Great game. Great soundtrack. I listen to it sometimes. I need to play the game again.

Probably the best game on Wii, Super Mario Galaxy is a tremendous 3D platformer accompanied with astounding music. This was the first Mario game to have a fully orchestrated soundtrack (by a real orchestra) and the end result is beautiful, majestic, and awesome! Mahito Yokota was in charge of the orchestra, composing many of the themes along with Koji Kondo. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is an equally impressive game with an equally impressive sountrack (if not better), but today we're just going to look at the first game's soundtrack. I would hope that if you own a Wii, you've played this game. Nintendo Power named it "Game of the Decade," and the incredible music helps it to fit that spot.
Majestic Mario
Galaxy's soundtrack takes Mario music to new heights as some of the themes are majestic, sounding nothing like Mario music. Yet the beautiful music fits with the fantastic space scenes and pretty planets like a hand in a glove. Good Egg Galaxy will introduce you to the main theme of the game; it will then be expanded upon in Gusty Garden Galaxy, easily the best theme in the game. It's a beautiful main theme. The Comet Observatory gives you a soothing waltz to enjoy. You've never heard music like this in a Mario game before!
Retro Themes Brought to Life
Galaxy takes some of our favorite Mario themes and breathes new life into them. Classic Mario is the original SMB theme we all know and love, energized with a beaty feel. Classic Challenge is the theme from SMB3. But the best ones would have to be Bowser's Fleet (from SMB3) and Bowser's Domain (from SM64). The prior is fully orchestrated and gives that foreboding feel to the classic Mario villain; the latter is upgraded slightly, but doesn't deviate much from the original. Still, it's awesome to hear these themes reinvigorated, and SMG2 would do the same thing with other classic themes.
Just Beautiful
Some of the themes are just beautiful, such as Space Junk Galaxy, which has a soothing piano and a spacy feel to it. A Sad History is a sad yet beautiful theme which tells the story of Rosalina and the lumas. Storytime is a great theme that plays out with a beautiful zylophone. It's simple yet a work of genius, which is easy to relax to and enjoy. Galaxy is a beautiful game in every department, not just the music. The graphics, the story, the lumas, and the music are all beautiful.
Grand Galaxy Themes
The themes for many of the galaxies are great, varying depending on the setting and location. Beach Bowl Galaxy gives off a great sunshine-y beach theme, while Melty Molten Galaxy has a hot volcano-like theme to it. Ghostly Galaxy is a neat creepy theme, featuring a solo violin that does a great job of making the song feel foreboding and ominous. Gear Galaxy and Buoy Base Galasy are both exciting themes. Honey Hive Galaxy has a natural sound to it, while Dusty Dune Galaxy sounds Egyptian and desert-like. Suffice to say, the themes for the galaxies are perfect and fit the game to a tee.
Bad Guy Boogies
Bowser is the villain of the game (what a surprise), and he gets some great themes. I've already mentioned a couple classic themes that were reinvigorated for the baddie. On top of that, there's Bowser's Galaxy Reactor, a fantastic final level theme which is exciting and ominous at the same time; I love the trumpets. Bowser Jr. also appears in the game. You'll fight him in a giant mech; the music is at first is slow, but once you hit him, the music will speed up and become a great boss theme in the game. Mini Boss Scramble is an energetic theme that plays during a mini boss; it's definitely one of the craziest themes in the game.
The Credits!
The in-game music is fantastic, but once you defeat Bowser and the adventure is over, you'll be treated to the best song in the whole soundtrack: the Ending Credits! This piece is majestic, beautiful, and exciting. It plays for a solid four minutes, and is done masterfully. Wow, and this is in a Mario game? Incredible! Galaxy did something which no Mario game had done before, and it did it with great style and genius. SMG2 was just as amazing, and I'm hoping that SMG3 will come out for the Wii U in the near future with just as astounding music.
