PC Games VS Console Games

Now I've got a click baiting title that will cause fanboys to send furious comments without reading the article, I'll tell you what this is really about: Games that start off great, and then get watered down to the point of stupidity.

Case in point: The F.E.A.R. games. F.E.A.R. is an amzing game. I played it for the first time and I loved it. The firefights on that game are intense, and the enemies a smart, making shooting as much about tactical forethought as it is about reflexes. The best thing is that the game has pacing. It has long moments between firefights so that these shooting galleries don't get boring. The game gets progressively creepy, working towards its horror rather than starting with it outright. The combat feels just right, and is glory to behold. The weapons are also awesome.

I liked fear so much that I bought the sequel. MISTAKE! This game just screams "We need to get the console kiddies to like us!" Well fuck you.  I knew I was in for a bad time when I was being lead around by my squad who never shut up, forcefeeding me dialogue and HAVING TO OPEN MY FUCKING DOORS FOR ME! This sequence went for 10 minutes, and I felt like I was playing a fucking call of duty game. Then i got out of that and was straight away hit by 3 shootouts in the space of 5 minutes. So much for pacing.

What's more is that the combat was now shit. Cover was no longer important, now was planning. Just spray and pray, and you nightmares will go away. The enemies die in one shot to the torso or leg now, as opposed to the number of shots they took to kill before which added to the tension. Oh, and they also just start with the horror straight away, and it's fucking laughable.

Seriously, fuck FEAR 2. Fuck all games like it. Fuck Hitman Absolution. Fuck the new thief when it comes out. Fuck Battlefield 3's campaign. Fuck your two weapon, regenerating health, crouch behind a fucking rock to heal shooters. Seriously. They can go burn in a hell and give me something that's actually fun to play.

Fear 2 sucked? I thought Fear 3 was lackluster as well. It wasn't "terrible" it just felt rushed and kind of linear despite the nice graphics.(You get to play as both point-man and Fettel. One has telekinesis and the ability to possess soldiers while the other has slow mo bullet time. However, the campaign doesn't change too much regardless who you choose.) I think you'd like Cry Of Fear though. That game WILL give you nightmares. I just wish COF was a dab easier. The difficulty is rather brutal. Guess my reflexes aren't what they used to be!

Original Fear was great. Did you get to Fear 3 by any chance?

I don't think consoles are specifically the problem, the real issue is a mix of greed and ignorance. All these games were compromised because their publishers wanted to make more money without understanding not everything can or should give CoD numbers. This comes from success, not consoles. Blaming console gamers does nothing but further the divide between PC and consoles which does absolutely nothing to help the industry. Blaming out of touch CEOs making decisons which hurt those series can get ones hurt by it back to their roots and prevent others from getting harmed.

I'm not blaming console gamers, nor am I blaming consoles in general. A lot can be done on a console, I mean look at Deus Ex Human Revolution, or The Witcher 2. The problem is what devs think a game on consoles should be, that if it's on a console it has to appeal to everyone who wons a console.
