Why?
If it's a game that just came out, I'll buy new. If it's something that's been around for a little while and has deep discounts, I'll buy used.
The $5 difference isn't enough to bother with a used copy at the start, but down the line, the price differential between the two grows too vast to ignore. Factor in sales and other discounts and the used copy becomes a much better deal.
That being said, I don't buy many games when they first come out. I just don't think many are worth $60 + tax, which is quite the investment when you have a family. I bought Pikmin 3 new and it'll be one of the only games all year that will get that treatment.
You summed that up very well, thus saving me from having to do it lol. I bought BioShock Infinite new when it came out, but that might be the only full-priced console game I've gotten this year. Can't quite remember. I also came to the HD generation late (having just a Wii before that) and so there are lots of older games for cheap that I haven't played.
Overall it would be used. I'll pick up new games every once in a while, but usually it'll be used. I don't play multiplayer, and by the time I buy my games all the DLC has been released, plus you can't go wrong when you pickup 3-4 games and have them be under $30 bucks.
I have alot of used games, I try to buy new as much as possible though. Cost is always the driving factor. $60 is too much for a game IMO and I always wait for a price drop. $20 or less is what I pay for most of my games.
If I were to go to Gamestop though (I rarely do) and had to pick between a $55 used game and a $60 new game. I would buy the new game every time.
Almost always new. A major reason being that I do most of my game buying over the internet and I don't like the uncertainty of getting a used game without seeing the condition of it first. But I also like supporting the companies that make the games by buying them new. Sometimes I'll wait for the price of a new game to drop first though. Depends on how badly I want it.
Used. I have to make the most of my funds if I want to be able to play a wide assortment of games I'm interested in. Plus when I usually have money for a game I really want it's when the game is already out of print.
If I really, really, really, REALLY want a game then I'll go ahead and buy new. I couldn't wait for Dissidia DuoDecium Final Fantasy 012 to be able to play with my Tifa.
What? Stop looking at me like that!
Depends on how difficult I think it will be to find the game later (or if it's a Dragon Quest game). I buy a lot of RPGs new because I worry about being able to find them later for a decent price (or at all). And some games I just can't wait for to come down in price (Dragon Quest, Journey, R&C complete collection on PS3, etc.). But usually I'm playing catch-up and it just makes more sense to buy used.
I usually buy used games. For most games, I wait years before buying them. Many games I buy I can only get used.
I buy new if I really want the game or if I think the game will be rare and cost more the longer I wait to get it. I also buy quite a few games on sale.
I don't buy used just to save $5.
Today was a perfect example. I got six games for $40 used. I almost got just Dragon's Crown on Vita for that amount, but six beats one for me today.
I really like buying new though. I try to reserve new games for that extra special one I just can't do without and that might go hard to get later. Etrian Odyssey, Dragon's Crown, Fire Emblem, stuff like that.
Striclty new for me. I meana few bucks isn't much of a difference to me, plus who knows were that used game has been. Most of the games I have on the PS3 were 20 bucks ne anyway, I think I've only bough a handful of games at launch price. If it's something I must play, the I get it right away, otherwise I'll wait for a price drop or the eventual GOTY ED. But if it's Mario or Pokemon we are talking about, then day 1 no matter the cost.
New, but keep in mind, I usually only owned Nintendo consoles and very rarely bought games at all; it was a very special treat to buy a game, so that's why I'm used to buying new. If I bought as many games as a lot of you, I would probably utilize used purchases quite a bit more often. In fact, since I now have a decent enough laptop, I'm pretty much waiting for a Steam winter sale.
