Some Questions

Hello, Everybody.

So today I'm come bearing questions today. You see, before 1UP was going to close, I was in the planing stages of writing a blog series over one of my favorite fighting game series Darkstalkers. It was to coincide with the re-release of Darkstalkers 2 and 3 in Darkstalkers Resurection coming out on March 12. So with 1UP slowly closing now, I figured I would put on here starting next week but before I do that I do have some questions I wanted to ask the staff here on PixlBit so that I know what's what around here.

First, PixlBit doesn't have a policy concerning blog series do it? That sounds a bit silly to ask but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going around some rule that was made about things like this?

Secondly, I know Jessie has done an MIA on Darkstalkers before so is it OK that I'm doing one as well?

Also, I plan to post some images from Darkstalkers series, some of which can me a bit...different to put it nicely. So, does PixlBit have a policy towards NSFW images or a way to hide them? I doubt what I'll use will really be offensive but I'm sure it will differentiate for different people, especially when I get to Darkstalkers 3.

The last thing I have isn't really a question as more asking for advice. For anyone who has done a blog series before how do you stay focus and just keep writing. I'm kind of having trouble just sitting down a focusing on writing right now. I have all my information I need, but I every time I try to write I either forget or get to nervous and don't.

I hope this all of this made sense. Please feel free to ask any questions if you have them and thanks for reading.

I can't help you with most of your questions, I'll leave that part to the staff. I can help you with how to stay focused. Make an outline or note cards. Note cards work really well, because you can put all the bits of info on different cards, one idea or topic per card, and then sort them however you think will work best. You can also have them right in front of you so you stay on topic while you're writing. The idea and information is there, you just need to write it up in paragraph form and link it to the other ideas and information.

Hope this helps.

I've never heard of a using note cards. I'll definately try that. Thank you.

Note cards have been the easiest way for me, personally, if I'm trying to stay on topic and not get distracted. It wasn't until I got to college and was working in the Learning Resource Center as a tutor that I learned about using note cards. Before that, I used to try using outlines, but that really never worked for me. Good luck and glad I could help.

Speaking as someone who does not work for Pixlbit (take my words with salt), I know there are no rules against blog series or we'd all be screwed, I don't think anyone'd mind a user doing MIA, and I have no clue about NSFW.

Personally, I think there's tons of NSFW clips you could have posted I'd be fine with (nice Simpsons clip by the way), but in that case, probably best to talk to a site official about ground rules.

As for blog writing, I usually feel that lists or outlines help me write, not like essay style Roman numerals lists, but just numbering what I want to talk about or something. That, and just writing SOMETHING for a blog every day, helps me, personally.

That's one of the reasons why I did BaD on 1UP because I needed to practice how to write everyday about something. I'll definately try an outline too. Thanks

as far as writing goes, it helps to develop it into a habit.  I'm addicted to blogging, and I do it now without thinking about it or considering the consequences. that said, I haven't written fiction for a couple months because of writer's block, so I know what u mean.  I think the key is to just say "To Hell With It!"  and just write, and don't worry if it's perfect or not.

I don't think there's any problems with blog series on this site. If there is, that would suck.  I don't think there's rules like that.

As far as the NSFW images, I don't know what the policy is.  I think we have a lot of freedom here, but I can understand people not wanting to be "confronted" with scandalous images.  I don't know about that one.

That's why I started in BaD because I needed the practice at writing. Thanks for the advice Snee.

There are absolutely no rules against blog series or writing about the same or similar topics that the staff writes about.  In fact, we would love to hear different voices on the same subjects when you have too many thoughts to fit in a comment on something we've written.  If you want to write your own MIA-type article, go for it.

As far as NSFW images, we have no formal policy in place yet.  For the time being, just use your best judgement and if something is questionable, at least tag it as such for readers who might not want to see a lady's ungloved hand.  I think you probably know where the line should be between what can be posted, posted and tagged, and not posted at all.  Use your good judgement until we have a real policy to direct you to.

As NSFW goes with what I have plan its things like this and this which has me a little worried. Beyond that I'm not going beyond offical artwork. I just wanted some offical clairfication before I started posting. Thank you Travis.

As the helmer of the MIA series, I can assure you that I don't have any issues with you doing something similar with Darkstalkers here.  Just make sure you put your own spin on it instead of aping what has already been done (I highly doubt you're planning to).

Concerning NSFW, just make sure you clearly mark such entries as such.  We're pretty liberal around here, but it should go without saying that we don't want to play host to blatently hostile material (specifically hate speach and pornographic material).  I doubt anything you would post anything that would fit into that category, so as Travis said above, use your judgement.  If you think some people may take some offense to, just warn them with the NSFW moniker.

I look forward to reading whatever you produce!

Thanks Jessie, I just wanted to ask before I started posting any images and any blogs. You can see Travis' post on the type of images I wanted to get some clairtiy on but I will definately use my best judgement. Thanks again!

I've done a few blog series. I just keep up with them as long as I can. If I get tired of the series, I just stop writing it. :)

That's kind of my problem. I've started so many but never finish them. This one I kind of do want to finish. Even if I don't finish by the time Darkstalkers Resurrection comes out, I just want to finish it.
