Hello Pixlbit! It’s Friday, and I bet you folks are ready for the weekend! As a sports fan I’m excited because college football is in full swing, and college basketball is starting up. I like pro sports too, but nothing beats college athletics. Anyways since it’s Friday it’s another Quick Hits with Chris…so shall we get started?

Chris Goes To San Diego

Last week it was Homecoming Weekend and but I didn’t go because I was hanging out with family. Funny thing was, we spent time in San Diego.

We spent time at the outlet that is by the US/Mexico border. I always get a kick out of this area because of the giant Mexico flags in TJ (Tijuana). I found some cool stuff and usually the GameStop and Sony stores have some interesting stuff, but I didn’t buy anything from either store. It’s amazing how close these stores are to the border. The picture I took is of the Border Patrol which is a couple of yards away from one of the parking lot. Everytime I come here I always wonder if they hit this outlet when they need to use the bathroom or get something to eat.

I wanted to get a new shirt, but the campus store was long closed by the time we got back into SD, and the local stores in the mall didn’t have anything worth picking up. I did however add to the hat collection

I think I now own the old logo in every New Era colorway except white.

On the way home I spotted something new

Random Ducks ads at the Toll Roads. GO DUCKS!

Post Halloween Recap

Yesterday was Halloween and I got a couple of nice “Happy Halloween” messages from some good folks on my PS Friends List.

One of my costume ideas was to go as a Pizza Delivery Man (easy Tebow fans, it's a joke, and besides I actually bought his jersey...and besides if he did try and deliver a pizza, it would fall to the ground after 10 yards.Tongue Out)

The day before I went down to the local Target to pick up candy

This might taste good, but it sounds so wrong to me

I bought a ton of candy, and there isn’t anything with peanuts, or seeds (DAMN YOU ALLERGY! DAMN YOU!)

One bag I decided to try out and is probably the only candy corn I like. It’s super sweet, but tasty.

The big day came and I decided to not go Pizza Delivery Man, and went with a Troy Aikman jersey, and soon waited for a bunch of short people knocking on the door waiting for candy. Over the next three hours I got zero visitors. Yup zero. I went outside after hour three and looked around and apparently every other person on my street was dark. Oh well, I now have a ton of candy.

Thrift Store Finds

I hit a couple of thrift stores before I went candy shopping and I ran into 50% everything day. I went looking at where they usually have games, but there were no games to be seen. They had a couple of jerseys but they were too small, so I went to my usual favorite spot, the music section.

I found Dave Attell’s Skanks for the Memories and LL Cool J albums at a church run thrift store, mixed in with a bunch of religious CDs.

Here’s the reason why I bought the EVE 6 CD. This song was always playing on the radio when I worked the front desk in my dorm. 3am, when random’s were outside, this was always playing on the radio.

At another thrift store there was a box full of 45s, and of course I started to look through them. There was a bunch of cool stuff from the 80s, so there was a lot of me singing some of the songs as I put the ones I wanted in a pile. I think I already own We Are The World as a 12” single but I’m not really sure. I really need to make a new vinyl excel sheet.

Other Pickups

Some CDs I picked up during the week.

I bought a physical copy of Best Coast’s Fade Away while in Orange County. An older lady saw my CD during checkout, and said  “Oh Bethany has a new album? I love her music!” I now think she either knows them, or is a really cool lady. I also bought Aceyalone’s album Leanin’ On Slick during that checkout. Everything else was from Target. I was curious about former X-Factor singer’s Fifth Harmony’s EP. It wasn’t bad. I’d like to think I’m good with CDs for this week, but I’ve heard some mixed reviews about Stone Temple Pilot’s new EP with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington. I might check that out later on today.

And in game pickups, I hit a GameStop I rarely visit because it’s a sketchy neighborhood, but I found a couple of games. I also hit my favorite GameStop the night before the release of the new Assassins Creed. While I was there this was my convo while purchasing my games from an awesome employee (I left a ton of positive feedback because was cool)

GS Employee: Hey, looks like you have a lot of gaming to do

Me: Yup, gonna give these a try

GS E: You coming back tonight for Assassins Creed?

Me: No, I’m gonna wait

GS E: Are you sure? It’s gonna be good…Look at me I’m dressed like a pirate! *she’s dressed like a pirate

We both laugh, and I got my games. It's fun to be around people in good moods. The couple in front of my was pre-ordering the Assassins Creed and she told them that they could go see their movie because the GameStop would be swamped with people until around 12:30. No "you need to get here early", she knew they just wanted the game, and let them know a good time they can show up and be in and out in a couple of minutes. Again one of the best stores here. Here are the games

Bourne was used but I got a sealed copy. Smart as… was also used but the game was brand new. Perfect Dark Zero is still sealed, I got it for $14 from my cousin but apparently it’s a collector’s edition. I know it’s a bad game, but it was a launch title so I’m adding it to my library. Oh I finally found a complete Gears Of War 2! Other than Perfect Dark, and Smart as… every game was under $3 each.

Chris And His Bag Of Plastic Bottles

Well last week, I mentioned I had a ton of bottles so it was time to take them to the local recycler

Those are some of my bottles getting ready to be weighed. I think in total I had 12 trashcans full of plastic bottles and two trashcans filled with cans. Five months of stuff just chilling in the back yard, and I made

And I got a free bottle of water at the cashier trailer. I was going to celebrate with a pizza, but the McRib is back McDonalds got a taste of my new fortune.

Well Pixlbit, Friday is the start of my weekend, and I have a stack of 360 games to play, so…

Well that’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

EDIT: I tried to log into Pixlbit through Firefox but it won't let me. Anyone else having this problem? It works fine on Chrome, but Firefox seems to not like me now.

Holy crap, that's a lot of bottles! Here in Maine, we get five cents a piece for returnables. Actually, we get our five cents a piece back, as we have to pay bottle deposit.

Which 45s did you end up with besides We Are the World? I couldn't read the titles Frown, getting old and needing bifocals, I think.

I think California has a five cent redemption value, but the recyclers also have their "going rate" for various recyclables.

Here are the 45s

Scanday feat. Patty Smyth - The Warrior

Wham - Careless Whisper

Guns N' Roses - Patience

Thomson Twins - Hold Me Now

Various - We Are The World

Ray Charles - Sweet Young Thing Like You

Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - Head To Toe

Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - All Cried Out

The Jets - Private Number

Bangles - Walking Down Your Street

Oran "Juice" Jones - The Rain

Kylie Minogue - The Locomotion

Haha, yeah it's a ton of bottles but I think I started this pile around the beginning of summer.

Looks like the both of us will have a ton of candy. I think I'm gonna try and give some away at every chance I get.

When I lived in New York, you could turn in bottles for cash, but not that much cash!

I was the odd guy at the Recycle Center. Some folks who came in later had one or two small garbage bags, and then here I come with a truckbed full of bags.
