30 Years of More that Meets the Eye

30 years ago saw the release of what probably was the coolest toys ever made and no not G.I. Joes or He-Man. I'm talking about the Transformers. Alot of you may know about the transforming robots either through the cartoons, toys, comics, or more better through the big budget Michael Bay movies. No matter what your entry point in the property was, all that matters is that it's the story of giant sentient rival robot factions fighting to the fate of their planet Cybertron, our world, and the universe. Because whoever wins in the war dceides the fate of both worlds and the universe.

The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime leads his team to bring peace to Cybertron and the universe, while the villainous Decepticons are led by the diabolical Megatron to take over Cybertron and terminate anyone who get in their way. This has been the story of the Transformers since their creation back then, sometimes the mythos/story get's a few changes but it's always the same at it's core; Autobots vs. Decepticons, good vs. evil, Optimus Prime vs. Megatron.

The cartoon was actually infact, a 30 minute advertisement to sell the toys. Back at the time Hasbro was looking to bring some toys from Japan and some toys from Takara caught their eye. Toys consisted of the Microman and Diaclone line, as well as some from Bandai. Hasbro bought the molds for the toys, rebranded them for American sales and boom, the Transformers were born. It's also a reason why some Trasnformers didn't look like they belonged in the cartoon, and why some characters had different names than the toys. Also it was partly due to licensing issues. So yeah, the cartoon was advertising all the different toys that you can get. Call it shameless advertising but it infact created something new, I mean you had action figures and toy cars at the time, why not combine both?

Transformers has always been a favorite franchise of mine, as a toyline and a cartoon that mean to advertise a toyline. I wasn't born in that era but I know who the original bots and cons are, and I have been buying some toys lately. I'm pretty sure some of you that were around in the 80's either still have your toys, you don't but wish you had, or still buy from the current cartoon/toyline. You're never too old for toys or to have fun.

And this is where the fun comes in, this year is the 30th anniversary of the Transformers and on September 17th, it will be the anniversary of the G1 cartoon as well. So I pitched in the idea of celebrating thr anniversary with our community manager and the idea got thr green light.

So in honor of Transformers week, I invite everyone to join in on the fun. "But Optimus err Captain, how do we join?"

Glad you asked! You can join by simply blogging about your favorite cartoons, comics, toys and/or show your collection, games, memories, and movies. I'll be joining too, I'll be covering my favorite cartoons, games, toys, the 86 movie, memories, and the live action movies, so hope to see you join, Till All are One!
