An Angry Rant

I am writing this because I am very angry right now. I am having a pretty tough time with Peace Walker. And do you know why? Because Hideo is forcing me to play on the normal setting. In Peace Walker you can not choose an easy setting. I have to play on the (harder) Normal difficulty. So naturally Im not progressing very well.

And that got me to thinking. when VHS  video movies first became really popular and all the movie video  rental stores opened. Someone once wrote the movie renters were the only consumer that rarely get what that came for.  For example, if you wanted the movie Back To The Future and went to the rental store to rent it and it wasnt in, then you would probably rent another movie.

However if you went to the store for milk and they were out you would not buy apple juice instead.

I bought the video game Pure but after months of playing it off and on I can not play all the tracks included in the game. Because I have not finished first in all the races and completed certain objections neede to unlock all the tracks.

Why dont video games tell you before you buy the game that you will spend $60 for this game and you will not be able to enjoy all it has to offer because you suck as a gamer? Or...why can it not just let you from the very begining of the game give you an option of having everything unlocked?   Im paying $60 for a game that includes all this wonderful stuff and all these wonderful weapons or tracks and cars only to find that I must meet a certain criteria to actually play with what I just paid for.

Why didnt Peace Walker say on the box that the game has no easy settings?  Why didnt they say it will be harder for those that dont play anything but easy mode?

Im sorry for being so negative but Im playing PW and I have the option to call in a Strike Support.  But I have to actually Place the Strike support Marker!  Uh?  I have to anticipate where the enemy will be and hope they cross the Air Strike?   And then suddenly to call in a  supply box now I have to throw the supply marker.  I seriously think they got it backwards.

Im sorry but my arthritis is acting up and I took 2 pain pills and instead of making me happy it has pissed me off!

So now you see GH has a bad side...a mean streak.

Hey....At least I didnt delete my account!

UPDATE:

Okay, the supply marker that I used where I have to throw it was a new one, a level 2.  I selected it not realizing it was a throwing marker. I still have my placable marker which I will use.  It pays to PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS in this game.

Lol sometimes when i take my pain meds i want to break stuff to lol!!! but seriously i have a 170 games in total and have the reason  have such a huge backlog is well like you said i dont have the skills or pateints to beat em and thats why 75% of my games are rpgs cause games like bayonetta, Dynasty Warriors etc i suck at and will never be good enough to reach the criteria i must reach to unlock gun levels etc some of us are not made for normal mode or hard there should always be an easy setting for gamers whos not as skilled as others just like there should be hard for thoughs of us whe excell in certain games so probably next time you buy a game rent it first check for a demo or borrow someones to make sure  cause if im going to sink $60 into a game you better beleive imngoing to know what exactly im getting or better yet keep the receipt and if you dont like it take it back for another game.

Lee:  I would've bought this game regardless even had I known there was no easy setting but really, the box should tell you everything is not included unless you can meet a certain set of requirements. But anyway, Im still playing PW and I will finish it. Hahahah my pain pills did most (all) of that rant.

My pain pills usually make me happy too but for some reason I just seemed to have gotten madder.  Of course it could've been the game...hahahaha

There, there. Go have another banana. Or maybe a Snickers bar...

I totally get where you're coming from, though.

Peace Walker is a real slow burn. It was designed to be played coop, especially bosses. It was a challenging game from what I can remember, but I accepted the challenge because I figured I couldnt play with a group.

Also Diablo 3 is the same way with locked difficulties. You have to finish it on normal mode, which is super easy before unlocking Nightmare and others, so a second and third play through is forced upon players for finding better loot and challenge. I still play it though.

Your anger is understood.

asrealasitgets:  PW was definitely designed for co-op and that is what makes a single player gamer like me to have such a hard time.  But I will get through it and I am now at that Boss that you posted a photo of....Whoa! that thing is a Monster for sure!    Hahahahahah.  I may take another pain pill for that one  ahahahahahaha

You make some solid (but angry) points here GH, I heard silver gorillas are very dangerous when pissed so i hope those developers take note! I'm not a fan of being forced to play modes I'm not keen on to unlock awesomeness but alas so many seems to do it now. When I first bought Ninja Storm 3 I had to spend almost 20hrs playing the 'adventure mode'...... a whole 12 hrs extra to unlock all the characters and playmodes including survival. I wasn't a happy bunny.

Chunopo:  I really think they should give us an option...they could even penalize us by not letting us earn throphies....something.   I just paid $60 I want to get to enjoy it all.  We silverbacks dont get mad often but when we do......Look Out!  hahahaha

I totally agree. I have had this same issue with the Gran Tourismo games for years. Your have to earn licenses to get access to certain cars, track and races. I have always really liked these games, but I have not always been that good at them, lol. So there is a lot of content I have missed because I'm not an expert at he game. I wanted to beat Mass Effect on normal, but the combat in that game can be completely erratic and unbalenced, I had no choice but to put it on easy, but at least I had the option. I have not played Peace Walker but I remember getting stuck at the very beginning of Metal Gear 3 and it pissed me off pretty good too.

GM78:  I wish they would all do like God Of War. Once when I was playing a part where Kratos was on a convayer and you  have to move a block to a ledge to climb on. the convyer takes you to your death and enemies are hacking ay you too.  I tried and tried and could not do it, then suddenly the convyer stopped and I was able to do it.  The game knew I couldnt do it so it stopped the convyer.

How hard would that be for developers to add that to their game. ?

I can't remember what game it was, but I remember reading about a PS2 game that would adjust its difficulty on the fly deppending on how well you were playing. So its definitely something they are capable of doing.

GM78: It could've been God of War.  That was the game that adjusted for me while I was playing.

I've been using a lot of online guides lately. They make the games easier and quicker to complete and I think they actually make the games more fun. Sometimes I want that flight plan before I play so I can avoid the frustration. Sometimes I don't though because I want to avoid spoilers.

I have ALL the MGS guides. even for the MSX games

I am pretty torn on unlockables. Sometimes it's a good motivational force for me to keep playing and other times it pisses me off too. They are a big reason I've pretty much given up on Mario Kart.

Travis:  Unlockables are fun and give the game an extra play or replay value but my biggest gripe is when I can not advance in the main story mode of a game( Like PURE) because I can not just make that first place on a certain track.  But its all good. Im not mad any more.  Thanks to Pixlbit I can holler and rant and releive my stress  here and not at my wife  hahahaha

Yeah, progression blocks are the worst kind. When you have to replay levels to collect thingamajigs, it can drive me batty. Rayman Origins did that, and that's when I stopped playing.

Never play F-Zero GX on Story Mode ... just don't.

I do like unlocking things in games. Its keeps me playing and looking forward to whats next. However I wish there were alternative ways to unlock games for those of us that suck at the game. I'd say time released is the best way. Don't feel like beating the game on ultra hard to unlock  a character, then simply play the game for 20 hours and it unlocks itself.

If I recall they justify this to ensure you'll replay this game. It's a certain games idea to call it "replayablity". It'll keep you coming back for more and more till you get all you want. It's been done before with fighting games so it's only natural it'll transfer over to other games. It could be worse, you could've bought the game used and they lock all the extras behind an online pass paywall or on disc DLC...

Commissioner Halochief reporting. I'm here to take your Gamer Badge for playing games on easy.

Lol, kidding. I actually hate when games force you to beat the game to unlock other difficulties.

GH! ... it's been so long! Peacewalker is giving you trouble?! If you can beat Metal Gear on MSX, surely you can beat this! Don't let it get you down! There was only one instance that I ever had trouble with PW and it involved a QTE (and button mashing). Keep the faith you big ape!
