I don't know why, but I'm in a good mood today. It could be that my room smells of freshly ground coffee. It could be that I had lunch with Bilby. Or it could be that I've thought of a way to weaponise infants by giving lactating women energy drinks. Either way, I'm happy, and I thought I'd share with you some awesomely happy tunes of awesome!
How is Your Life Today? - Porcupine Tree
If you don't think this song is happy, wait until you get to the La la la la's. Depending on your mood, this song can be happy, depressing, or eerie... and all are perfectly valid arguments. Either way, this song makes me happy, so it's here.
If I Only Had a Brain - The Flaming Lips
Stubbs The Fucking Zombie. That should be enough reason for this song to be awesome, in fact the whole soundtrack just oozes with awesome, as it is fifties songs covered by modern rock bands, but this song in particular is just so happy and bright!
CCKK - Vampire Weekend
Well, every Vampire Weekend song is happy, so take your pick. IMO this is pop music done right. It's catchy as balls, and it's experimental. It mixes indie pop with world music, electronica, and classical. It uses african percussion, xylophones, stringed instruments, and everything else they can get their hands on, and the result is glorious. Love these guys.
Sugar - System of a Down
Shut up, metal can be happy! Sugar by system is whimsical as balls. Take the distortion of and this is essentially a swing song, and a damn catchy one at that. It has a dark sense of humour that I just love. Also... HOW THE FUCK IS SOAD NU METAL?
I Like Giants - Kimya Dawson
Kimya Dawson has one purpose: To make soul crushingly depressing songs sound chirpy. This song is pretty motivational and happy, but some of her songs are about attempted suicide, self hatred, miscarriages, and other things that shouldn't be in happy sounding songs, but it's kinda awesome that they are. Also, she sounds like a 12 year old white girl, even though she's like 40 and black.
A Tapdancers Dillemma - Diablo Swing Orchestra
Because Diablo Swing Orchestra are the best band. Ever. Seriously.

10 seconds into Diablo Swing Orchestra and it's already the greatest thing I've ever heard. Seriously, now I'm gonna go listen to everything they ever made.
The Kimya Dawson song was... Interesting to say the least. The lyrics don't make any sense when compared to the music, which makes it awesome. That's another artist I'll look at more of.
I judge metal by two factors: how head-bangy it is, and how much it makes me laugh and I have a horrible twisted sense of humor. This one made me do both in generous amounts. Thanks you good sir, for having an excellent taste in music.

weaponizing infants, eh? Why didn't I think of that? We could air drop them on Russia.

Yeah lol. Well my thought was if we give lactating women energy drinks, and babies drank from them, their hearts would explode. In my mind though, they lieterally explode. So we have child suicide bombers!

Goddamit Blake, why do you always make awesome music posts?
Anyway, I really like Sugar. It's so twisted and funny, sometimes just like the band. Also, nice to hear some DSO again.
For me, a happy song list wouldn't be complete without this:
