I think you should have a poll asking which video game character has the best butt ;)
seriously, I dream about games all the time. I can't remember them all though. But I dream that I'm playing imaginary games quite often.

What was the coolest dream you've ever had about a video game?
If you haven't dreamed about a video game, then what was the coolest dream you've ever had?
I’m sure I have had some, but can’t remember any actual dreams I’ve had about a video game. But I used to have vivid daydreams about the original Tony Hawk all the time. It was actually the game that got me back into console gaming after I went off to college and stopped playing games for a while. I played it at a friend’s during Christmas break and had to buy it (along with a playstation) when I went back to the dorms. My dorm friends and I played it so often I would see myself grinding on everything around campus as I walked to classes. I would see opportunities for endless grinds everywhere I went. And it wasn’t like I was just looking at stuff and thinking “I wish this was in the game.” I would actually find myself forgetting that my life wasn’t the game and have to snap myself back into reality. It probably didn’t help that I spent very little time sober during college. :)
I've been having dreams about games since I was a kid and I still have a ton all the time, and I remember lots of them. There have been so many thousands I can't hope to relay them all here or pick favorites really. Sometimes I simply dream about a game I've been playing lately. Back when Fable 2 first came out I would quit the game and go to sleep only to continue dreaming I was playing the game and I could hear all the voice work, music, and play with the mechanics and do quests. I've had dreams of playing matches of Civilization and other strategy games. I dreamt I was playing F.E.A.R. and that was the only time I've ever had a nightmare about a video game, it was horrible and I was glad when I stopped dreaming about that game lol. I've dreamt I was Mario a lot and I could jump hundreds of feet into the air. In the dream I can always feel my guts getting butterflies from the falling, it's kind of scary but it's real exciting.
Then sometimes I'll dream about games that don't exist, ideas I've made up in my head. I've blogged about some of those from time to time but not recently. I really like those dreams, sometimes they're lucid enough that I can even manipulate the levels as if I'm in a level builder, bringing walls down, putting rooms together, etc. I've been able to dream pretty vividly and regularly since I was a kid. I know people who don't dream or never remember their dreams, it's crazy. The parts of my brain that help you dream must have more electricity going to them and be wired a little different.
I know that I day dream about videogames all the time. Super Metroid took over my mind when I first played it. I would plan out what I was going to do in the game instead of listening to my teachers. I am currently obsessed with Fire Emblem Awakening, so I am working out strategies and plans in my mind as I type...
When there was an Atari in the dorm lounge (before some drunken asshole who didn't even live in our dorm trashed the place and broke it), I used to play so much Demon Attack that sometimes I would dream about it. Other than that, though, I don't really dream about games. My subconscious works through puzzles I'm stuck on while I'm sleeping, though.
"My subconscious works through puzzles I'm stuck on while I'm sleeping, though."
That used to happen to me all the time back when I would play PC adventure games all the time. I would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, "knowing" what I needed to do. I would often have trouble falling back asleep due to the excitement and would sneak out of bed to the computer room (which was next to my parents bedroom) to try it out. It could also turn into a big let-down if I was still wrong.
For me, I dream more when I have less stimulus like TV and video games in my life. Plus, if I'm less interested in things like activities and hobbies, then I'll dream more. That being said, I don't think I dream about video games. The most awesome dream I had was when I realized I was dreaming while I was dreaming. In my subconscious mind, I started doing things like flying and playing basketball like a professional player. It was really wild, and I never forgot it. That was 20 years ago.
Sadly, I always forget the dreams I have. However, I do remember the ending of a dream I had about Sonic. It ended with the main character defeated by Eggman/Robotnick and all hope lost. Fade to black and then there's a scene of Team Chaotix during that time doing silly stuff in their office, but suggesting that they could become the heroes of the story. Unfortunately, I woke up there.
I did dream once that I was a pokemon trainer and it was pretty cool, I was traveling through the whole region defeating the gym leaders and beating the bad guy team. I went up against the elite 4, and then I was up against the champion, didn't know what happened because I woke up. And maybe because the champion was Cynthia, that may be the reason I woke up...
After playing a whole lot of Soul Reaver I had a dream that I could shift between demisions like in the game, I was kind of teleporting all over the University Campus. Another time after playing the first Spiderman game on PS1, dreamt I was Spiderman web zipping all over the place. I have had a few Borderlands 2 dreams too.
I used to always dream about being on some adventure, and I would wake up thinking I had just been in some awesome action movie. I haven't had one of those in years though. Now it's all psychological weirdness or work related nightmares or more often nothing at all. Games haven't snuck in there at all even after ten straight hours of Just Cause.
I was actually a commander in the game "Defense Grid" where I actually had to command various legions to troops to build and organize tower placements to take out the alien forces and ensure that NOT ONE POWER CORE fell into their hands. It was much more intense than the basic point and click gameplay of the game itself. It felt like it was an epic battle on each stage to ensure the aliens didn't overtake my homeworld.
Plus Tifa Lockhart was my second in command.
What? Stop looking at me like that!
