So the Sony Gamescom conference just finished up and I watched the whole thing live on my PS3 on Playstation Home (lol I'm not even sure why they still support that, I don't know anyone who has actually used it) because I wanted to see it all on my tv instead of the small computer screen.
The biggest announcment was probably at the very end where they unveiled the PS4 launch date for the US and Europe (spoilers, its November 15, and November 29). This won't really affect me that much because I'm holding off on next gen for a bit till Kingdom Hearts 3 gets released (I'm a fanboy, I know) which won't be until at least 2015 where there will be a definite price drop.
Also, in a surprise twist, they announced that Minecraft, which hordes of people in my grade love to a sickening level, will be coming to the PS4! But wait, there's more, They also announced that it would be a launch title. The game's not really my cup of tea, but this should please the fans.
There was also a focus on indie games this time around, my favorite of which shown was Rime. Kotaku just posted that the game looked like a combination of Wind Waker, Ico, and Journey which I swear was the exact same thing that I was thinking.
But above all that, my favorite part of the entire conference was in the end where the Sony CEO had to make the obligatory "Sony has focused on the core gamers wheras other competitors (hint hint wink wink Xbox) have had gamer opposed policies".
I laughed at that. It was funny. Sometimes console developers act like a bunch of schoolyard kids, making fun of each other. But that's not neccesarily a bad thing, competition drives innovation as they like to say (I'm not sure who though).
Your move, Xbox One. Make it a good one.
Edit: Oh, I also forgot to mention that Assasins Creed 3 will be free for PS+ users and Borderlands 2 will be coming to Vita! Happy happy joy joy at more games!
