man while attacking with blades. The coolest part is when they're flying around, but I love the characters and story. It's very original and interesting, but it is very tragic and gory. Super cool show!

I just keep getting this Evangelion vibe with this series. It's in a different setting, and albeit to some degree with more of a positive vibe despite all the deaths and gore. but it's there. The walls as the shields/barriers of Tokyo 3. The titans reaching for the center just like the angels with their attacks, and the Evas had a human design to them. The kid (Eren) as an opposite to Shinji, and (Highlight to Read Spoiler)
he can transform into a titan while controlling it to the degree that the Evas were controlled
. Eren's father also as an opposite to Gendo.

I'm entertained, and I want to see where this series goes.

Aside from the obvious Eva Units/Angels/Titans+ kid Pilots/Soldiers experimental weapons etc.,  the girl Mikasa is just like Rei. Shinji was way more depressed than Eren, but angry Shinji is a lot like Eren. Also absent parents and violence. Agree with your comments.

I've pretty behind on anime ever since a site I used to watch anime closed down recently. The good things is that I think I found a replacement and I have another alternative if I want dubbed anime.

Though it looks interesting, i'm not too crazy to start Attack on Titan. Right now I need to concentrate on some series I left behind.

There's only like 17 episodes of Attack on Titan so far. I only watched subtitled versions. I think it's one of the best Anime shows I've seen for a long while, actually if I didn't know it was new and stumbled on it, I would say it was like one of the good Anime's from the 90s. It's hard to watch other Anime after this because it's that good. Just my opinion.

If it's on Netflix, I'll give it a chance. I like FMA, Cowboy Bebop, and the "Americamn anime" Avatar: The Last Airbender a lot. Still pissed Brotherhood isn't fully uploaded to Netflix. I've seen the Ghost in the Shell movie, and while the shots in the rain were pretty and it was a decent movie, I thought some of the English dub was extremely wooden and it wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be. Then again, I don't remember it all that well, so maybe I should give it another chance. I hear the series is better than the movie.

Those are some good Anime shows you listed there. Something about the "weirdness" about this one, Attack on Titan, is what's appealing to me. I remember not really understanding Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion the first time I watched them. They were just wierd fucked up shit and that's how Attack on Titan is. After watching 14 episodes I would say that it starts to slow down quite a bit with action, but it's still airing in Japan so I don't know where it's going and where it will end, so I'm intrigued.

I haven't watched a lot of anime but I've seen everything with Ghost in the Shell in the title, and Stand Alone Complex (including 2nd Gig and Solid State Society) is just awesome. It can be a little difficult to follow sometimes but it's definitely worth the effort.

I watched the first few episodes, and it just didn't click. Now, I'm not gonna be one of those assholes who questions why other people like something that I don't, it just wasn't for me is all.

That said, I have a feeling that I'll revist it once it's wrapped and see how I feel about it then.

This hasn't clicked for me either. Tired of the youth obsession in anime for the past few years. Give me manly men and womanly women doing manly and womanly things. Although I did highly enjoy Death Note. But the plot and atmosphere in Titan aren't as strong as that one. The intro song, on the other hand, is one of the best I've heard for anime in a long time. That does feel like something from the peak 90s anime period.

I never skip the opening song. It's crazy stuff! Very 90's!Cool
I also like the ending music, sad piano music, but still good.

I've always wanted to be into anime but have never had much of a chance. Fox played Dragon Ball Z when I was a kid and I watched as much of that as I could but we never had cable and buying anime on tape was soooo expensive. Since then I've watched a few things, namely Akira (which was weird and depressing) and everything Ghost in the Shell (which is awesome) but I'd love to see more, particularly Evangelion. Attack on Titan sounds cool though Smile

You should watch Evangelion if you can. I don't watch a lot of Anime, but the ones I did watch years ago are still great.

I've been watching it. I'll probably discuss it on the next NWP podcast if you want to hear my take on it.

A lot of anime doesn't click with me, but I'll have to see if I like some of the ones mentioned here.

Yeah, I've been really into this one since it aired. Unfortunately, the first episode seems kind of like a trojan horse as I was expecting a great plot full of emotion. Instead, AoT is merely a cool concept with really amazing action. Still the best new anime since Fate/Zero, I say.

How many episodes did you watch? I've watched 18 episodes and I've been captivated and left on the edge at the end of every episode. I'm actually anticipating the next new episode. I agree that the whole series deviated away from what appeared to be the main plot established in the first episode then quickly abandoned it. So I've loved and hated the series for doing this, but it doesn't make it bad, I feel it makes it more enjoyable because it made me care, which rarely happens. The first half of the series slows down considerably, there are many episodes with mostly dialogue and little action, then it picks up again then down, then up, etc. Then it gets really dark and strange, just wierd. I'm not sure what direction the show is taking now, it really is like a runaway roller coaster sometimes, and I like that.

Yeah, I have watched 18 of them as well. The slow pace is probably my biggest complaint, though the cliffhangers they leave you with certainly make the wait for each new episode exciting. Apparently, there will only be 25 episodes, but I'm sure given it's popularity they will make a second series at some point.
