Castlevania! I could never beat those games.
*Not* an NES update

Hmm... this is apparently only the 15th blog I've written since I came here to PixlBit. I don't know what it is, but something about writing here is different from when I was over at 1UP. I don't mean that as a slight against the community or the people who run this site, but... well, I suppose real life has been getting in the way. That, and games on systems other than the NES...
One of my more recent pursuits has been finishing Final Fantasy VI. I've been playing the PS1 version, since that's what I happen to own, even though the loading times do bog things down a bit. Regardless, I'm still enjoying it, for the most part... although I feel like the difficulty has been a bit on the easy side. In comparison to Final Fantasy V, everything seems to be streamlined and balanced in such a way that the frequent opportunities to change your party setup won't leave you grossly underpowered or lacking in good magic abilities. The problem is, though, that you can often spam the special abilities of certain party members - or sometimes even the regular attacks - and get through a lot of the battles without too much effort. The game has been starting to bare its teeth a little more now that I'm in the "second half" (or final third, really) of the game.
Still, I'm beginning to think that the changes in combat from Final Fantasy V were not necessarily for the better. Final Fantasy VII, though, seems to take the excesses of VI and multiply them by several orders of magnitude... but that's for another blog entirely. Maybe I should switch my focus back to Final Fantasy reviews, and go back and revise some of my old ones...
...or I could do the same for the classic Castlevania entries, since, you know, it's October and all. Preferences, anyone?
Of course, that's all contingent on whether or not I update this thing...
