Quick Hits With Chris

Hello Pixlbit! It’s is a nice Friday here on my side of the World Wide Web, and I thought I’d try something new. Instead of having one long blog once a week, I thought about having a shorter blog towards the end of the week to take care of some minor stuff, any cool stuff found, and what not. I thought I’d call these blogs “Quick Hits With Chris”

Anything Interesting?

Humble Bundle

I’m not a PC gamer, but I do occasionally try and play some PC games. I started noticing a lot of these Humble Bundle sales, which I thought are really interesting. You can name your own price for a bunch of games, and some of that money goes to charity. It’s a win-win for everyone. Developers get their games/names out to the public, Charities get some cash, and gamers can discover new stuff. I started following them on Twitter because every so often I guess they have other media. I think the last one I saw was a bunch of comedy albums. I think at some point I’ll participate and buy a bundle

Brix Gaming PC

Engadget Article

I saw this on Flipboard (if you have a tablet or a smart phone, Flipboard is one of my favorite news aggregate apps that acts like a magazine) and thought it was interesting. It’s a gaming PC you connect to your TV, and play with a controller. I would be interested in this console/PC.

Fantasy Football

Week 2 started for my team Cell Block 81, and after a crazy Arena Football-like game where I lost by percentage points (Damn You Peyton Manning!) my second game had a rocky start because I had one of Tom Brady’s WR’s and well that receiving corps couldn’t a cold in that rain last night. Hopefully the other players will pick up the slack and I can get a W this week.

What I’m Playing

Madden 25

I picked it up earlier this week, and I like it. There are some differences compared to NCAA, but I like it. I had to get use to the new names of the game modes for Franchise Mode, but I am two games in with the Jacksonville Jaguars (how do you not like those odd helmets?) and I am having fun. I’m gonna try and get Tebow.

Simpsons Tapped Out

There was an update a couple of days ago, and I leveled up to Level 35

With the update there were a couple of new characters including Patty and Selma, and new premium characters Disco Stu and Chub Chub. I wanted to see some new items for Krustyland, but oh well, maybe next update. I can’t complain, Disco Stu is in Springfield!

Pickups! Pickups! Pickups!

Thrift Stores

There was a sign at the first thrift store because I saw the original Playstation on a shelf for $20 with one controller (it wasn’t the one with the audiophile CD Player) I went ahead and searched through their CD section (some teen girl realized her taste was crap and donated her collection of Bieber. Good for you teen girl!) When checking out I looked down into the glass case and spotted a handful of NES games, but there were two that were separated and I went after those

They were a little steep at $6 each, but it’s rare to see classic plastic now, especially the Tengen carts. I haven’t tried them yet, but I hope they work without blowing on them. Props to the former owner for keeping the Funcoland cardboard dust jacket.

I spotted a Wii DJ Hero turntable at Goodwill, but no other video game stuff

I saw this while record digging at Goodwill. It was cheaper new than used at Goodwill.

My CD finds at two thrift stores, and the new Earth Wind & Fire from Target.

Yeah I bought John Cena’s CD, to add to my collection of WTF albums (current group has David Hasselhoff, Brian Austin Green, and Joey Lawrence. I wish I would have bought the sealed Kevin Federline album for $1). I can’t wait to run into a Deion Sanders album.

Some Classical and Marching Band music to add to the vinyl library.

On a whim, I decided to visit a pawn shop to se if they had any video games. They didn’t but they wanted a $130 for a used Wii (I saw it for $129.99 at Best Buy) but they had a small section of DVDs/Blu-ray’s and in that group I found

For $2 sealed. During the summer one of the cable channels would always play two episodes of WKRP in Cincinnati, and I got hooked. I thought it was hilarious, and jumped all over Season 1.

I finished off the Disney Infinity Starter Set yesterday, and I wanted to give the Cars playset a try before a certain GTA is released

I picked up the playset along with the two additional characters. I’m probably an hour in, and I like the game. It seems to be more fun than Monsters University. I doubt I will pick up Lone Ranger because I don’t care for the storyline.

Well that’s my first “Quick Hits With Chris” blog. It was cool, hopefully I can keep this up.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

It's like we watch the same shows, love Night Court. That was such a cool show because the cast of characters were so good together.

You know 3rd Rock and Seinfeld had hit and miss episodes for me. I thought both were good, but I wouldn't put up as one my favorites. We almost had the same tastes in television shows.

I like what I've seen of WKRP. Might want to watch more of it, especially since I manage a radio station. Since it's public service and student run, not quite the same thing, but y'know.

WKRP is good stuff. I bet some of your experiences managing a radio station might be similar to those on the show (except for some of the over the top stuff), but I get ya.

I want Disney Infinity for jack from nightmare before christmas. Which is also why im hestitant to buy it, I dont wanna pay soo much for one character especially if i dont really like it. I do like Skylanders but idk.

I haven't played Skylanders but from what I've been told it's Disney's version of Skylanders. I saw that Jack is being released but I was a little iffy because it's not a full playset for him. I say buy the figure for $12 bucks, and try someone's copy of the game. If you don't like the game, at least you get a cool little statue.

That BRIX gaming PC looks pretty cool. If it can do Steam and Good Old Games stuff, I want it.

I'd like to see a review of it, but the overall concept sounds really good and could get back into PC gaming.

The thing that sucks about Goodwill in my neck of the woods is that it's within a stone's throw of the local retro game store. So instead of dropping their old gaming stuff off at Goodwill, people take it in to the retro joint, and I end up spending $20 on a copy of Megaman 5. :P

That does suck. I'm lucky to be in a small town where the only game store is GameStop, and the local mom & pop CD spot no longer takes games (I found a bunch of longboxes there). The one thing similar to your situation is the local swap meet, where everyone selling games thinks they are eBay or everything is worth retail ($10 SMB on the NES)

Last week in my fantasy football league, the guy with Payton Manning absolutely killed it lol. I think the final score ended up about 130-30.

Damn. I thought that was going to happen to me, but the players on my team kept scoring, and made it interesting.

Yay WKRP, one of my favourite sitcoms of all time. The episode where they throw turkeys out of a helicopter is so hilarious. "As God is my witness I thought turkeys could fly" LOL

The Humble Bundles have sucked me in 3 times so far. It's a great deal.

Oh that episode is comedy. One of my favorites is the one where Johnny Fever was taking part in a study and his reaction time would get faster as he drank more alcohol.

I'm putting off jumping into the Humble Bundle as long as possible because I know once I start, it's downhill and my backlog grows.

Fever is my hero. LOL

Also, the Humble bundle will grow before the end. That's ok though because if you paid more than the average which is usually a pittance you get anything that they add.

Gotta agree about the Hoff. If I ever run into his albums from Germany I'm buying them!
