the image of you driving in the car listening to Madonna is pretty hilarious -- which album was it?
have you found a job for the off season yet?

Since my last update, I've spent a lot of time on the road, five hundred miles added to my odometer since Friday. One baby shower and a wedding later, I'm exhausted and looking forward to a day of vegging out on the couch. Which I can do now that Bill the Contractor has finished in my bathroom. I should have taken before and after photos, but I didn't. It's very nice now, and I'm glad it's done.
Playing: Not much, but I did go to The Game Box yesterday and sold a DS game that I was never going to play and bought Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix. I'm experiencing buyer's remorse at the moment, but hey, I can always give it to one of the nephews for Christmas. I'm hoping to get back into AC II today, I've been missing Renaissance Italy. I did play through Journey twice more and got the last of the trophies I was missing and made a couple of new friends on PSN. I've got a blog entry in the works on that, by the way.
Reading: Not been doing much of that lately, either. I think I want to re-read The Name of the Wind and then read the second book. But it's also getting close to my annual re-read of The Lord of the Rings, too. We'll see what happens.
Listening: With so much time in the car, I've been listening to lots of stuff. Nothing new, just some old faves: Carleen Carter, Madonna, Beausoleil, Jed Marum, Andy M. Stewart, The Corries, Reggie Miles, Midnight Oil, and The Don Campbell Band. Little bit of everything on that road trip, lol.
Watching: Working my way through CSI: NY on Netflix, Season 9 of NCIS on DVD, watched Dororo, Solomon Kane, Hugo, and the original 1932 version of The Mummy to name a few movies. Mostly, I start watching things and then fall asleep. Those I actually stayed awake for.
Ranger Stuff: Mostly getting maintenance things done. I have ten days before I get laid off for the winter and I'm trying to get as much accomplished as I can before I go. We've had a bunch of schools come for nature programs, so that's been fun.
Matt, it was the True Blue album. Only because I forgot Like A Prayer at home, lol. And no, no job lined up yet. I'll start looking after I get back from my trip to Maryland at the beginning of October. I live in a town full of outlet stores, so I should be able to find something. I may not like it, but it will be a job.
Wow you have been busy busy busy lol!! Im pretty sure you wont have a hard time finding a job you seem to be very intelligent so im sure you will and playing AC2 sounds pretty good I have been meaning to pkay that but with GTA 5 out it may be a few since that game is crazy good but I di want to play it.
I haven't been gaming this week yet Tami. I still have Borderlands in the tray and I've been doing a tough New Game+ playthrough but I haven't made time to make any progress this week, and the number one reason is The Name of the Wind.
I remember you saying it's slow to start but grabs hold of you just a little ways into the book and doesn't let go. I've heard people say the pacing is fabulous and it's hard to put the book down, and this week I've seen all of that and more. I usually start reading after dinner and put down maybe a hundred to 150 pages each night before I go to bed, and literally the only reason I stop is because I know I can't stay up all night during the week. It almost pains me to put it down and try to find a natural stopping point. There never feels like a natural stopping point. It's masterfully written and the pacing is so fast I never want to stop. I've never read a book that makes me wish there were more hours in the day to continue reading it. This past week that I've been reading it my mind has utterly been wrapped up in Kvothe and his story, and sometimes I've woken up with Rothfuss' prose and lines of the writing in my mind. I really enjoy the way he describes things and presents the scenes and events of the story.
Right now I'm at this point where Kvothe just earned his pipes playing his lute at a music club in the city of Imre outside the University, and he just came across Denna again. It's been a really heartbreaking story so far but often in the most inspiring way. I was torn apart by what happened to his troupe at the beginning of the story. Rothfuss got me to care and love Kvothe's parents and his troupe in a pretty short amount of time. Then the bullies did horrible things to him in Tarbean when he lived off the streets, but there were always uplifting moments I cherished like when the shoe craftsman in Tarbean gave him a free pair of shoes, or the last time he saw Trapis the old man priest who takes care of the orphans and sickly. This is quite a powerful story that's unfolding so far.
Glad you're enjoying it! Like I said, it may be my favorite book of the last ten years, along with American Gods. My favorite book seller recommended it to me, and then the store closed and I was really sad, as Kath had turned me on to so many of my favorite books. I recently found out that she and her parents are opening a new independent book store called Letterpress Books. They're holding an indiegogo camapign, which of course I helped with. Need my favorite book dealer back in business!
