The Good, The Bad, The Final Fantasy 14

Well the good is that I was able to get on and play for quite a while this evening, although I did have to wait about ten minute until some people left. The bad happend about 30 minutes ago when the server got stupid and booted me off. There were messages on the log in screen mentioning this was happening accross all the serevers. After several attempts and the same error messages I gave up. I understand that this is likely to happen but it still annoys the crap out of me. One thing for sure I will have zero tollerence for this kind of BS when they start hitting me up for subscrition fees. If I'm gonna pay to play this sucker better be running perfectly and I better be able to play whenever I choose without having to wait.

I would like to play Borderlands 2 to but I'm affraid to boot it up now because the update they released yesterday is glitching the hell out of peoples games. Some have even lost all of their saves. Thing is in regards to that, one of the things the update was supposed to do was block modded equipment, or what some were calling black gear. I have a feeling the people that got hit hard on their saves were packing modded gear.

So I guesse I will just play Smash Bros Brawl or just go to sleep.

So is there a sub for FF14 right now? I would def NOT recommend anyone get the game right now if it's as messed up as you say.

Well here is the deal, I had been playing for probably a good three or four ours before I got knocked off. About an hour or so later I tried to get on and it just said the world was full, not the erro message which was a good sign. I whave been playing on a Japanese server because the western server were not taking new players. Well when I could not get on my Japan server I tried the character I built for the western server Ceroule and amazingly was able to get on. My advice is to wait but don't give up on it if you really wanted to play. I plan to keep everyone informed on how its working. Also Asrealasitgets and Dandichu are on too so I'm sure they'll be offering imput on how things are going.

I'm sure they will fix this eventually, but they're going to lose customers in the process.  They lost me for sure.

I think they just underestimated how many people were going to jump in. But they have been pretty good about fixing things. But they def need to get all the bugs out before they start asking for subscrition fees. I really want to see this game succeed because it really is a lot of fun.

Yeah I really liked it too.  I wish I could play, but I can't justify another subscription.

Yeah, if you pay to play then there is no reason to be dropped. But then again, by now developers know how popular FF is and should be prepared for the numerous gamers that will be playing whether they pay or it's free.

Better to be over prepared than under prepared. But from what I have heard every MMO has had some kind of issue at launch, so I'm trying to be patient.

You all do realize that this is an MMO launch, right? Actually, let me rephrase that. You realize that this is the launch of a game with an online component, right? This happens every time. There will never be as much server demand on a game as there will be in the first couple of weeks. The game isn't "broken" or "a failure". It's an online game with a ton of people trying to get on at the same time. This will all smooth out. Until then, just chill. I haven't even bothered with my copy of XIV this week. I installed it and updated it, and I'll probably start playing it next week.

Now, if there are massive login problems and droppages a month or two from now, by all means start complaining, because that's not normal.

There is also the issue of "camping". Players are logging in early in the morning and staying logged in all day and not even playing because they don't want to be locked out. I've seen tons of people doing this in my games, which is frustrating because SE admitted that they have no way of dealing with this and is not  a priority right now. Alot of people get kicked out of the game their actually playing because the world is full. So yeah, launch.

Well this is my first time playing an MMO, never mind an MMO at lauch. And I have been able to play a lot even if it has mostly been on a Japanese server. So if it seems that I'm being overly pissy or negative its just from my lack of expireince with these kind of games, lol. As for the game it self I have nothing but good stuff to say. It really like nothing I have ever played before.

Have you gotten through any dungeons yet or recieved your first mount? When you start using a bit of strategy during boss fights, and using team work you'll enjoy it a lot more, even the ups and downs of playing with inexperienced players. There is one training boss that you arent supposed to kill, yet everyone takes it out quickly and just yelling NOOOOOOO in chat. When you get your first minion or mount you will feel like a real adventurer riding around Eorzea on your high horse. It gets better.

Yeah, I'm almost lv19. Got first minion and have done 3 dungeons so far. I was playing with random folks from duty finder, but everyone I have palyed with so far has been solid in playing their role. I'm a pugilist so I just run up behind baddies and beat the shit out of them, pretty straight forward strategy,LOL.

Most players are playing free right now for the first 30-days at least. I think even without problems, players are expected to drop out after the first month anyway, as is the case with most MMO launches, most of the population drops off after the first free period. SE probably felt that the pop would drop off after subs hit, thus the lack of servers. I would probably wait a month for the first month free trial players drop off, and everything is normal. I'm not apoligizing for the company. I think they made a terrific game and I'm jumping back and forth between JPN and NA servers if their full. Plus, I have life and stuff, so I only play late at night an thus far have a couple of awesome characters and met cool players because these problems made us bond together. The irony.

Can't wait for Sept. Also, SE is adding more servers soon, so maybe that will help or pissed off players will abandon ship and never return? Who knows? I will go down with the ship! Cool

I know it will get better. I'm just new to all this kind of craziness.

And this is why I'm ok with the fact I've never done much online gaming.

This is my first time playing an MMO, but despite the hic ups I'm really having a lot of fun with it. I have been pretty skeptical of online gaming, mostly just cause I have only heard all the negative stuff.
