Games Beaten

-Mirror's Edge (360)

I enjoyed this game a lot. It does disappoint in some areas (like combat and story resolution) but it manages to transcend the sum of its parts and become a captivating experience. If you've played it and haven't listened to the Backloggers Anonymous podcasts yet, I'd definitely recommend doing that. They bring up a lot of things that never occurred to me while playing the game.

-New Super Mario Bros. U (WiiU)

I wish I had enough friends to play this with but my wife and I still had a good time with it. What stinks in the post-game, though, is that you need all the Star Coins from a given world to unlock its Star Road stage, so we've only played the first Star Road level. Not sure if we'll go back to try and get all the Star Coins though. Some of those are really difficult!

-Galaga Legions DX (PS+) (PSN)

My favorite part of this arcade update is the fifth level of every area, where you convert a bunch of bad guys to help you. They become your "legion," I guess, and then you just blow everything up in seconds. It's awesome!

Games Bought

Oh man, there were a whole bunch in September...

-Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (360)

My wife likes these big western-style fantasy RPGs but to me they look pretty boring. My apologies to those of you who like this game (and I know there are a bunch who do) but it just does not look compelling.

-Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection (PS+) (PS3)

I have Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii and really like it, so I snagged this since it includes Darkside Chronicles but I can't help but wonder: Will I ever have a PlayStation Move to play this with?

-Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (PS+) (PSP)

-Metal Slug XX (PS+) (PSP)

These two PSP games have been sitting on PS+ for a while now. Not sure why I hadn't grabbed them before, so I went ahead and got them.

-Trine 2: Complete Story (Mac)

-Mark of the Ninja (Mac)

-FTL: Faster Than Light (Mac)

-FEZ (Mac)

-Eets Munchies (Mac)

These five games came in Humble Bundle 9. FTL was the kicker for me, though I'm pretty excited for the others too. Well, except Eets Munchies. Don't know what the heck that game's about lol

-MediEvil II (PS1)

I've heard of these games but don't really know anything about them. Hey, it was a dollar.

-Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)

Best Buy offered this for $20 for just one day on their website. My wife, the bargain meister, snapped that up, of course.

-Ico (PS+) (PS3)

Looking forward to trying this famous "See? Games are art!" game.

-Galaga Legions DX (PS+) (PSN)

Hey look! I got a game and played it in the same month. It does happen Wink

-Alpha Protocol (PS3)

-Homefront (360)

These two were 50% off at GameStop. Paid just $7 for both.

-Batman: The Brave and the Bold (DS)

My wife found this at a consignment sale amidst all the baby and kids clothes. My brother played the Wii version and really liked it, so I figure this will be pretty fun.

Now Playing

-Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS)

I can't have much farther to go in this game. I'm at 45 hours of play time and have reached the end of the mini strategy guide included with the game. I've really enjoyed it though. I'm curious to see how the story will shake out too. What will become of Tokyo?

Ima bargain meister! :D Haha. Yeah I'm not digging DD too much right now, but I'm determined to finish the dang thing. It's way too Skyrim-ish only not as pretty. Bring on Dragon Age: Inquistion!

Yeah yeah, more fantasy. Where are the space aliens?

The day they (Bioware, that is) make a Mass Effect series successor, I will play it. Okay, maybe not that day....but maybe that year.

Medievil II for a buck!? You got a great deal! Those games are definitely great, so I'd say you done good.

I went a little game buying crazy this past month myself. Didn't spend much, but I did get a boatload of games. Gamestop's been dumping low priced stock via some great sales and I've really bolstered my PS3 and Wii collections as a result. Might grab a few more DS games in the current B2G1 if I can figure out who has what.

The last time I was in GameStop I got just those two games but I saw another 5 or 6, easy, that I'd love to have for $10 or less. It can be hard to not compulsively grab things lol

If I had to sum up my experience with Mirror's Edge in one sentence, it would probably be similar to what you said.  However, I start to ramble and will not be able to stop after a sentence.

I almost got the Humble Bundle, but then I remembered I got a couple of them before and all of the games sit in my steam library untouched.

I didn't have any of those initial offerings in the Humble Bundle. I just checked though and it looks like several more games were added to the bundle after the fact that I didn't have, namely Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken and A Virus Named TOM...which means my long list isn't even complete lol.

I need to get Mirrors Edge. Also I just started Galaga Legions, I think I am on stage 4 now. Got RE also. Metal Slug XX is on PS+?

You should definitely get Mirror's Edge if you can find it. And yeah, Metal Slug XX was still on there last time I checked (a couple days ago). It's a PSP game.

Even with my inexpirience with Resident Evil, I still got The Darkside Chronicles just because it looked interesting. I enjoyed the game very much and the ending I got (I heard its the bad ending) made me tear up. If you like on-rail shooters, definitly give the game a look.

Like I said, I really liked The Umbrella Chronicles and I've wanted The Darkside Chronicles since it came out but could never find it cheap enough. If I ever get a PS Move I'll be glad to play it but it might be cheaper just to buy the Wii version of the game lol. I love a good on-rails shooter though Smile

Oh I love that SMTIV image! I can't wait to start playing it. Too busy with Etrian Odyssey at the moment.

Looks like Atlus has really been sucking up your time lately lol

That and World Series of Poker: Full House Pro with a friend of mine on XBLA. I'm not sure if I want to buy more gold with real money yet. To get all the achievements you have to spend at least $5 for more gold to get more chips and buy XP boosts (you can earn chips by winning but not gold). That's not too bad though. I may do it.

I played Medevil Resurrection on PSP about a month ago. I would venture to say it is not even worth a dollar...

Ico is great. I'm not sure I'd call it "art" like I might with Shadow of the Colossus though. It's really just a simple puzzle game with breathtaking environments and atmosphere.

I played Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2 and really liked it. I heard it's coming to PS+ this month, so I'm excited to have it in HD Smile

I'm still playing SMTIV too.  I'm about 45hrs in also and almost to the end of the strategy guide.  I barely use it.  I looked through it the other day because I was lost and noticed I was closer than I thought to the end.

daftman

10/03/2013 at 07:57 PM

Yeah, I mostly used it if I couldn't find where to go but not for battles. Figuring out the bosses' weaknesses is half the fun Smile

Man... that's a lot of new games. You must have quite the backlog. I'd like to play Mark of the Ninja, but I don't think my PC can handle it. DId you try MediEvil II yet? I played the first one a lot way back in the day. I really liked all of the humor. That opening cutscene was hilarious.

daftman

10/03/2013 at 08:44 PM

My backlog is indeed pretty huge, as my backloggery page will attest. I haven't tried MediEvil II yet but it looks like it must be pretty silly.

mothman

10/04/2013 at 12:15 PM

You need the first MediEvil and yes both games are extremely silly. What do you expect from a game developed by Brits? We are by nature silly people. :D

I'm making my way through SMT 4 slowly but surely. I refuse to go into easy mode so if I die or the battle is not going well I restart and try again. I am only at the quest that has you cleaning up the 7 corpses. I backed out of it yesterday after an ambush killed everyone in my party except me and I only had 85 HP left. I managed to escape, restock and run for the exit so I wouldn't lose all the experience.

Just fused Black Frost which is something I have to do in every SMT game that has him.

daftman

10/04/2013 at 08:03 PM

I try to keep demons in my party that still have abilities left to learn but I haven't spent a ton of time fusing them. It's always painful fusing two that have all their ability slots full. You gotta lose half of them...

Nice grab on homefront. Still debating on that game given it has an online pass type battle code. But the game at least gives you a level up to try out the multiplayer. I might cave and get that if the time is rightr.

daftman

10/06/2013 at 11:02 PM

I didn't know it had an online pass but I probably won't touch the multiplayer anyway. Hard to argue when it costs less than $4 lol

NSonic79

10/06/2013 at 11:32 PM

yep, that's about the price it's worth for a game that has ONline Pass. Just might grab this up too if the opportunity arises. Oh how the might have fallen...
