I am seriously thinking about buying a 2DS for myself. I can't see the 3D effects due to vision issues and as a frugal yankee born and bred, I just couldn't bring myself to buy something that had a feature I can't use as a major selling point. I think your godson will be very happy to have something cool that his older siblings haven't had first. Everybody deserves to be first for something.
contemplating a 2DS...

Plenty of people see entirely different things when they look at the 2DS. Some see a headache filled holiday season. Some see a questionable business move. Some see an ugly hunk of plastic. Some see a beautiful hunk of plastic. I see an ecstatic 7 year old.
Over the past week I have been tossing around the idea of getting a 2DS for my godson, Andrew. This is a new idea that only surfaced when the 2DS was announced. I was never planning or even thinking about getting him videogames for his birthday or Christmas. Now I am contemplating it... What changed? The price is definitely a part of it. A $40 price difference is pretty significant. Especially since that money can go right into getting a game or two. The last thing you want is new tech and nothing to play with it. The ugly design is definitely another big factor. A lot of the things that were cut, or changed for the 2DS will not matter to him. He will be super excited with just having the device. From everything that I have read, the 2DS is built very solid and should take a beating. Why are people worried about the fact that the 2DS does not close shut? Plenty of toys and gadgets have not had the ability to close shut, but are still around and kicking. I for one still have a bunch of different gameboys lying around that all work, assuming that I have batteries.
I think that he would love having a handheld console, and I apparently am too cheap to get him a proper 3DS. I just think that the 2DS is a little bit more practical. He is child number 3 of 4, and I can somewhat relate to his place in the family. There were just a few more in my family, I was 4 or 7. With an older brother he gets quite a few things second hand and he somewhat lives in a shadow. I think that the 2DS would be an awesome way to get out from that shadow and have the coolest toy(s) in the house.
In other news, I finished two amazing games, Fire Emblem Awakening and Steamworld Dig. I am currently working my way through Link's Awakening and hope to actually finish it this time. My mind is becoming muddled with many thoughts, so I best walk away from the computer for now...
