Halloween, Digital Hoarding, X-Men, And Games I'm Playing

Hello Pixbit! So it’s Tuesday, almost time for Halloween, and I thought I’d do a special Quick Hits for the beginning of the week because I have some thoughts about Halloween, and little tidbits about gaming.

Chris’ Rules For Halloween

  1. -Blackface is never a good idea
  2. -If a little kid shows up at your door, compliment their costume, even if it’s 30th version of Iron Man you’ve seen
  3. -Buy candy you like…and do “quality control” (aka eat) tests on random pieces.

    1. Instagram picture from last year. I was making sure the candy was safe...and tasty
  4. -If teens show up at your door, one piece of candy, and make sure they see it. They get an allowance now, they can buy their own candy
  5. -If a mom with baby shows up and she wants candy for the kid who has no teeth, one piece and make sure they see it
  6. -One kid told me the Cowboys sucked while I was wearing my jersey, I gave his friend two handfuls of candy while he got one piece and saw the whole thing.
  7. -Neighbor’s kids show up, regardless of age, hook them up with a lot of candy
  8. -If you run out of candy, or don’t participate, turn off the porch light.
  9. -A couple of days after Halloween, Target puts the leftover candy at 50-70% off
  10. -Did I mention Quality Control of the candy?

Things I miss from Halloween

  1. Homemade items: I grew up in a rural town where there wasn’t a lot of money. During Halloween the majority of houses had candy, but a few didn’t but they were in the spirit anyways. I would get popcorn balls, Walnuts, and one house gave out Pomegranates ( I had no idea what they were, but 8-10 year old Chris was excited to get it
  2. School Parade & Carnival: This was fun because the teachers, students, and other employees at the school would dress up, and do a little parade around playground, and then at night the classrooms would have little booths where candy was given away, you bought tickets to play games and win little trinkets.
  3. Trick-Or-Treating With Friends: I remember when I was 10 or 11, my parents let me and my friends go by ourselves (way before crazy folks started ruining this for kids). My friends didn’t want their pomegranates and walnuts so I had extra stuff. Again for my age, this was like GOLD.
  4. Candy Trading: Best part of the night, was getting rid of the candy you didn’t want and getting something good. I wasn’t a fan of getting gum so that was a big trade item for me.
  5. A later tradition I kind of started in my dorm. When I worked in the dorms, during Halloween, and Valentine’s Day I would leave candy in my residents mailboxes. For Valentine’s Day I would buy those cards elementary school kids give (Crocodile Hunter cards were hilarious “Crikey be my Valentine”). Soon the other staff members started doing the same.

New X-Men Trailer

My one gripe is why didn’t Professor X send Wolverine back a little further to tell young X to try and prevent him from getting shot.

Digital Hoarding

I think I’ve become a Digital Game Hoarder. I have a bunch of games on iOS/Android/and PSN that I’ve downloaded because they’re free…and I have yet to play them.

While looking through my iPad yesterday I forgot that I bought this game (most likely it was during a .99 cent sale) and I haven’t tried it until now. When I read some info on it, the game’s timeline takes place between the first and second games. Since I haven’t ventured far into the second game, I’m going to put that on hold and try to play this game through, so I can continue the story.

Going back to the original topic, I’m going to try and play more of the Android/iOS games I have and try to not buy anymore until I take a couple of them down from Mount Backlog. I passed on the recent Humble Bundle sale that offered a bunch of Android games because of this.

What I’m Playing

Fairway Solitaire

I’m still playing this, and I’m surprised that there are ads for in game purchases, especially considering I already spent $3.00 on the HD version and a $1.00 on the iPhone version. This is still one of those casual games I’ll play before I call it a night.

Real Racing

It’s been awhile since I’ve played this, and when I started it up again, there was an upgrade and now it seems to be easier to upgrade your car and racing level. I’m actually happy that I lost my game save because I don’t have to repeat races to earn cash. There is also a minor change in gameplay in having assistants for every race and each of them has a purpose. One person makes sure you get double the experience, another doubles your prize winnings, and the third person maintains your car. They are all really useful except they require one gold coin per race, and those coins are hard to come by, so I’ll use them sparingly.

NFL Runner

Well I found another code, and I am one code away from completing the McDonalds freebies. The game is still ok, and I probably play this game once every other day.

Marvel Puzzle Quest

Another game that updated when I didn’t play it for a couple of days. It’s a lot easier to earn items to upgrade your characters now, and over the past couple of days I’ve started playing it more and more.

I really haven’t been upgrading the characters regularly but they’ve been solid during battles. I would like to earn more coins so I can go after Captain America, but I do like having a bunch of those purple crystals.

Lego Marvel Superheroes

I am five missions away from completing the Story Mode and I do like this game. The levels seem really long compared to the previous games but there are save points at different sections. The environments are really nice, and I can't wait to do some exploring around the town. I'll talk more about this game once I play through it.

SDSU Baseball

This is why I like college sports. One of the fun traditions is that the baseball team plays an inter-squad game in Halloween costumes. Its fun, open to the public, and everyone can enjoy themselves and not be too serious before the season begins.

Well its time for me to go and buy some candy, so we shall end today’s entry here.

That’s All For Now, More Later!

-Chris

Marvel Puzzle Quest is my go-to game at the moment when Im bored and need a quick fix. It's pretty good. It combines two of my fav things. 1) Marvel Comics 2)PuzzleQuest series, and on a portable, even better!

As for the X-Men trailer, it's a bit too soon to start complaining about plot points. I enjoy the film series and comics on two seperate levels, and I think the consensus about the X-Men films, according to comic book fans, is that they suck. I'm dissapointed to see they are taking a "darker" direction as that was one of my biggest issue with the films, swapping out the colorful costumes and characters with grey and black, sad tone, that's what Batman is for. Even batman had a colorful movie in "Forever" & "Batman & Robin". Hopefully the Sentinels won't dissapoint...hopefully...?

MPQ is a heck of a game. I do like the these puzzle quest games in general but having the Marvel name makes it much more interesting to me.

We disagree here, when trailers are released, it's fun to talk among friends what they think the film will be about. I had a conversation about this and we started talking about what we would do if we got sent back in time.

I haven't read an X-Men comic in years, but I do enjoy the movies because they are good ol' fashion summer popcorn movies. The studios may take liberties with the characters but it doesn't take away from the fun, plus many people might become fans and start reading the comics.

I'm with you about the Sentinals.

Ok. You can argue points about a movie with a trailer. I'm sure this will happen with Star Wars 7, and I will argue like hell, but with this new X-men movie, the source material is being distorted and already people are hating. Also, the director admitted sentinels aren't finished yet so they weren't added to the teaser. So, all I'm saying is wait for a proper trailer with more sentinel action and story before starting nerd wars is all I'm saying. Cool

It's all good man Laughing and I get what you're saying. I was just voicing my opinion on what I saw, and I think the trailer did it's job, and got people to talk about it. It got my friends and I to talk about "what-ifs", and it got us to have a discussion on a blog.

Rule 7.

I wouldn't have even given candy to a kid who made fun of my Chargers jersey, while proceeding to empty an entire bag worth of candy for his friend. I won't let a child make fun of my Boltz without tasting some vengeance. lol

LOL

I have to give the kid at least one piece, even if their taste in football teams are terrible...and he'll know for next time to talk trash about someone's football team after they get their candy.

I am a digital game hoarder too. We must unite and take over the industry!

Digital Hoarders UNITE!

Good to see someone else do this. On the positive for DH, there are no physical stacks of games to be ashamed of.

I never understood why blackface is bad but it's completely ok for black people to go whiteface.  Does that seem right to you? Laughing

It's been decades since I participated in Halloween.  Back in jr. high, I just turned out the porchlight and ate the candy my parents bought.  Who needs to go door to door?  My folks already had the good stuff I wanted. Laughing

I'm still playing Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS).  I think I'm on the last boss.  I started Lollipop Chainsaw (360) and I'm really enjoying it.

Ah yes the double standard...I'm with you but I say don't wear the black or white facepaint because at some point someone is going to get offeneded because they feel they have to be. Laughing

My version of Halloween is wearing a jersey, and handing out candy. I don't really put a lot of effort into it, but I appreciate the folks who can get really creative. I have to say your version of trick-o-treating is awesome. Just cut out the middle man, and have all the good candy.

You know I always see Lollipop Chainsaw, I always look at the back cover, but I never buy it. One day I might take the chance and add it to Mount Backlog

My wife & kids get into Halloween, but there is no trick-or-treating in our area, so they go to my wife's brother's house where they have trick-or-treating.  They're getting ready to go out right now, because there will be a storm tomorrow.  Many areas are moving trick-or-treating to tonight.

Lollipop Chainsaw is turning out to be a pretty decent game.  It has it's problems in spots, but it's worth the $20 I paid for it.

I had so much candy after one Halloween when I was a kid, I put it in my drawer and it lasted all year until the next Halloween.

Now that is a lot of candy. I'm hoping what ever candy is left over, and what I get on clearance will hold me over until around Christmas.

I was never a heavy candy eater. I could ration it out over a long time.

Can't get enough of X-men. Even liked "Last Stand" though many of its' liberties and inconsistancies pissed me off as a long time fan of the comics. Still hoping Joss Whedon gets to direct at least one X-men film. I think he'd do a fantastic job at it!

The only X-Men film I wasn't too excited over was First Class, only because I thought the actor who was Prof. X was annoying. I'm hoping in the new film my opinion will change.

Joss Whedon would be awesome!
