Buyer's Regret

This morning it dawned upon me that I was having buyer's regret.  This feeling has been sitting with me for the past couple of days.  I am glad that I figured out what it was, but am surprised by the source.  I did not know that you could have buyer's regret from something that you have not purchased yet.  So, I fixed the problem and canceled my PS4 pre-order today.

I do want a PS4 someday, but the launch is not that day.  If there was a game that screamed "PHILIP, BUY ME!" coming out at launch, I probably would have kept the pre-order.  The only games that have me interested are infamous and killzone.  I do not really play games online, and infamous is coming out a couple of months later.  It does not help that I have only played killzone 2, and never finished infamous 1.  The only next-gen game that I know for a fact that I want is The Witcher 3.  It is not coming out this year, so I will gladly wait until it is released.

I also know that I currently own a massive collection of awesome games that is begging to be played.  How dare I neglect Metro:  Last Light, Dark Souls, Pandora's Tower, The Last Story, and Xenoblade Chronicles just because of something new and shiny?  Also, The Bureau is coming out next week.  I am far more excited about that game than Killzone.

There is just one more reason that pushed me to cancel my pre-order, handhelds.  There are certain types of games that you can only get on a handheld and I miss them.  Now that I have freed up some funds from the clutches of the PS4 I may pursue a handheld.  The only question is which one do I get?

Having bought a Vita in the past year and seen what has come out on the competition, I would recommend the 3DS. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed what I played on Vita with Persona 4 and Gravity Rush both being exceptional in particular but for me the catalog is seriously dragging. I'm hoping things will change in the next year as the hardware is amazing but 3DS just looks more fun at the moment.

The Vita needs a price-drop to sell more units.  I think that it looks as appealing as a 3DS, but for different reasons.  I am probably leaning more towards a 3DS at the moment.

I feel ya. I had the same experience just recently, and did the same thing. I figure I'll get one when the games justify the purchase, which at the moment they don't.

I read about you canceling your pre-order.  I think that it had a slight effect on my decision.

Yes i seen alot of pixlbitters cancel there order and quite frankly i think its a great idea save the money and buy games you really want on currentgen systems and let the next gen build up a library and work out the bugs then get one next year thats what im doing but at tax time im getting a ps3 and some games i really want.

The PS3 is an amazing console.  So many great exclusives.

I actually would like inFamous and Killzone out of the gate. What I wouldn't like is being a guinea pig for potential hardware issues and spending $400 on something I don't necessarily need ... especially since, as I understand, my new laptop can handle a decent level of games if I were to use it that way.

and with a winter sale coming to steam in a couple of month, you should be able to build up a massive collection of pc games for cheap.

As far as handhelds go, though the Vita looks pretty good, right now is kinda lacking a solid gaming catalogue. However, the 3DS now has a solid backlog and the system is great on its own. It's your choice, but I would go for a 3DS to be honest.

The more that I look at them both, the harder it becomes.  Looking forward, I am not quite sure what comes out on either system.  The Vita's future releases do appear to be far more grim than the 3DSs though.

Im having Buyers regret myself but not over the ps4. Im having it over Final Fantasy 14: Realm Reborn. I might just wait for the ps4 release of it and cancel my preorder. I think Im gonna be buying no new games until after the ps4 releases so I know Ill have the money. The only way Ill cancel my ps4 is if I dont have the money for it. I have both a 3ds and ps vita and I really cant say which one because the vita has several games that will release in the next half of the year that I think will be great but the 3ds does have a good library now. Its i guess if you wanna wait for more games or have instant access.

I told myself no more games until the PS4, but that did not work as planned.  Dark Souls and Mirror's Edge got the better of me.  I did not cancel because of money, I just want a good catalog before I get the system.

I don't see the point in getting a new console Day One anymore. The graphical jump alone used to justify it if nothing else but it's hardly noticeable anymore. My wife is far more excited about the next generation than I am lol. Like you, I have plenty of great games still waiting to be played.

Handhelds, though, that's another story. My 3DS XL has gotten more use this year than anything else. There are great games in all sorts of genres and more on the way. I'd definitely recommend getting one.

I would have definitely gotten an SNES on day one just for Super Mario World.  Looking back at the past few console launches, I don't think that there has been a system seller since Halo.

The Witcher 3.  That's the only game I'm looking forward to next gen so far.

and Cyberpunk 2077.  Those CD-Projekt RED guys are awesome.

Cyberpunk looks cool, but it's too far off for me to get excited about.  Between now and it's supposed release date, any number of things could happen to it.

There is always some issue at launch, usually better to wait. Not sure I can help you with the handheld, all I got is a DSlite and never owned either of the Sony models. Think it really comes down to the kind of games you like and price. If or when I upgrade I'm considering the 3DSXL.

I have not quite moved past the DSlite either.  It is such a great haldheld, especially since it also plays GBA games.

Yeah, GBA compatability is why I hope my DSlite never dies. I Stupidly sold my GBA SD several years back. Plus I had the GBA player for my Gamecube but my Gamecube bit the dust so it the only thing I have left to play GBA games on.Frown

I say get a 3DS, it just has a bigger library of games right now and it's just going to get bigger. If you want Nintendo games, then the 3DS is your best bet, plus it has alot of rpgs if you like em, that and it's going to have Pokemon X&Y and that reason alone would be enough for anyone.

I never actually beat a pokemon game.  I started blue a half dozen times, and played through to the final area of White.  I do like nintendo games, but I also like the sony games.  I should just stop thinking about it.

makes total sense. Might as well wait and enjoy what's coming down the pipeline than buy a system you may or may not be fully prepared for given the few games that come out during the usual release window of the system.

Xenoblades deserves taht kind of attention. Speaking of which (runs off to play)

I just finally moved out of colony 9.  Such a good game.

Don't you dare neglect Dark Souls, I'll disown you as a friend.. lol!

But I hear ya. I really want a PS4 as well, but other than Infamous, there's nothing that's really jumping out to me as of now. I'll definitely be getting one at some point though!

I booted dark souls up and played for a little bit, but will ot sink my teeth into it until I finish Xenoblade Chronicles.  With the little taste of Dark Souls that I have had, I am having a far better feeling about it than Demon Souls.
