Yay! New PC! Congrats Joe!  I have an ASUS and it's been great so far. I've had it for about 4 years and haven't had any major problems with it.

Yeah, I kept hearing how reliable they are, and they had a deal on the model.

Congrats. I am stuck with this Dell Latitude D630 for a while longer, as I can't afford to invest in a better laptop at the moment, and this one was a gift. I am appreciative, but I miss my old laptop with all it's bells and whistles, especially when I want to put my photos on my hard drive or Skype my friends overseas.

Do not feel too bad, I might still be using my Dell D620 for Office should I not feel like spending $80 for University Office right away or Open Office doesn't have all my needed features. It's all I had through undergraduate. That and a different Dell that was also a slow, free, hand-me-down from my computer teacher mom, that had to be reformatted (which is how I learned of Open Office) and that's when I was sent the shiny, new D620 in the mail. And you better believe it was damn shiny by comparison! lol

Also, at work, there is a D630 that runs teleprompter. What the hell is it with the D6 series of Dells? lol Anyway, I can definitely understand where you are coming from. Hang in there, mine at least does everything I need before it blue screens. My mom said they cleaned the dust out of some at work, and that got another year out of them. I think I might do something stupid with our vacuum here soon.

Congrats man! Getting a new piece of tech is always exciting, plus you can't go wrong when there is also a deal.

Yup. Amazon had the same base price as NewEgg, but it was also charging tax and what I thought were too-high shipping costs. I think that version had a Blu-Ray player and was black, so looked sleaker, but for more than $30 less and I can have it in just a few days, I'll take the NewEgg deal. I need a DVD writer more than a Blu Ray player anyway.

We shall see. At very least, I think the free stuff will run smoothly. So I'm happy about that. Smile

Good choice! ASUS makes pretty solid stuff.

So I was told. Actually, I want to ask you, you downloaded some software to make your OS more like 7/XP right? Where do I find that and how much would it cost? For now, I think I'll get used to using 8 on a non-touch-screen, but for further on down the line, I may want to know how to get this classic view, or is it just an option on the newer ones?

It is called Classic Shell and It's free. Go to this link and the download should pop up automatically at the bottom of the screen. Do not click on any of the other shit on the page or you are liable to dl some crap that you'll spend ages getting rid of.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/files/latest/download

Save the file to your local drive and then run it. It will replace the Internet Explorer symbol in your desktop view and if you set up Windows 8 to start in Desktop view instead of the Metro Start menu tiles you'll get something that works a lot like Windows 7 (or XP if you want).

Honestly, 7 looks a lot like XP to me, so either one. I kind of resent their need to change it.

Thanks for the info, it's a great help!

The most flamboyantly British-sounding one I could find. Couldn't afford his sassy, binary-speaking companion, though.

Where will I be, though? I'm like Carmen San Diego, only confined to Texas. lol

Must have got it by now eh? Hopefully, you're enjoying it. Right now, I'm typing on my laptop with a wireless keyboard... because my laptop's keyboard is fried. I'll probably have to get another new computer soon.
