Jumping on the Breaking Bad bandwagon

I put this show on my Netflix Instant Queue a couple years ago and never got around to watching it. Now, with the series finale airing this Sunday, I've decided to binge through all 5 seasons in time to avoid having the show spoiled for me.

It's not that I wasn't interested in the show. I'd heard so many good things about it that the law of averages practically demanded that the show would be at least tolerable. Now, after making it through to season 3 episode 7 as of right now, I have to admit that the show deserves even more praise than it's gotten.

I know that generally, dramatic television shows are meant to have contracts or guarantees of 5 years if they're picked up after the first season. With the ever increasing amount of serialized storytelling in television, this is probably the best use of those 5 seasons that I've seen. Things are so tightly plotted and seasons constructed to flow perfectly into each other. What seem to be innocuous comments or events turn into something much bigger and pay off careful viewership.

I hate myself for delaying this long and am already missing this show, though I'm only halfway through the show's run.

I think you're lucky that you waited so long to start watching it. I love being able to binge watch an entire series for the first time, and this would be great series to do that with. Some of my favorite series of all time I didn't discover until after they were over. I kind of wish that I had held off watching Breaking Bad until it ended. I started watching it in its second season, so I only had one season that I could quickly watch, and then I had to start waiting between episodes, and then waiting between seasons.

One of the interesting things about the pacing of this show is during the binging, I might start getting bored or at least disliking the pace of the last few episodes, but then something big happens that makes me sit up and watch more without even really making a decision. I wonder if the creators had binging in mind when they breakdown the seasons.
