Since I'm titling things "BaD" over here, let me explain to the Pixlbit community: BaD is a community event started a few years ago on 1up by 1up bloggers alice_in_games and requezon, better known as just Alice and Gabe to many 1uppers.
It's a challenge that started as a silly game between them, to blog every week day of February, the shortest month, and see who ran out of ideas and resorted to cat gifs as blogs first. It later became an annual blogging and community event on 1up, when others started joining in the fun.
At the time I entered it this year, I didn't even know they had started it, I just knew I saw BaD mentioned everywhere; then someone mentioned them as its founders in a blog, so I went to their blogs to thank them for making it feel like the old, busy 1up I started blogging on at age sixteen in summer 2006, and add them as friends.
Since they said themselves in their blogs that they had no idea if people knew how it started, and were just happy to see what it became, I felt content to continue the tradition of BaD title puns here on Pixlbit, since it was a 1up community thing, and the 1up community seemed to migrate here the most out of any other site. Rudely, I forgot to mention its roots, hence this blog. lol
As it turns out, I once tried and failed to participate three years ago in 2010, according to some old 1up blogs I recently archived.
Back then, I was busy with training and check-in as a Community Assistant, what most of you would know as an RA, or Resident Assistant, if you attended college and resided in a dorm/residence hall; no I'm not here to bust you for alcohol, come to my blog and have a beer, especially if beerfan shows up! haha
This year however, I FINALLY have a job again after months of looking for one non-stop directly after graduating last May, but it's freelance, so I still have enough time on my hands most of the time to blog every day, when I'm not looking for extra cash on the side, exercising etc. Last week, my days were 14, 12, 5, and 4 hours long; this week nothing so far; it's erratic as hell, especially during this slow time of year, and trust me I'd prefer the money to the free time, especially since I love my job, but in the slow quarter meantime, I've been exercising and blogging away!
So that's what BaD is, and I hope it can continue and new community traditions can start here.
Anyway, tomorrow marks the last day of BaD, its twentieth day (twenty-eighth for me, as I chose to blog on weekends as well), and I noticed another blog challenge series from my archives: Game a Day, which was a challenge in March, it looks like.
Now, in its original form, GaD seems to have been something initially intended for facebook that a handful of 1uppers adopted one year, having something for each day, like "March 16th, a gaming town you wish were real" etc., and since this is already a gaming website, I can understand if others lack interest in something from facebook, originally.
But, go look at my collection: what do you see? 32 games, stopping with the DS, and yes, that's literally it; I've put the games I remember us having from systems that moved out with my brother on my "wish list," so while I grew up with those as well, I don't own them.
You'll notice a lot more movie talk on both my 1up and Pixlbit blogs than gaming talk; I still love games, but recently it's an expense I just can't justify, at least as far as current generation consoles go and where I'm at right now, financially, though I do think I'll make a Steam account soon; hopefully there are games on there that this Dell D620 can handle.
So, I'm going to challenge myself to continue blogging every day, but tie at least one game into whatever the hell it is I'm talking about, starting this Friday. Feel free to join, and if you want to do it the original way, I'm more than happy to send you a copy of the daily list.
I'm excited to have something relevant to the community to talk about again, hopefully this will help me feel less out of place.
