I LOVE Death Grips. I think they and Clipping have kept in interested in modern hip hop.

Get Got - Death Grips
This song seems to me like what would happen if radiohead did rap. It's weird, yeah, but also catchy as balls and a lot of fun.
Apt. A - Clouddead
Continuing the weird train a bit, here's clouddead. They're more about atmosphere than lyricism, though, so if you're expecting anything more than obscure babble that may or may not mean something, look elsewhere.
Pigeon - Cannibal Ox
This song samples "Portrait of Tracy" by Jaco Pastorious, who is like the fucking greatest Jazz Bassist out. That's reason enough for this track to be awesome. The lyrics and flow on this track elevate it to another level.
Blood on the Leaves - Kanye West
As a lyricist, Kanye is average at best. As a producer, he is unmatched. A musical tour de force in hip hop who doesn't give a fuck and just does what he wants. His newest album is awesome, and even competing with a new Queens of the Stone Age album it didn't leave my car stereo for like a month. This song should be terrible. It's a return to his autotune days. The lyrics are garbage. However, the music, the atmosphere, the sample... it's all simply breathless. It builds and builds and then explodes. It's simply a masterful track.
Good Kid M.A.A.D. City - Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick deserves every ounce of fame he is receiving. He is simply the best lyricist I've heard in recent years, and his message is such a breath of fresh air for mainstream hip hop. It's one about thug life, sure, but it's about how everyone else grew up in that life and he wanted nothing from it, but succame to it when around his friends. This album tells a story when listened to from start to finish, and honestly, there is no other way to listen to these songs than in the order they're supposed to appear.
There. That's enough for now. What do you think of these? What hip hop artists do you recommend?
