It’s that time of year again. All the holiday game releases start bunching up, so I have to eat a can of spinach, transform into Super Cary, and start reviewing games like a madman. So you may see these game review list blogs more often for the next couple of months. As always, please click on and read as many reviews as you can and post comments on them, too. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.
Ghostly Halloween Fun
But first, in honor of Halloween coming up, I posted some pics of my new Pac-Man Halloween yard decoration, some Pac-Man costumes, and wrote a bit about the return of Monster Cereals.
Scribblenauts Unmasked (Wii U)
The reason why this blog has kind of a superhero motif is that I’ve been playing a lot of Scribblenauts Unmasked and The Wonderful 101 lately, both of which are superhero games. I’m not going to review Wonderful 101, as I got the game for my birthday and I’m just playing it for fun (when I can). But I am reviewing Unmasked. I’ve been able to review every single game in the Scribblenauts series, so it’s kind of a feather in my game reviewing cap. Unmasked is a lot like last year’s Unlimited, except here you travel to locations found in the DC universe, and can summon heroes, villains, and objects from DC Comic’s vast library. It’s a fun game, but I can’t help but think I’d enjoy it ten times more if I knew more about comic books. Never really got into them myself. So I’d like for you all to pick out a favorite DC Comics character for me. I kind of like Power Girl, but I don’t really know why, other than the fact that her name is easy to remember. So let me know in the comments section, and tell me some DC characters to try out in the new Scribblenauts Unmasked, and I’ll see if they work!
Dragon Fantasy Book II (PS3)
This downloadable game pays homage to classic 16-bit RPGs like FF6, Chrono Trigger, Lufia 2, and Earthbound. So it’s right up my alley. It’s doesn’t quite live up to the classics that it’s trying to imitate, but it’s still pretty fun if you like those kinds of games. Make sure to read the review if you’d like to learn more.
Zumba Dance (iPad)
Believe it or not, I’m actually really into fitness stuff. I wake up early nearly every morning and go work out and lift weights at a gym near my house. I’ve done that for a really long time, too. Back when I was in college, I only weighed about 120 pounds. When I graduated, I decided I was tired of being so puny so that’s when I started working out. It’s taken a very long time, but now I weigh nearly 200 pounds (not fat either) and even though I’m not super buff or anything, I certainly look a lot different than I did back then. So I like to review fitness games, although I’m a bit too klutzy for Zumba stuff. The iPad game tries to be like the Kinect version, and while it doesn’t work quite as well, I still say it’s better and cheaper than having to buy a Kinect and the game to play it on. One time at E3 I got to meet some Zumba celebrity instructors, and that was really cool. They were very nice (and pretty, too).
Grand Theft Auto V Limited Edition Strategy Guide (Book)
Well you won’t see me review GTAV, but I did get to review the strategy guide! The Limited Edition version is really nice, too, with a hard cover and everything!
Quingo (iPad)
This is an interesting idea. It’s like a mix of trivia and bingo, but before you start playing, you pick a charity to play for, and your score goes to that charity. Whichever charity gets the highest score worldwide gets the money. The money comes from ads and in-game purchases; the regular game itself is free. If you have an iPad, you might as well go ahead and download it. It’s pretty fun for what it is, and you’ll be doing a good deed, too!
Reader Review: Volgarr the Viking (PC)
I had my friend review this one, as he’s more of a PC and Steam gamer than I am. This one plays a lot like classic late 80’s arcade platformers like Rastan. My friend really liked it, too. He’s got a couple of other reviews lined up that I’ll be posting later on, so keep your eyes out for those, too.
T.E.C. 3001 (iPad)
The last three games I reviewed are futuristic themed racers. In this one you control a running robot man as he races through TRON-like virtual worlds. It’s all right, but kind of hard.
Orborun (iPad)
This one is similar to the previous one, except the robot here can roll up into a ball and looks suspiciously like the ‘bots in the co-op portion of Portal 2.
AiRace Speed (3DS)
I’m not sure if it’s pronounced “Ai Race” or “Air Race.” In this one you race futuristic jets through corridors and tubes. So yeah, not much to it there.
Choose My Next Blog!
And that’s all for now! I hope you all get to read as many reviews as you can and post comments, too. I’d appreciate it. My next blog will be Zelda related, but I actually have two topics planned. I wanted to cover one topic next time, since Wind Waker HD just came out. And when the 3DS Link Between Worlds comes out in November, I’ll cover the other topic. But YOU get to choose which one you’d like for me to blog about first. Do you want to hear which Zelda games I think should be re-made first? Or do you want to read about my top five favorite Zelda characters first? Let me know in the comments section! Later! --Cary
