My Top 10 Futurama Episodes

So one of my all time favorite shows is ending tonight for good: Futurama. I'm really happy with what we got when it came back on. It wasn't quite up to par with what the show was originally like, but it was still one of the better things on television and did a much better job staying funny than The Simpsons, Family Guy, and even South Park have these past few years. There were still some really great episodes and a funny recurring gag where the season finale would always be three weird stories ending with everyone dying. But here's my favorite episodes from this show, the ones that got me hooked on it.

10. Farnsworth Parabox

An alternate universe with them spending time with their other selves making sure neither is the evil version was already a funny premise. But what really makes me love this is when they search through dozens of different universes including a hippie universe is what made this episode for me.

9. Luck of the Fryrish

This is actually a pretty damn funny episode about Fry's brother, but we all know the real reason this earns a spot on everyone's favorite list. The end is just so damn touching.

8. Prisoner of Benda

It's a simple episode done very well. Professor Farnsworth invents a body switching machine and Bender abuses it so he can do evil things. Meanwhile Farnsworth joins a circus in Bender's body, Fry and Leela try to gross each other out in Zoidberg and Farnsworth's bodies, and the rest of the crew just has little side adventures that are all pretty damn funny.

7. Murder on the Planet Express

Just two weeks old, yet Futurama at its best. An Alien spoof which starts out with the funniest opening I have ever seen in Futurama. Seriously, go check this out if you're still not following, I guarantee the first three minutes will have you laughing.

6. Problem with Popplers

The Omicrons were a great race and this was them at some of their funniest. The crew finds a new food which soon becomes Earth's favorite and the Omicrons reveal that it's really their young. Oh, and there's a hippie everyone hates. He's hilarious.

5. Three Hundred Big Boys

Everyone gets a $300 tax return. Shenanigans happen which end up being pretty damn hilarious. Special mention to Zoidberg trying to figure out how to enjoy money and Fry drinking 100 cups of coffee.

4. Roswell that Ends Well

Zoidberg is my favorite Futurama character and this is his absolute best. They accidentally travel back in time to Roswell in the 1950's and the military captures him to figure out why he came to Earth. Every scene with him is incredible as they try to interrogate him and he just wants to be friends. Meanwhile Fry becomes his own grandpa. Which actually ends up being the most important plot point in the series.

3. War is the H Word

The thing that made me really love Futurama was how smartly written it was.  Sure, they'd have Bender say "Bite my shiny metal ass" (which is actually a plot point here), but then there would be math, philosophy, and history jokes all of which took a second or two to sink in on why they're funny. This was the best example in my opinion, such a smartly written but funny episode with so many great Zapp Brannigan and Zoidberg moments as well.

2. Amazon Women in the Mood

Most Zapp Brannigan episodes just took a normal story and had him turn it into one of the funniest things ever. This instead had them crash land on a planet populated by giant Amazon women and with him, Fry and Bender being their usual selves, punsih the men to death by "snu-snu" (read: fucking). And with Fry and Zapp being just as sex crazed as they are deprived, it is something that is funny every single time I watch it. And what better way to end than with this?

1. Jurassic Bark

Like Luck of the Fryrish, this episode is great because of its ending. And yeah, the episode isn't their funniest and what makes it great does not play to Futurama's usual sharp wit and great dialog. But if you have a dog or have ever had one, this episode will make you cry. Because you know what Fry's dog felt is how your dog feels whenever you're away from it even for a second. And that he felt it for that many years, damn it is sad.

My favorite episode is probably Reincarnation which happens to be one of those season finale's that tell three weirds stories.

It did have a good run though. There's no need to keep the show going until it completely runs out of ideas, like many other popular shows.

Reincarnation was fun, but my favorite of those was the holiday special. Had a lot of fun with that one.

Man, I'm so bummed that Futurama is ending again. Nice list - I always have a hard time ordering my favorites because I like so many of them so much. The time machine episode from the new episodes comes to mind as one of my favorites for sure.

I guess we'll see how it ends tonight and if the production crew manages to stand up the show somewhere else in the near future.

The time machine episode is pretty close. Love that tribute to the Year 2525 song.

Awesome list! One of my favorites that didn't make your list is when Bender was a Pharoah. "REMEMBER ME!"

That one was pretty good. Bender centric episodes are usually good at providing the laughs.

Great list. Kinda sad Futurama is ending, but hey, if they creators felt that they had done everything to the show, i'm fine with it. One of my favorite of the modern episodes is the one with the mini Benders. Just hilarious stuff.

I still like that episode, but thought the end was too mean spirited. That alien nerd they killed really didn't do anything wrong until Bender was an ass to him and didn't deserve that. Didn't ruin the episode, but I turn it off once it gets to that part.

Great list.  Number one might have been predictable, but how could it not be?  It was one of the best episodes of any show ever.  It makes me tear up a little just thinking about it.

The only episode that I can think of right now that would bump one of these off on my list is the second episode, The Series has Landed.  Although that episode has a lot of great lines, I would have to include it just because it was the first episode that I saw (although it was a few months after the show had started) and made me fall immediately in love with the show.

I just watched the series finale last night and thought it was very touching and ended the series on a high note.

I had snu snu... one of my favoriates.

I doubt I'd be able to pick out 10 favoriate episodes of this series. The only two that jump out in my mind right now is "Godfellas" and "Where No Fan Has Gone Before". Perhaps not the most funniest but most meaningful to me.
