The Stuff Update Thing

Hey y'all. I've been meaning to post a blog for some time, I just never could find the time to. A lot of my time is taken up by school, school work, and gaming. I've only really just been checking around and commenting. So a lot has happened in the month since school has started. I'm gonna go ahead and steal rangergirl's format, because it's easy, and I hate work!

Gaming:

I had a $20 Steam card lying around, so with it I bought Borderlands 2 and the entire Half-Life series. Both of them were on sale for about $10, and the cool thing is that they both drained my steam account to exactly $0.00, which almost never happens when buing things digitally because you end up with, like 6 cents left, and you start to develop ocd- like tendencies and google, "what can I buy on Steam with 6 cents" and end up dissapointed that you cant buy jack sh*t with 6 cents. So I got those games. I'm about 1/3 of the way through Half-Life 1 and I think I might have dug myself into a hole and now I can't progress in the game. This happens a lot in shooters. I get so scared of enemies, that instead of fighting them, I end up running away from and skipping them instead, and end up breaking the game. I'll be starting that over again sometime. I don't really like Half-Life as much as I like Half-Life 2. The original Half-Life just feels a bit clunky, whereas 2 feels more polished. They're both great games though. The use of physics in 2 is phenomenal. I'm at chapter 6, right after you get the gravity gun. It's a ton of fun to use. I'm only an hour into Borderlands 2, but it's a ton of fun. I probably won't be playing it much though until I get a better computer or laptop.

Listening:

I've commented on one blog about the lack of thrift stores near my place where I can buy albums from, but I've found an awesome solution to that: the library. My local library has a TON of albums all for free. among them that I checked out:

1. Yeezus - Kanye West

2. Thriller - Michael Jackson

3. Rubber Soul - The Beatles

4. St. Elsewhere - Gnarles Barkley

5. The White album - The Beatles

6. Star Trek (2009) soundtrack

7. Purple Rain - Prince

8. The Beginning - The Black Eyed Peas

9. 8 Mile - Eminem

10. Brothers - The Black Keys

11. Born Sinner - J. Cole

And I went back this weekend to get even more music. One of my favorite things to do is listen to lots of different types of music, so this was a blessing.

Watching:

This past month I've started watching Parks and Recreation. I'm currently part way through season 5, and so far I'm absolutely in love with it. The first season is a bit meh, even though I only realized that after reflecting on it, and that's mainly because of the lack of development of many of the characters. It's still a fun season to watch though. Later seasons give a bit more personality to the characters Which is awesome. I personally love Tom Haverford and Ron Swanson., two awesome characters. Once I finish this on Netflix I'm gonna watch 30 Rock.

I've also been watching The Legend of Korra weekly since the second season has started. It was originally intended to be 1 standalone season, but this new season has done a fantastic job extending the Avatar universe.

My dad and I were also able to fit all of Breaking Bad into the last month, which is a feat I will probably never be able to replicate because of the sheer depth of the show. The show is... hefty. That's kind of a stupid way to describe it, but that's the best I could think of. I personally found the ending to be satisfying, and a fitting end. I can't wait for Better Call Saul!

School:

This year I decided to get off my lazy butt and do something, so I decided to try out for the school play. I only made a small part as an extra, but all the important parts were given to those with more experience that were in higher grades so if I stick with this for a while I might be good enough to get a bigger part maybe in the musical that's in the winter/spring.

I've also decided to try out for the guys acapella group in our school. I thought my audition was utterly horrible, but when I was talking to my chorale teacher, he said that mine was better than a lot of the others and that I have 3 more years to improve so if I don't make it this year, I'm almost guarenteed to make it in the coming years. Go figure.

Other:

A few weeks ago I bought an acoustic guitar. This has been something that I've been wanting to do for quite a while, and now I'm so happy to have it. I practice almost daily, and every day I look up some new chord or technique on youtube. Eventually, if I get good enough I can get a teacher.

So that's all that I've been up to. Eventually I'm gonna get Kingdom Hearts 1.5 hd REmix (stupid name). Till next time, folks!

I definitely get the OCD mentality with virtual money too. I have like 60 Microsoft Points left and all I can buy is like a useless wallpaper. So glad they are getting rid of those, but I doubt I'll even get an Xbox One anyway.

I actually liked HL1 better than 2 for the same reasons you like 2 better! I liked the rugged, old-school feel of the first game. The second game was really polished but it didn't have the boss fights and wonky platforming that I loved in the first game. I even enjoyed that final area in the game that so many people hate!

I just sold a bunch of steam trading cards and now I have, like, $2 that I can't get anything with lol. The first HL was more experimental I think, with valve testing out all these new gameplay ideas. Some worked and stuck, whereas others didn't like the platforming.

Oh the loose change...you seem to hang out in my PSN, iTunes, and Android accounts. I like to think of it as the little drug that brings people to buy something else to zero out their accounts.

I think you mentioned the lack of thrift stores in my blog, but your library has some good stuff. My library isn't as varied, which sucks but hey what can you do. Take full advantage of listening to different stuff, because there's a ton of good music that needs to be appreciated!

Keep working at getting involved in school stuff, and especially the music!

Man, sometimes I don't know if loose change is good or bad! And I'm listening to all sorts of new bands and varieties I haven't listened to much of and I thought I wouldn't like.

I really want to play Borderlands 2. I did a complete achievement run of the first game. I still have the last bit of DLC to do before I dig in to the second game.

Yep, Borderlands 2 looks almost better than 1. Lots of improvements to the formula, like lots and lots of loot. Also, it's a ton of fun to play with others if you have some friends who have it.

Guitar is a lot of fun! To be honest, I was partially inspired by you making music. I always wanted to get up and learn an instrument, but seeing you and other people online make cool music made me think, "hey, I can do that too!". Thank you!

aw, thanks.  I'm glad.  making music is a big part of my life, and if you fall in love with it, you'll stay in love with it forever.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Thanks, Sidd, lol.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a guitar, too. Might help my pacing when it comes to singing. Love your scattergun approach to music, too, by the way.

I don't have much experience with singing and playing at the same time, but I could see how it could help. I know you like some folk music, so I'm thinking of getting some folk CDs from the library. Any suggestions?

Hmm...depends on what you like. Folk is a pretty broad genre. Check and see if they have the Green Linnet Anniversary collections. They're compilations and will give you a pretty broad pool of various artists to listen to. Richard Thompson is good. I'm partial to The Battlefield Band. The Utah Phillips tribute CD "Singing Through the Hard Times" is really good, it was up for a Grammy a few years ago for best folk album of the year. Joan Baez's older albums are good. That should get you started.

I'm hopping to start watching the second season of Legend of Korra soon. I loved the first season and from what i've heard on the internet, it's getting a lot of good comments.

Well the second season is almost over so I guess it will be available online  in good quality soon. It's been a fantastic season so far, and last weeks episodes abourt the origin of the first avatar were phenomenal. There were so many subtle nods to those who watched The Last Airbender. The story also feels right, and it feels like the natural progression of the show.

Why did you have to waste your money on that accursed Half-Life series. Never again shall I wait for a game from that series. Much I waiting faithfully for Half-Life on Dreamcast, I doubt I'll ever see Half-Life 3...neve again valve, never again.
