I am taking a break.

I have made a decision, not a knee jerk one, but a long thought out one. My views have differed greatly from the mass collective here and I feel it is time to back away from this forum, and give my opinions on games that are coming up, that I extremely dislike, and for the regurgitation of old games that were good in there time a rest. I hate where gaming is going now and I am really disturbed by mindless following of certain brands. Really it has been fun here I just can not do it any more right now. I am not renewing my rewards cards nor am I buying any new games. So until I find interest again or I.... Well I will at least read  the responses to this post. I may not comment.

Later.

I'm a little confused. You're tking a break frompixlbit because you're opinion differs from peoples? I understand wanting to take a break from gaming when things seem to be getting stale, but with the first part, conflicting opinions aren't bad unless you're dealing with assholes.

I can kind of understand in some reguards. Despite the news, hype and prospects of what is to come later this fall, I've found myself indifferent to it. Not even the talk of the 2DS and Vita TV and the drops of the Xbox One/PS4 interest me.

Hope you swing by and at least read up on my coming fall activities. Tucker and Dale vs Evil is because of you!

I will try.

Hey, go retro. I wanna hear about old games too. New games can be a drag sometimes when they are obvious cash-ins or rip-offs of styles already explored. I'm not much into the new systems Xbone, PS4 right now either, but I can't wait to play Pikmin on Wii-U and Dragon's Crown on PSV. Something will come along eventually in the next gen to get excited about.

Or go Indie. So many interesting, creative things are being done there right now. Also, how can you quit now just before GTAV comes out? It's going to be epic and I'm not even a fan of GTA games!

I am going retro, just current topics here have pushed me away.

I have little to no idea what you are talking about.  Your views differ from the "mass collective"?  Nothing wrong with having a different opinion.  Also, I don't think our collective is all that massive.  Which makes it easier to commune through our disagreements.  Well...., whatever you feel is best.

I hope you decide to stay. As mothman said (sort of), it's our differences that make us interesting. But I think a lot of us share your frustration with the game industry and I know there is a lot of love for old games here too. And I think you post a lot of interesting stuff, so it'd be sad to see you go.

That sucks dude but you gotta do what you gotta do. I like disagreement in a well responded way and you do that well so it will be a shame to see you leave.

Homelessrook

09/14/2013 at 10:06 PM

Some do not see it that way. I guess I am out of touch because I do not fall prey to all the tactics of the industry. I guess people love wasting money. Thank you though for the response.

I don't like the direction video games are headed either, which is why lately I've been getting into retro gaming (that, and I found a bunch of old retro stores around where I live). I hope you won't leave pixlbit forever; sure, take a break, but we all hope you come back and get rolling again.

"I am really disturbed by mindless following of certain brands"

Granted, I don't get a chance to read everything posted here buy I feel this site has nil of this compared to some otheres.   Are you sure posted this to the correct site?

Anyways, hope you find what you are looking for out there.  The internet is a big place and something is bound to hold your interest.

Larry, what are you on about? I'm as confused as several others as to where this is coming from. There are enough people who like retro games on this site to make blogging about them interesting. I already miss Punk Tuesday, by the way. So everyone doesn't like the same games, big deal. So you're a little annoyed with Nintendo right now, I get that. Doesn't mean I have to agree and I think we agreed to disagree in a pretty civil manner. I'm not renewing my Gamestop rewards card either, I have found better places to buy games that also sell a huge selection of retro games locally, so Gamestop won't be seeing any more of my money, either. And like you, not much about the next gen excites me. So we can be old farts together and yell at the kids to get off our lawn. John might join us, if we offer him comic books.

Tami, I just can not post on here anymore right now. I fear if I do the right side of my page will be blank.

If it appears that the industry is moving in a direction that you're not comfortable with, it's worth considering that it just might seem that way because you are no longer part of its target audience. I'm not saying that it's all wine and roses. There's a lot to complain about. It's just that I've read your blogs, and you seem to complain an awful lot about things that you should know are clearly not meant for you, which have no bearing on you or your gaming habits whatsoever, and which could be dealt with by simply chosing to ignore them. Just kinda seems to me like you're causing yourself a whole lot of unnecessary stress is all.

Anyway, it's pretty clear that you're taking all of this a bit too seriously, so for your own sake, I think you're making the right choice. While you're gone, you could maybe work on handling other people's opinions better, because while you may well regain an interest in the hobby somewhere down the line, you're never going to live in a world where everyone's gonna agree with you all of the time. And let's be real here, that's what's really bothering you, aint it? Your characterization of the community as a "mass collective" kinda makes that obvious.

So yeah, I hope that your time away is positive whatever you end up doing.

So, Basicly you are saying I am old and out of touch? Thanks, Dick.

Cyberxion

09/15/2013 at 06:07 AM

No, I don't think that you're old and out of touch. I was trying to get across to you that you appear to the cause of the majority of your problems, only I was trying to avoid being a prick about it out of consideration for you.

Look, Larry. You're the one who choses to fixate on fairly inconsequential things, and it's you who chooses to take it personally when you could just as easily ignore it. I feel like you could save yourself a lot of frustration by coming to terms with the fact that much of what you complain about was never meant for you in the first place.
For example, you're not the target market for the virtual console service, but why complain about its existence when there are folks out there to whom it is legitimately appealing? Not everything is meant for you, and not everything that doesn't appeal to you is inherently worthless. And for that matter, the folks to whom it does appeal aren't necessarily sheep. So why not just ignore it and save yourself the frustration? That's all that I was getting at, man.

Anyway, enjoy your break. Hope you come back somewhere down the line, and with a renewed enthusiasm. Like some folks have already said, there's a lot of interest in retro stuff, so you could always stick to covering that if all else fails.

Homelessrook

09/15/2013 at 09:12 AM

I am a gamer, so yes I am the target audience. It is my right as a person that wants to purchase games and consoles to have a voice about the crap the market puts out. If I do not have an opinion about something I do not comment. Anyway thank you for the nice part of your comment.

One last thing, you do not follow me and I do not follow you. So why is what I say so important to you enough to comment on my post, when obviously it has nothing to do with you.

Cyberxion

09/15/2013 at 09:10 PM

You made it about me and every other member of the site when you chose to stupidly categorize the entire Pixlbit communtiy as being a "mass collective" and mindless followers of brands just because a couple of people disagreed with you at some point in the past. It was a petty, arrogant thing to do, and it's why I chose to comment.

What's so fucked up is that in spite of how much of a dick you came across as being for generalizing the entire community in such an insulting way, I was sincerely just trying to help you out. When other folks might have told you to fuck yourself, I tried to give you some helpful advice instead, and I even went out of my way to frame it as inoffensively as possible out of consideration for you. Yet here we are. You'd think that I called you a self-absorbed, socially-maladjusted man-child for the way you've chosen to react.

As for why I bothered, it's partly because against all odds I actually felt a little bad for you, but it's mostly because there are folks here who consider you a friend who want you to stick around. I just figured that if I could help you out, maybe you'd get over this shit and stick around, if not for your sake, then for theirs. Yeah, as it turns out, i'm not actually a dick after all. Go figure.

Anyway, I'm sincerely sorry that I bothered, Larry. If you wanna give yourself an ulcer over inconsequential shit that's clearly not intended for you, then go right ahead.

Homelessrook

09/16/2013 at 09:40 AM

Well, you could have avoided this argument by not trying to be the site psychologist. Even with your great care "not" to come across as a dick, you failed terribly. If I did not know better I would feel like I was being trolled. I do have some good friends on here, they get me. You on the other hand apparently do not know me well enough to know how I really feel about the people on this site. I have put a lot of time and effort each week to bring things to the forum. So, thanks but no thanks for your unneeded unsolicited help.

Cyberxion

09/23/2013 at 04:05 AM

I'm not sure that I understand how suggesting something so obvious amounts to being a dick, Larry. In fact, out of all the folks with whom I've discussed the possibility, you're the only one to have taken offense to it. I kinda feel like if that reflects poorly on anyone here, it aint me.

What does reflect poorly on me is the conclusion that I came to after putting a few days between myself and this debacle, which is that while I may have sincerely set out to help you, I feel like the the message was probably muddled by the tone of my criticism of your ability to handle other people's opinions, which was in direct response to the gigantic dump that you took on the entire Pixlbit community in your farewell post. I should have been better than that, and I wasn't, and for that much I apologize.

Okay, so I am no longer welcomed here. I got it.

ThatKidOverThere

09/14/2013 at 12:46 PM

I too dont really like the general direction games are going in now, but then again, that's what drives me to look for alternative solutions, such as games that I find interesting myself that, frankly, most of my good friends wouldnt be caught dead playing. Regardless, whatever it is that you decide to do, it's probably for the best. Wherever you go, there are always gonna be people who disagree with you, but I think that the great part about that is that there will always be someone who agrees with you, too, even if you're in the minority.
