So gamestop is my favorite gamestore and I have some real good employees at my local store but im feeling guilty and want to know how you all feel about it. So I went to Gamestop and bought a used game and all they had was the game in a generic case and no manual so a few months later I found the same game complete so I bought the game and went home got the same incomplete game and took it back to another Gamestop and got my money back so i feel like I did something wrong but then again I just bought a game that I paid for and exchanging it for a complete game shouldnt be considered wrong right?? Anyway whats your thoughts is it wrong or ok??

I rarely buy a game that is not complete but if I found it complete after getting the non complete one, I would do the same thing.

I personally dont see the whole reason for the complete thing. You can find ten times better artcover  for a case on the net and learning a game by experiancing it has always been a thing for me I mean a manuel can be nice  but not a nesscity. Im not saying its wrong, just dont see a point is all. Its when people use GS as a rental service that their in the wrong. I dont agree with that shit at all. You didnt do that so I wouldnt be worried.

To be honest im very much a collector of games as well and as far as the cover art I do use the sites to make covers for my ps2 games but 360 games I always find the original game eventually but if I really want it I will buy it incomplete and then get the original case and manual, im very much a sticklee when it comes to generic cases lol!!

While I personally don't like using Gamestop, I do believe it is mostly good for the industry. Unlike chains like Walmart, Gamestop is guaranteed to stock games that others won't and at greater quantities. The trade in program as well utimately will make you spend more money on games in the long run. I mean how many times can you walk into a game store and not eventually make an impulse purchase?

I've done that more times than I can count, Rodney. I've even gone in with my copy of the game and receipt and asked them if I could swap it for a complete version. They gladly do it for me without issue.

I'm actually stalking down a complete copy of Infinite Undiscovery right now because the version I got from GameStop is in a broken generic case and I hate those damn things with a passion.

Yeah, if you paid for a copy and got their permission it sounds perfectly fine. It's not like you just snuck in and switched out the boxes when they weren't looking or something.

As to whether or not Gamestop is okay? As long as the industry keeps coddling them with stuff like pre-order bonuses and exclusivity, while taking advantage of their promotion and store presence around the world, they have no right to complain. If they really hate retail so much, they should do something decisive about it. Better than half-assing it and trying to have it both ways, like we saw with the Xbox One policies (which many in the industry supported).

Like Nick said, I just ask them for the original packaging and they are usually happy to hook u up, I've even gone into a different GameStop and told them when I bought the game they told me I could have the original case and manual when they get it, I have some generic cases for games I bought in my car and if I see the original case in a store i just ask to swap, don't even have to do an exchange in the register.

Its really no skin off their back , they will just sell it to someone who does care if it has the case or manuel. I would do the same thing if I were not so lazy, lol.

I love GameStop.  I have a few friends that work there, so I get to learn a few things about GS' rules & policies.

I like to have my games complete too, so I've run into your problem before.  What I do is when I already own the game incomplete and I see a case & manual later in the store, I ask the store manager if I can have the case & manual.  GS doesn't make money off the case & manual, they make money off selling the game.  That's the reason why the case and manuals are out on the shelves and "complete" games aren't more expensive than "incomplete" games.  You save yourself the trouble of having to rebuy and return/resale a game you already own.  If the employees in at the store know you as a loyal customer, then you shouldn't have any problems.  They're not breaking any laws or anything letting you have the case & manual.  They do have to make a new fake case for the game they hadn't sold yet though and that takes all of 3min. Laughing

I do that too, and I don't think GameStop cares. I've had some employees bring out multiple copies and have me pick which case, disc, and manual I want for a Frankenstein'd complete copy. I see it as if you're cool with the employee, they'll try to hook you up.

The one thing I don't care for is when they try to give you a generic case and use the "this case is for display". They tried that with me a couple of times, I refused to buy the game, and by "magic" they find a complete copy.

Or they swap the display case for one with massive sticker damage on it. I always fuss till they give me the nice one.

I see no problems here. I've even had times when the GS employee offered to call other stores and find one with the case I needed, which was really nice of them.

I don't think you did anything wrong, and I still technically work there. You already bought the game from them. You didn't cheat them out of any money. I think you shouldn't worry at all.
